Lets say we did trade out of 18 for 29 and a first and second rounder next If we filled in a lot of holes OL, Edge , Rb , etc and took a flier on say Gordon in round 5 we could get another year look at Rosen and Gordon. If they did not work out then we would have 3 first rounders next year and we would have the ammo to trade up to get Trevor Lawrence.

Absolutely we need to get this one right. This draft is crucial.
I know hitting on a draft pick is around 60% for the first three rounds. So that means that 2 of our 3 first rounders (and the same for our next two rounds) should turn into long term starters.
Long term starters have been found throughout the draft and even into undrafted free agents. So I say busy your ass and do the work, I want EVERY draft pick we have to becomes long term players!!!!!
Its not like we are flush with outstanding NFL talent. I can say our players have the most heart and give great effort. Now lets find those players with more skill and we will be good to go.
The biggest issue this team had was keeping players . Players that went to other teams turning into superstars ...Minkah Fitzpatrick comes to mind.
The greatest thing I saw last season was how these players reacted to Flores. Creating a positive environment here is a huge step in this team getting great players again.

Really? Who said that? Sour grapes maybe? I get that with Gase ....but Flores had this team motivated. Pretty sure special teams even helped selling hotdogs and came in early to help the grounds keepers!
I can definitely see ex-Phins from the Gase/Philbin era saying the org was toxic. But, I haven't seen evidence of toxicity under Flores.
Minkah, in my opinion, is a complete fraud. Billed as a team-first, do whatever needs to be done guy...turned out to be a me-first, do what puts me in position to get paid guy. I thought it was epic that his mommy chimed in on social media - classic millennial move! Even better was reading that he was so happy that Tomlin put him in one position vs. swiss army knife...only to have Fitz come out last month saying next year he wants to be the swiss army knife in PIT. So awesome! I want what I want, including the right to flip-flop at any time I want...no consequences.
I'm not saying throw talent out the window when building a team - not by any means. But, I want talented team-first guys vs. just started my 2nd year prima donas.

Excellent excellent point. Unfortunately it's hard to know who exactly these type of players are before the draft. They all tell you want you want to hear.College coaches also want their players drafted so they tell you what you want to hear. The real quality players dont show up until the going gets rough. Last season was a good example.

How so Ken? We might not have a "Franchise back or someone to put in the ROH" but the way Fitz played last season its a future need. And Rosen is still unproven. Its not the long time solution , but I wouldnt say that QB is our greatest area of need. Now OL......YES. No one can be successful period if we dont get some run and pass protection. DT YES. We need to shut down the run. Using a Top 5 on a OL is not smart in our position. Hence the trade down. Or pick a QB if they are sure about it. We have the capital. F It. But QB is not our greatest area of need. RB is more of a need then QB at this point.

RE: Howard makes RB, not a must draft position this season...I still think we will add one and I’d love to see Thomas, but it isn’t imperative at the moment.
At QB you are correct in saying Rosen is unproven, and that means its dangerous to rely on him. Fitz simply isn’t good enough and never has been...should be replaced ASAP, and those two things alone mean we need to draft a can’t miss type guy this season provided we can get one. If Burrows, Tua or Herbert are gone, I would not take a QB at 5 assuming we stay there. (Unless the team is sold on one beyond those guys) In that case I wait until 18 or 26 and grab Love or Hurts. Then I’d draft another QB in 2021.
OT, OG and C are then our chief needs this year. everything else should be strictly BPA when we pick.
