Are the idiot owners trying to destroy their own game? By changing this rule, they have marginalized the defenses! Championship teams are supposed to have championship offenses AND championship defenses. So, if team in the playoffs loses the toss, they have to play defense and stop the opponent's offense. If that team scores a touchdown, this rule change makes it OK that your defense FAILED. You will get another chance! Shouldn't be that way. If your defense fails in a championship game, YOU LOSE! That's the way it should be. The noise generated this offseason is just bitching from the playoff's losing teams, and the idiot owners bought into it. Makes the offenses more important than the defenses, so changes to the teams' draft strategies is inevitable. Defenses will take a back seat to the offenses, and that is NOT as it should be. I strongly suspect that they will regret this foolish move.

Just my personal feeling, level the playing field in OT, let each team's offense and each team's defense play football. It's a team sport. Don't allow a team's defense to lose the game and not give that team's offense a chance to at least salvage the game.

Overtime in football is foolish, just because the nature of the game.

MY PROPOSAL:

Since home field advantage ought to be worth something. I propose that if the game is tied at the end of regulation the visiting team is awarded a point and wins.

In other words the home team would not kick a field goal to tie the game at the end, they would be forced to break the tie. If the home team is up by a point at the end of the game you keep that result. Point is only awarded if there is a tie.

This would result in the games being finished on the field, and make a team try to actually win the games instead of playing for overtime.
