Folsom in: This was a gut instinct type of call. I think he will be our ST's ace (like Izzo) and also surprise some as Zach Thomas did back in the day but will be a backup this year at ILB. He is hungry because he didn't even think he would be drafted...let alone by Bill Parcels. He was off to veterinarian school in the fall. So make 310k this year or live in poverty while going to college and trying to support a family? If that isn't motivation, I don't know what is.
Erik Waldon out: There are only so many spots on the roster and I don't see him beating out the remaining OLB's. What has he done to make anyone think he would? He couldn't even claim a spot on the Chiefs roster. he has potential but it isn't enough. He should be a practise squad player again. I don't even think he cold beat out Tearrius George who may land a spot ahead of other guys like DE, Lionel Dotson.
Jason Allen out: Not coachable which ultimately led to his demise in Miami. Why would they continue to pay the 2.6 mil cap hit when they have Thomas and Jones for 500-700k?
Anthony Armstrong out: 5'11 175 pounds. His only chance is to impress as a KR or PR. He would have to beat out London and I don't see it happening. He was a borderline guy for me because we really need a return man and I like Armstrong. His other chance will be if Cam ends up on the PUP list.
Louis Ellis out: You actually question this? Why? he was undrafted and as much as everyone wants a new NT...the odds of him making the team are about as high as KC winning the SB. I also think Soliai steps up this year because he knows it is his last chance.
Anther player on the hot seat is Reggie Torbor. He better step up because he is paid as a starter...3.6 mil cap hit. That's WAY too much for 17 tackles. I think we will look at other FA ILB's in June and after roster cut downs.
Justin Smiley is another. He was signed coming off a shoulder injury and then broke his leg. He also had another shoulder surgery in the off season and counts 3.8 mil against the cap. I see a possible injury settlement coming.
I agree we will surelly look at other LBs who become FAs......As far Jayson allen.....Ive had just enough of him. Time for a new beginning. Cut his butt. He is definetely a bust.
Satan in love with allen, Dumberon in love with beck....its sickening!
I don't see a great difference either other than Special Teams ability and the fact that a guy like Larry Izzo has been in the league for years only because of special teams play. JD's coach said they plan to use him on ST's and 3rd down nickle LB'er so he must have some speed. He has been described as smart, tough with a high motor. Perfect Parcels guy.
I read about both of them and to me they seem like two guys on the opposite ends of the spectrum. One a hard working, hungry, overachiever and the other a highly recruited underachiever who failed to go to a large school because of academics.
The factor that put me over the edge on JD was that Ireland said they refused to reach in any round. They obviously had a higher opinion of JD than Ellis. They thought he was worth a low draft pick and they took a chance on losing Ellis by not drafting him.
Like I said it was a gut feeling. No science involved and you are right, it is a coin flip between which one makes the team if either. I am putting my money on Folsom.
Where's Jason Taylor? You still have to wonder about him. As for Ellis, I say drop Joey Thomas and keep him. How about Nalbone or Bronson instead of Haynos or Martin. They are free-agents at the end of the year. And Ndukwe? He apparently graded out very well. Certainly George or Walden make the team assuming Taylor doesn't get signed.
We don't know, obviously... It's just an opinion or best guess. We can narrow it down to about 90% or better though which equates to within 5 players or so.
