Just a visual on how big a RB Derrick Henry is:

You are probably right but last I heard he was a free agent.
You're right. A week ago. Serves me right for relying on Google for my double checking. Only when I put in "re-signs" did I get the article so saying. Just Blount and New England got the "free agent" occurrence only.
Wide receivers are much harder to evaluate than RB's. We also got Landry with the second to the last pick in the 2nd round.
If we had the Dallas Cowboys offensive line, I MAY agree. They can blast open holes for Henry to get into the second level and become impossible to tackle. Those were the sort of holes he was running through in Alabama. Miami has done exactly what to fix the worst guard situation in the NFL? Signed an injured career LT and a journeyman, mid-tier RG?
I would give up a 2nd (along with 13) to take Elliott before I would gamble on a back with no "make u miss" ability to play behind this line.
I don't think you can rely on a back like that to fix your running game when you have ignored the offensive line once again.
If you ranked the 2014 and 2015 class together, this is what it would look like.....
1 Todd Gurley
2 Ezekiel Elliott
3 Melvin Gordan
4 Derrick Henry
5 Jay Ajayi
We already have #5. Drafting a nasty LG would help Ajayi more than drafting Henry would help any of our guards look serviceable. That's just my opinion.
Branden Albert: 32 years old and played 16 games ONCE in 8 season.
Jermon Bushrod: 32 years old and missed 14 games over two seasons.
Mike Pouncey: 27 and missed 8 games over last 3 years.
Kraig Urbik: 31 and benched in Buffalo.
Ju'Wuan James: 24, missed 9 games last year.
How many games do you envision these guys starting together? How long before Dallas Thomas is back in the lineup?
You have to keep in mind that the draftniks always have a constant complaint that "well this is in college and in the pros that's tougher."
And when it comes to RBs and QBs, the average reader will get scared. But that applies to every position.
The defensive secondary is tougher.
The opposite line, whether defense or offense is going to be tougher.
In fact, the only positions wherein pros should be no tougher than college is the KICKERS AND PUNTERS.
Draftniks always bring up "but the pro game is tougher" when it is a choice THEY PERSONALLY DON'T LIKE but ohhhhhhhhhhhh when it comes to picks THEY DO LIKE ....then that same criticism MAGICALLY DISAPPEARS.
It's bullsh*t! The college draft and college signings is the MAJOR WAY TEAMS ARE STOCKED!!!
They are not MAINLY stocked from FREE AGENCY or the CFL.
So please don't give me that draftnik Bullsh*t about "Ohhhh but that's playing with the pre-school babies on the playground....nottttt the mighty NFL."
Actually what this particular "draftnik" (and former R said was that DH consistently struggled with the issue in college so chances are he will consistently struggle with the issue in the NFL....unless a team has a great line that will blow open highways for him to run through...
so you're saying that anyone who dominated in college will dominate the same way in the NFL? Same thing? Interesting.
No I'm saying that the fact that the pro game is tougher than college is no reason to not accept as currency the fact that a guy did great in college. It does not give 100% assurance but it is as close as you can get and the draftniks usually try to downplay great success in college on that basis............errrr that is to guys they don't like.
Now, if this "particular 'draftnik'" said that DH consistently struggled with the issue in college....and being able to make cuts but not being able to "redirect" is puzzling to me. And yes, I remember Merrill Hoge.
OK Joe.....I say High 1st , early 2nd, Your saying high 2nd.
I still think if we can deal #13 ..........and I hear Colorado and Arizona would like to get Lynch at QB. Lets make it happen for them.
Grab Henry and extra picks for the many holes we have.
Joe how are Henry's hands? can he catch? I really like his blocking ability and we dont need him to blow open highways, Jerome Bettis will make the HOF on the first ballot just by being consistent and getting 1st downs on 3rd and short.
I don't want to see the next Jerome Bettis or Larry Csonka on the Patriots.
The Patriots have a way of drafting players that the asshole draftniks have talked down to the point that they have to stand outside supermarkets with a tin cup and then when they're on the Patriots, they become the SuperStars that everyone thought they would be before the draft nerds and stat geeks started flapping their gums.
And probably will grab them in the 4th round so that means the Patsies have their cake and eat it too. The Patsies will have drafted the other best players in the first round and then in later rounds will draft the great players that the other 31 teams were so idiotic as to believe these idiots who have them down.

Exactly who gives a **** what the 'draft experts' thinks. Phins would be idiots not to bring in Henry if he is available in the 2nd rnd. Yes he has hands. Although Drake was ALs receiving rb Henry had 5 catches against Ole Miss according to stats. I remember him catching a ball in the flats and gong for 10+ in a game. Now saying that I do like the kid Howard from Indiana also. He too is a bruiser and should be there in round 3. Also in rnd 3 I like the kid from UCLA Perkins(?).
Back to Henry, Hoge and that bunch at ESPN would be all over him if he was from Ohio State, Notre Dame, BC or some big 10 flophouse.
Elliott by far is the better back out of the two no comparison. Henry is not going to reverse field on you and he is not a great back. He is a bell cow runner. Point to a spot on the field and he will get there. I see him as part of a combination backfield.
The word around the league now is you need a platoon of backs. 16 game schedule and all ya know Joe. Do we have a power back now no. We have a bunch of rejects and a British soccer fan w/ a questionable knee and you call picking Henry in rnd 2 a waste?
You just said he was not a great back. So how is that worthy of 42?
I love his size and speed ratio. I just don't like him as an NFL RB in every offense.
As I've said many times, I think fixing the line is a better way to improve our running game and it's not like the pass pro doesn't need to get better as well. It pays off two-fold.
Henry is not ranked much higher than Ajayi and most of that ranking is based on inflated yardage from highways blasted open on the college field and a terrific size to speed ratio. Not necessarily his extraordinary abilities as an NFL RB. He probably would have made a better MLB than Ragland.
We cannot afford to fix the line with an early draft pick AND draft Henry. That's just ignoring the obvious.
We can draft a stud lineman in 1, a CB in 2 and a RB in 3 to pair with Ajayi. He can be dynamic power runner behind a better line, IMO.
Draft EE at 13, CB at 2 and OL in 3 as we an afford less help on the line with an elite talent like Elliott.
Or....CB in 1, OL in 2, RB in 3.
Our line has only changed to the point that ONE starter may be different and he's a projection at LG. What happens WHEN injury strikes AGAIN? Now they are back to 2015 form without the ability to consistently open holes and without the ability to prevent the penetration that will kill a back like Henry. JMO.
Yeah Joe most great rbs were drafted in rnd 2 and most good rbs go in rnd 1. Yep you are the resident genius.
No Henry is not a great back but a very good powerful back.
Your opinion regarding the line is yours fine.
again
Do we have a power back now no. We have a bunch of Rejects and a British soccer fan w/ a Questionable Knee and you call picking Henry in rnd 2 a waste?
Joe, of course we have greater needs then RB. However moving down with get us more Pics to service those needs. That makes a player like Henry later in the first RD or early 2nd a great FIT for us because we have no power backs. haven't since Ricky and Ronnie moved on to greener pastures. That could also be another reason why Tanny hasnt made it to the next level.
