Nose Tackle?

I was totally astounded that no NT was taken on Sat. After the hijinks (read: suspensions) of last year, I didn't think these coaches had much faith in Paul Soliai. I was surprised when the Patriots jumped in front of us to take Ron Brace, seemingly with an eye to denying his services to us, as they will probably get several more years production out of Vince Wilfork after re-signing him. Maybe they don't expect to resign him. I was still more surprised that the Dolphins didn't draft anybody to compete for the NT job, unless they think 6'7" Tony Daniels, or newcomer Joe Cohen, are viable options at the position. Do you think that they like Soliai that much?

Remember that very few college teams play a 3-4, so finding someone who is a NT is very difficult. Teams have to project which guys can handle the NT responsibilities. In this year's draft, the pickings were very slim. It's funny because the 2 BC guys were considered the top NT, but neither has ever played NT. After them, the next best NT prospect may have been the kid from Western Ontario. It was a bad year at the position.

Paul Soliai's suspensions were the result of immature attitude and behaviour. While some people stay idiots their whole lives; even they grow up a bit in their 20's ( usually because they encounter someone who they've pissed off)

in 2009 Ferguson with Soliai should be good enough to get through the season. In the offseason we likely will sign and draft NT.

Unless Soliai, grows up, and finally does something with that 6'4" 344 lb. body he is in. he could be one of the top NT's in the league...if he finds a motor and turns it on.

Yes hopefully soliai get in that weight room and has a solid offseason as far as working out and practice.

He has the tools, he needs the will and dicipline.

Hopefully we keep him for a while and let him develop.

I still remember when we let go of norman hand then he went to the chargers and became a pretty good player for them.

What ever happened to norman hand?

Is he even playing anymore?

What about Chris Gray? Drafted by Don Shula, "genius" Jimmy Johnson cut him and he went on to Seattle to start just about every game for 10 years at C or G. Including the 1,400, 1,600 & 1,800/27 TD seasons with Shaun Alexander.

yeah...I got a little off topic since we were talking about NT's. he was an o-lineman.

I was just thinking of players we let go who went on to be successful....like Grey Reugamer.

He was pretty good but he never duplicated his 62 tackle/15 sack season that he had playing opposite JT. He has been pretty average in Chicago with only one double digit sack season.

He was also traded for Marty Booker after staging a holdout so at least we got something for him.

Yep. I saw that as a good trade for us. Booker was very productive for us at WR, and it always seemed the DE opposite JT had a good season (Armstrong, etc..). So I wasn't convinced Ogunleye was all that good.

A lot of buzz? We traded our last 7th round pick for a 7th rounder next year and didn't draft him. Where is this so called buz at?

I hope Ellis brings it, I'm tired of Soliai's excuses.

He was taken as a free agent.

'He was taken as a free agent'

so were Bess, Camarillo and Cobbs.

I realize that... but my point was that we didn't think enough of the guy to spend as little as a 7th round pick for him so we traded it and didn't even get a better pick next year (which is the norm). We just basically gave up our 7th for another 7th which may be better or worse than the one we let go.

let it go why all the jibberish about a F/A vs 7rd traded whatever. We have a guy that might pan out for us and that's enough for me. I like what I have read about Ellis and hope he works out for us. Really don't care how he got here. Larry Little was a F/A that turned out to be a HoF'er

Huh? What we did was get a guy we wanted without using a draft pick, then put that pick in the "bank" for next year. We made out better than we would have if we would have picked him with the 7th, and we didn't see any other talent we wanted in that round THIS year that we thought we needed to draft (i.e. guys that we didn't think would be available as FAs after the draft). This is the kind of move the Pats make all the time. Don't waste a draft pick...reserve it for next year instead.

Evidently, this kid chose to come to Miami specifically because we did NOT draft a Nose tackle.

He has good size & strength has seems to have the right smarts about learning the techniques at this level. I hope he makes the team.

I'm happy for ya but we were having a conversation. What do you care? So I'm talking jibberish and you say we traded a 7rd????? How ironic.

Everyone hopes he works out but if he was that good we would have drafted him. We drafted JD friggin Folsom for cryin out loud. If he was worth a 7th and Ellis wasn't, what's that tell you? He is a project that we didn't care too much if we got or not.

Please excuse my jibberish. What I meant was that usually when you trade to a team looking to move up to take a specific player, you get a higher pick than what you give up or at least an extra equal pick.

No big deal. We didn't see anyone we really liked so we put it in the bank as you say.

You said it yourself. Why "waste" a draft pick on a guy like Ellis when we can take a chance and sign him as a FA. (i.e. they weren't that high on him but see him as project with potential)

The idiot showed up and weighed in 15 lbs overweight. How stupid can you be? This guy is burning the candle at both ends. From the way he talked about being relieved the FO didn't draft a NT, you would think the light finally came on. If he had any brains at all he would have been working his butt off to get in shape and get a fat new contract. His is up in 2010. I am sick of morons like this.
