I think you are in Hawaii, 808? If so you don't have a huge Black inner city problem. Those are two separate problems, unless the police are profiling every young Black male as a gang member which would mean that even Black NERDS like Urkel could get shot by police.

It is a problem but it is a separate problem and one does NOT cause the other and curing one does .not cure the other.

Great Article!!!!

You know what was one of the greatest tragedies for me???

One Black celebrity, a few years ago, was the first to begin to point this out.

Living here in Los Angeles, I had seen too many instances in which young Black males, standing at a bus stop waiting for a bus, having been accepted to good colleges, when some no good slime comes riding by in a car and either because of a color the kid is wearing or the neighborhood that the bus stop may have been in, and shoots that kid.

That really affects me because I am a Black father who has two Black sons, one an associate Professor now and the other in his master's program, who were in the same danger.

Back to the Black celebrity, he began to say the exact same thing. But he was criticized by some Black leaders. But more importantly, right after he spoke out, coincidentally, sexual assaults that he had committed by use of date rape drugs came to light.....it was Bill Cosby.

That, of course, undercut what he had started to say and he had been the only one to say it.

Believe you, me being a Black father with two sons cares more about this issue than those trying to divert attention from the other issue of police profiling of young Black males.

And parenthetically, you'd think about the fact that a lot of police get themselves into trouble by shootings that result not so much from malice or an attempt to do wrong but when these stops produce shootings from excitement, like the famous clip you see of the excited cop shooting the fleeing Black man in the bad that he had pulled over, a less publicized shooting by a female cop when the guy was standing there talking to a male police officer, the shooting of the 9 year old kid holding a toy gun, a less publicized shooting out here on the West Coast of White homeless guy whose was schizo and his father was a police chief, the University Cop in Ohio, was it, shooting at a car that pulled away from a stop.

When a bored cop pulls over a car other than a traffic violation situation, he may think there are only two possible outcomes, he lets the guy go or he makes an arrest, but there are two more outcomes,.....either he or the person pulled over never goes home again.

Bottom line, the tragic thing for young Black males is that they get it from both sides, particularly those doing no wrong. They get profiled, not only by the police but by gunmen from other neighborhoods who ASSUME that they are rival gang members.

But just because one issue exists, that does not mean that the other is excused. No matter which way. Just because there are unjustified police stops are shooting, that does not mean that we should ignore Black on Black shootings of young Black men by other young Black men. .......or vice versa.
