I think it can be said that for most of the last 20 years, the Phins have managed to get less out of the talent they've had than they should, and Tannehill is no exception. The OL helps...coaching that has him running more helps...Henry being the priority focus for opposing defenses certainly helps. Tannehill had a really good stretch in 2016 when he had basically the same circumstances. I think that was kind of the book on him - when everything around him is good, he's a good QB.
As for Rosen, I really want him to be successful for us. But I haven't seen anything that would remotely suggest he should be Plan A for us @ QB going forward. I'm certainly a strong supporter of having a strong OL and running game and coaching that gets the most out of the roster's talent, but, for me, at quarterback, having a guy who can succeed really only when everything around him is really good just isn't good enough. Sadly, I can't name the starting center for any of the division-leading teams right now without the help of Google. If coaching can unlock something yet unseen in Rosen where he actually elevates the play of those around him as opposed to needing them to elevate him, then that radically changes my perspective. But if it's build around him in the hopes that the rest of the team can consistently make up for his known and seemingly unchangeable deficiencies...oof, I don't even know how to finish that sentence.
Well tamper....to finish that....do you draft a rookie and let him get killed? That certainly didnt help Andrew Luck.
And as much as I loved Marino...My first born is named after him.....I'm not so sure hes 1/2 as successful if he didnt draft right onto a Superbowl team. Richmound Webb took care of him as well as a host of others.
Tannehill leaves this Team and BANG!! hes one of the top 3 rated QBs in the NFL. I think Flores sees it. I dont think a 1st round QB next draft is what we do. Give Rosen a full season behind a solid line. We still have 2 picks in 2021 if Rosen isnt the answer.
I'd say there are a few thoughts that come from different angles to combine to form my perspective:
1. I think that having the right QB is more important that having the right any other individual player/position.
2. I think that the right players at any position can be found anywhere in the draft, and sometimes outside the draft (trade/FA). And a ton of that has to do with having a culture and coaching staff that creates the best environment for players to succeed as a team.
3. Regarding QB, and I hate sounding like Omar cuz I really don't like his reporting overall, I would have to agree with his perspective - don't draft him high if you don't love him.
4. The OL specifically is a unit that can be built to be very good with a number of approaches. While Dallas & SF have currently chosen to build theirs mainly of 1st rounders, with Dallas getting a 1st-round talent in Collins on the cheap. The gold standard for success over the past 20 years and the organization from which our staff comes generally seems to go about building the OL with much less costly players (in terms of draft/trade capital expended and cap space utilized).
5. I don't see acquiring the right QB and building a strong OL as mutually exclusive. Pursuant to #3 above, if we don't draft a QB in 2020, I guess I'll have to assume we didn't love any of them enough to do what it takes to get them and perhaps one of the high picks goes to OL instead of QB.
Given all the various resources we have, I just don't think we have only a couple of narrow options - draft a QB high and get him killed by lack of OL...or draft OL high as the priority and see what we have in Rosen. My best guess is that it looks like:
- draft a QB relatively high, somewhere in top 2 rounds and/or acquire someone like Bridgewater
- acquire solid plug & play G in FA. this departs a bit from the Pats model, but I think an injection of seasoned/proven talent at that position might enable some fast-forwarding
- draft one of the best T available in 1st/2nd rounds
- draft C in 2nd/3rd round
- acquire serviceable but relatively inexpensive T in FA
Overall, and I haven't researched this exhaustively, I'd observe that I doubt KC & Houston are regretting bypassing whichever OL were available to them prior to trading up for Mahomes & Watson. That probably most succinctly summarizes where I am: we don't necessarily need to trade up or pick QB with our highest pick...but I wouldn't want the right QB to slip through our fingers for the sake of a good OL player.
Titan's are limiting Tanne to safe and limited passing (20/22 a game) and running D Henry. When they need him to win and orchestrate a comeback he falls short, see the Carolina game. He is doing a commendable job but I don't think any gms are running to their owners to write a check for him in 2020.
My ideal draft would be QB, OT, DE in the first round in whatever order we felt necessary.
Would love Young (DE from Ohio State) with our first pick or Burrow if he was there. Then with the second one get Hebert or Fromm whichever you love or a OT or C/G then with the third get which one you didn't already pick.
Second round I would like to double down on OL and get a RB or CB.
In third round get whichever was not taken yet.
BTW - In watching the LSU game this weekend I really want that running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire, he is short but is a load , shifty and is a receiving threat.

We shall see.....but many here have said He was done. Good riddance and a no good clipboard holder at best.
Tanny seems good at proving people wrong if you give him have a chance.
What you described above. Safe and limited passing is basically Tom brady Mr. Screen pass himself.
#3 rated QB in the NFL .104 passing rating. I know you have a problem with me for whatever reason.....dont let that keep you from giving praise when its due.

All Great points. Especially dont draft high if you dont love him. I agree with that 100%. If they believe Burrows is that guy ......go for it if hes available. I just believe in defense. Chase Young really seems like a special player to come by every decade or so. A bigger stronger faster JT.

Oh no doubt. He was never going to be successful here.
My point is....look how successful he has been since he left.Actually THE SECOND he left.
Look how successful Minkya Fitzpatrick is doing. Both are headed to the Probowl.
As A long time Dolphins fan I'm concerned what are we changing to make players successful HERE? These are just 2 examples of many players that are drafted by us and leave here only to go on to be very successful.
If that continues it doesnt really matter how many 1st rounders we have or no matter who we pick.
It was a good deal for them but would have been disastrous for Miami to have to pay him 35+ million this year due to the ridiculous overpaid contract from Tbum he had here.
The Titans aren't forcing him to be a pocket passer which he is not. He's probably better off there than he was here.
We know what Tanne can do he can throw for over 4k yards in a season and 25+ tds. I still see him as a solid backup. If he takes TN to the super bowl then I would say ok Tanne can get the job done.
