Personally I think Gase is in over his head. Come on now, Manning would make anybody look good. Manning would make Philbin look good just as Rodgers made Philbin look respectable. We're in a rebuilding year with a rookie HC. We lost some solid veterans. We start the season with some tough games. I think we're lucky to get back to 8-8.
8-8, 9-7 would show me that we are going in the right direction. Not finishing 4th in the AFC east. Not fooling myself. I like what we did in the off season but we have issues at rb, cb, lb and t/e. I want an offense that scores points and controls the clock. Defense gets off the field and gets some sacks and turnovers. Everybody plays hard, overachieve, win 1 or 2 games that we should lose. That would give me faith in the f/o our qb, hc and team.
Front office got lucky that Tunsel was still available at 13 or the Alonso, Maxwell trade would have looked a lot worse. I have no confidence in Tannenbaum because I adhere to the adage that the best predictor of future behavior is past behavior. There is little that Tannenbaum did right when he was in charge of the jets. Why should I believe that his football IQ suddenly got higher? We went into the off-season with big questions at linebacker & corner. I'm not impressed with what was done to fill those holes. I really hope I'm wrong, but I'm not over-expecting this year.

The sad thing is that if we're right and Tannenbaum implodes, because he's Ross' friend, how long will he be allowed to continue to ruin the franchise? Bad personnel decisions set organizations back years and years. Wannstadt is proof of that. I'm now firmly on board with those hoping that Ross sells the team sooner rather than later.

Implosion is probably what needs to happen for Ross to sell. We've been set back for years ever since Wanny left. Good news is I don't think it's cumulative. At this point, I feel we likely need a new coaching staff and QB, which isn't much different from other teams. Luckily NFL contracts aren't guaranteed. So, unlike the NBA, if we were to dump Suh his contract wouldn't count against the cap like it does in the NBA. In modern times NFL teams have been able to rebuild themselves to respective stature in 2-5 years, but you need good ownership for that. When Ross DOES sell, I hope it goes to either the Robbie or Shula family.

I was hoping that Ross would've been smart enough to have sought a bright young personnel guy to whom he could have entrusted the franchise's decisions. I think if the money was right, and he was given full control of the decision making including player personnel and coaching staff, Miami would have been an attractive place for an Eric DeCosta or someone like him. I have to admit, when I learned that Tannenbaum was in charge, I felt like I'd been punched in the solar plexus. I should be used to this kind of thing by now, I guess.
I didn't like the Tannenbaum hire from day one. This year's roster looks like a rebuild. Letting Vernon and Miller walk and replacing them with aging vets.
We should have 2-3 comp picks so it makes sense if they believe it's a rebuilding year.
The problem is Tannenbaum is in charge of it and he ruined the jets. Now he's using a money ball approach that doesn't work in football. You can't just go by measurables. The guy actually has to have some talent.
So far I'm not convinced that the team is any better than last year. With all the new personnel including new HC et al. I don't think 5-11 is to far off. Of course, I hope my predication is terribly wrong and we win the division and make it into the post season....
We are in another experimental year...much like Edison experimenting with different filaments. It's another trial and error season at most positions and that leaves a lot to work out and then to build upon.
