Interesting quote from the late Bob Kuechenberg......

Here's an interesting quote from the late Bob Kuechenberg.

"THE NFL MUST BE A LOT ROUGHER THAN IT WAS BACK IN MY DAY. PLAYERS GET INJURED MUCH MORE. AND THEY STAY INJURED MUCH LONGER. AND THEY DON'T EVEN WORK SECOND JOBS."

OH man he was one of my favorites. Tough son of a gun. played a super bowl with a broken arm, had a damn steel rod shoved into his forearm where the bone marrow normally is...wrapped it up and took the field. During the game the rod would work its way out of the end of his wrist and he'd push it back into the bone of his arm. Proceeded to absolutely manhandle Alan Page of the Vikings (who was probably the most feared DL of that time). Page was so frustrated that Kooch was kicking his ass that he got himself ejected from the game towards the end.

They don't make 'em like that anymore.

"They don't make 'em like that anymore." That is a fact. Kooch was an amazingly tough guy. I remember that broken arm bit and asked a surgeon how the heck could he play like that, and the surgeon simply shrugged. Kooch was one of the two best guards the Dolphins ever had on the field. Should be in the HOF.

Well don't leave me hanging, Colonel! Who is the OTHER of the best two guards from the Dolphins?

I loved Larry Little. He would pull on a pitchout or sweep play and run just as fast as Mercury Morris and flatten a DE along the way. The NFL is full of (very) big guys who are also very quick, but Little was the first one like that I noticed as a kid.

Richmond Webb? He protected Dan like nobody else I've ever seen.

Bob was a badass though. For sure.

GO DOLPHINS!!!!

I couldn't remember offhand whether Richmond Webb played guard or tackle, but yeah he was amazing of course.

JC--#66 and #67. The best tandem guards the Dolphins ever had. Hopefully, someday, the team will have another pair that are just as mobile, tough and dependable. smileys with beer
