I think the biggest issue with McDaniel is some of the boneheaded play calling and some 4th down decisions he's made. It seems that the players adore him though, for example Wilkins said this was the most fun season he's had in his career.
I remember feeling a bit sad when Campbell didn't get the job as HC after being interim when Philbin got fired. You're spot on about the comparison with Bill Cowher.
McDaniel and Campbell are definitely two different animals. I can picture McDaniel driving a Lamborghini and Campbell riding a Harley.

The Titans game is a textbook example of the gameplan falling apart because the players were having "too much fun" with their cringeworthy endzone celebrations. Hopefully McD reins that nonsense in a bit going forward. We didn't see it in the Dallas game but, that was because we were settling for field goals.
I love to see players excited and having fun....but they also need motivation. Campbell has been busting it season after season and might finally get his due. I don't see the lions flaming out because he won't let them.
Great points on that Monday night Titans game. I was physically affected by that loss. I could see it happening and the Coaches did nothing. We have world class talent but they need to be lead. I hope someone is sitting down with McDaniels explaining why this needs to change.

Treasure. McDaniel said everything is on the table when asked about his giving up play calling. In a way I hope he doesn't, but if he does, I hope he and his OC have a close relationship. I'm sure McDaniel will have his imprint on the play calling.
Who is supposed to call plays. Is Frank Smith a play calling genius now? Its amazing how some of these idiots calling themselves reporters today just say things w/ no knowledge of personal.
"McDaniel should give up play calling", yeah.
Some of McDaniel's play calling was brilliant. Most was pretty good. I think we were the number #1 rated offense in 2023. I do not want to see play calling in Smith's hands, maybe Studsville. Do we still have Brevell? He would be my first choice (After McDaniel).
Wes Welker might be my second.
But this is McDaniel's offense he should call the plays not sure any of the assistants have mastered it yet. If one has then I can see McDaniel relinquishing play calling.
Well Dan Campbell just screwed up royally going for it on 4th down against the 49ers instead of kicking a field goal to tie. Horrible coaching decision.
That's just like some of the bone-headed plays that McD called during the season. I think that inexperienced Head coaches get reckless sometimes because they think that the Gods are on their side when the truth is that the Gods are fans of soccer and couldn't care less about any other sports.

I watched the game off and on last night but didn't he do that TWICE? Once in the first half and once towards the end.
The commentators were saying he'd been doing that all year, successfully. So he danced with the strategy that brought him to the dance.
I felt horrible for the DB who had that bomb bounce off his face as he was falling backwards into the hands of the SF receiver. Sucks to be him.
