This is a moderated phorum for the CIVILIZED discussion of the Miami Dolphins. In this phorum, there are rules and moderators to make sure you abide by the rules. The moderators for this phorum are JC and Colonel.
Tony Kornheiser has quit (or left, or was fired) from MNF. He has been replaced by John Gruden.
ESPN and Tony K are saying it was because of the travel schedule for this years slate of games and Tony K's fear of flying. Which I do know for a fact. I do know Tony a bit and know he has a huge fear of flying. But I think there were more to it than the travel schedule.
Chucky is awesome, loved him on the NFL Draft...king of one liners and takes no crap from no one...Cornholio is good on his own show but sucked as a color commentator.
So it is down to Al Michaels, Chucky and Jaws
I would not mind seeing Jaws replaced by Chris Collinsworth. Not a popular opinion on this board but I like him. I also like Jaws...most of the time.
Love the Collinsworth idea. Hated Tony K. Kind of find Gruden to be abrasive and a little off-kilter as a panelist (not much of a departure from his personality as a coach)
Gruden will SUCK on MNF. He won't say anything insightful. He is just waiting for his next job. He won't rip a player or a coach. He won't badmouth anyone. He won't tell you what is REALLY going on. He will protect his friends and be all nice-nice all the tiem.
That is why the guys who are GREAT on TV are the ones who don't want to get back into coaching of any sort.....Madden, Jaws, Theisman, Simms,...etc. They won't SUGAR COAT anything cause they have no reason to or motive beyond just doing their job and being the best at their job.
Who even listens to the commentators on MNF anymore? After Dennis Miller joined the team, I hit the MUTE button and found it much more enjoyable that way

Well I know who I know. Sorry for knowing people and having a career in the business.....
And I don't get the negative thing. In this thread I PRAISE John Madden, Cris Collinsworth, Ron Jaworski, Phil Simms, and Joe Theisman. I RIP one guy (John Gruden) and I'm negaitve??
Sorry, but that's on YOU!!!! If I praise 5 guys and YOU ONLY see the negative I say about 1 guy......that says more about how YOU view things!!!! That ain't on me!!
I say get JIM ROME.... I know he is not an "expert" on football per say, but i do find him entertaining. And one thing is for sure, he will speak his mind and I dont think he minds ripping on anyone. Korn hole was kind of a joke for MNF and certainly so was Miller. In my opinion that is.
Jim Rome would work I think. He wouldn't pull punches. Problem is he might be too harsh.
End of the day, I have NEVER turned on or turned off a football game because of announcers. And I never will. I watch FOR THE GAME itself. No announcer can make or ruin a game for me.
Tony K was the worst that ever approach the job of NFL commentator.
For those wondering YES I am being negative about him.. hated every show I ever saw him do because he stated nothing but the obvious well after any one with common sense would have thought it.
Madden was the best IMHO, Al michaels, the Giff & most guys were fine with me other than the comedian they tried (Dennis Miller).
I actually think Gruden will be good. he knows the game and though he may not put people down specifically he has the right slant on cause or needs in context to the situation. Much like madden, a bit of experience in the job (coach) helps a lot.
Heard from someone who would know today that Matt Millen who is signed with ESPN will pull double duty and take Collinsworth's old job at NFLN and do the Thursday night slate of games with Papa
