Technically it wont be the Wildcat anymore...

Maybe this has been mentioned. But I havent seen anything on it. The Wildcat formation is when a RB lines up in the shotgun & takes the snap. Right!? But, since Pat White is a QB, wouldnt that technically classify that offense as the "spread". With RB taking snaps its the wildcat, but with Pat White its effectively the spread offense.

Am I right on this?

one other wrinkle in this formation is with White lined up at WR where Ricky Williams was last year. Ronnie then has the option of handing it off to White, who may then pass or run....or Ronnie can keep the ball. That keeps the D guessing until the last moment on a White handoff.

But when Ronnie takes the snap, its the Wildcat. But if Pat lines up behind center, its the spread offense.

or the Split Wing or Delaware Split Buck or a form of the Single Wing formation...

or since White will be a QB/WR it could also be called the Slash Cat formation....

The "spread offense" doesn't have the offset tackle with the LT lined up on the right side and TE covering the left.

It may be a closer resemblance to the "Spread Option" formation.

I guess technically, it depends on what position he is listed as filling.

As we all know: If he takes the QB position then his number will have to be within a certain range and if he is listed as taking a WR position he will have to have his number with in a certain range and the same with the RB position.

So, if he choses to be a QB and takes a number (what was his number in college?) in the QB range, I guess we would have to say it is the spread. If he takes the RB then it will be the WildPat.

Technically if Pat was a traditional QB in our normal set, then yeah.

But, if Pat doesn't establish himself as a QB on normal formations, then he is in the game to execute the Wildcat as a Runner who can throw and not the other way around.

So let's see what position he earns, and then we'll know.

Does anybody really care what they call it? Sheesh. I'm just excited to see what extra dimension Pat White brings to the offense, period. I don't care where he lines up, what he's listed as on the roster, what number he wears, or any of that other gibberish. Just put the ball in his hands! eye popping smiley

Doesn't the O-Line set up in a standard alignment in the spread offense? In the wildcat both LTs line up on one side.

It is the WILDCAT if Pennington is lined up as a WR. If they are taking Pennington off the field and just replacing him with White......then its a "spread offense"

Didn't someone already say that? It's not 100% true. The O-Line alignment is different in the spread and the wildcat.

Kelly Bundy would spell it WILD KAT WILD KAT WILD KAT.

Can't wait to see the wild cat unveiled this year. Teams will go nuts trying to stop it and spending numerous hours in practice trying to figure out how to sop it.

I dont know whos idea was it but whoever it was to try it in the nfl is a genious.
