Who do you NOT want the Phins to draft?

There's lots of draft threads here and lots of them have these opinions already dispersed throughout, but I thought it might be nice to have them all in one place.

Also, this draft is widely regarded as having lots of decent talent outside of the Top 10. When I was looking towards contributing to the other threads (Miami should draft OL, etc), I realized there's a number of players and positions that I could support. Too many to list actually, so I thought I'd go the other way. Which selections would I not support?

I also think there should be a qualification - what player(s) do you want the Dolphins to avoid at #13 or, God forbid, trade up for? I'll use one of my examples to clarify this distinction. I do not believe Apple is worthy of the 13th or higher pick. However, if the Dolphins traded down and ended up drafting him 28th while getting additional picks, my feelings aren't so strong against.

Clear as mud? Okay, here are my guys I want the Dolphins to stay away from:

Eli Apple
Darron Lee
Shaq Lawson
Keanu Neal
Noah Spence

See? That list is a lot shorter (for me) than the list of players I'm just perfectly fine with.

How about the rest of you? Any thoughts? Any players you just really would be totally bummed if the Dolphins pulled the trigger on them?

Completely off my (imaginary) draft board...

Shawn Oakman, Noah Spence, Robert Nkemdiche, Jaylon Smith

Other than that your list makes sense to me as well and I'll add in...

All WR's, Mackenzie Alexander, ALL RB's not name Zeke. All DT's, All DE's. All QB's.

My best to worst of who could be available....top 2 are unlikely.

Zeke Elliott
VH3
Jack Conklin
WJ3
Leonard Floyd
Taylor Decker
Reggie Ragland

Okay, that's awesome, thanks for your response because now we have a discussion point.

You went beyond individual players and stated that you will not support the Dolphins drafting any WR, any DT, any DE or any QB... regardless of who the pick actually is.

That is a far more narrowing situation than the one that I'm looking at. And I'm curious as to why?

Let's start in the order you listed. WR. You wouldn't support the Dolphins grabbing Treadwell at #13? To me, a selection like that would almost guarantee a trade of Stills. Parker, Treadwell with Landry in the slot? I'm not sure I can argue against that if your purpose is to give Tannehill the best possible chance to succeed.

Any DT? We only have one currently on the roster. Grabbing another DT is soldifying a position of strength and actually makes sense.

DE? We have nothing at DE at all. We have no pass rushers on this team unless your counting on Wake and Williams to somehow turn into their 3 years ago selfs.

Qb, yes, I get that and we'll just leave it there because QB is a discussion upon itself.

But having taken all those positions out of the equation, what are you hoping for? If you take this exercise and turn it from a player situation (which was my point) into a position situation, then you've totally narrowed the field and changed the discussion. It appears you only want LBs, DBs, or OL

I really don't have a player or players I'd hate the Dolphins for drafting.
I have my favorites but other than that, the prospects are all meh to me.

If I had to pick, I'd pick Floyd and Darron Lee as no-nos because they are speed guys, kinda like Dion Jordan, or Shazier, weak sauce. I want tough guys on D.

We'll see what happens, but I liked the draft last year. Based on last year's selection of Phillips, and McCain, and Lippett, the FO seems to value athleticism, so I'm concerned about Floyd and Lee being the picks.

Hmmm.. Interesting. Both you and Joe put no votes on Floyd. What is the knock on Floyd? At least he's a true linebacker, unlike Lee.

I'm also curious as to why Joe doesn't like Conklin, but I was too focused on his Anti-position stance to get into his actual anti-player positions.

And I guess this thread could be opened up, if the GreatOne doesn't have a bunch of HELL NO'S and only a couple YES! then it might be interesting to see those in this thread as well.

On another point, just because I find it funny, remember all the talk about how the Dolphins were in love with Lynch? Remember how at that time it was thought Lynch might be the #1 overall pick and we couldn't get him without trading up? Now it looks like he will be available at #13.

Hmmmm? Yeah, it's not going to happen. Gase and the team has made it clear their mission is to sink or swim with Tannehill. But, it makes for an interesting scenario, doesn't it? And if Tannehill doesn't improve and Lynch does become the next Big Ben? How many stories are we going to read about members of this front office wanting Lynch?

So much fun in the draft. I took Thursday and Friday off. Anybody in Cali that wants to come over to my draft party is welcome. An open invite to forum members.

I eliminated those positions ONLY because of value and talent level. I think one of our big needs is DT as well as DE but I don't see any available at 13 who are worthy of the pick. Same goes for WR which isn't even a need.

For example: I eliminated all DE's because I don't see any PLAYERS worthy of 13. None impress me and they all have issues...same with DT, etc.

I did not vote against Floyd. He was on my list of potential players. Contrary to Hoo's stance, I don't see Floyd and Lee as similar. Yes, they are both LB'ers but that doesn't really tell the story. Floyd is a 3-4 OLB and edge rusher. Lee is a likely a 4-3 WLB only. They could both play a hybrid role but Lee would play safety and Floyd would be 4-3 SLB and put his hand in the dirt on passing downs. That fills two needs for us since we need an upgrade at SLB and pass rusher.

What are you talking about? He was also on my pro list. He is my #1 player out of the guys that will likely be available. He helps Tannehill more than a rookie WR would, IMO.

Sorry, Joe, I misread your post.

I thought you were listing the players that you didn't want the Dolphins to draft because, you know, that was the title of the thread and the exercise.

Turns out you were listing the players that you DID want the Dolphins to draft at 13 so you do want players like Conklin and Floyd. Which makes far more sense and we are in agreement.

The GREAT ONE reference was not to you because your handle doesn't reference anything like that. However, there's another user on here that is participating in this thread with a handle along the lines of "Thegreatgoo" or something strange like that, and so that is who I was addressing. Sorry for the confusion.

Treasure - I appreciate the fact that you are all in on the Dolphins and will fully support whomever they select and you will be behind them 100% thinking that is our next Hall of Fame player.

This is one of the rare forums and not just Dolphins' forums where posters don't do personal attacks, and don't stalk each other. You can do that at that other site you came from.

Players I don't want at 13....

Eli Apple - good measurables poor tape and a penalty machine

Shaq Lawson

Kevin Dodd

Jack Conklin

Players I would like...

Darron Lee - stud and always around the ball

Zeke Elliott - hands down the best all around back in the draft

Vernon Hargreaves III

William Jackson

What I absolutely don't want to see is Tannembaum trading up for anyone.

We could use an upgrade at WLB but I'm not sure about Darren Lee at 13. He is fast and makes plays in space at times but from what I've read he has way too many missed tackles and is unable to stack and shed linemen due to his small stature.

He could be great in the nickle defense but I'm not sure about him in run support. We had too many issues with missed tackles over the last few years and need to stop the run this year or the defense is doomed. Lee had 21 missed tackles and 5 broken tackles over the last two seasons. That's a lot.

We have Jenkins who regressed last year and will be in a contract year but we also have Hewitt who has gained weight in the off season. I like his chances to overtake Jenkins this year with the added strength and experience.

I'm just not sure. I would want to eliminate as much guess work as I could that high in the draft.

I like lee because he's a play maker. I'm sure he has his flaws like anyone else but when the bucks needed stops he was there.

But 13 probably is a bit high. We really screwed the pooch moving from 8.

Jsm08 I agree it would be a reach taking Conklin at 13. I hope we ditch the pick.

Treasure, some say we should do that but I'd rather have us screw up one pick (by going ahead and drafting at 13) than have us trade down and screw up two picks. I just don't trust our personnel.

I have a feeling there will be at least a few more trades on the first day of the draft and in the end 4 QB's will go in the first round. Hopefully 3 in the top 12 so the elite will drop. If the Eagles trade up to 2 with Cleveland, there is a better chance that Elliott will drop. He is the guy that can change our offense.

We get Elliot our offense will be set. Tanny will have extra time he can read defenses and a great back that can catch and run between tackles and outside.

Sorry, cedaphins, I say our offense won't be set....we still have a problem with the OL.

It's more likely Conklin is gone by 13 then in the board. Wouldn't be a reach at all.

I do not want the phins to draft a bust.

I want them to draft at least 4 hall of famers....Maybe like jerry rice or joe montana or dan marino or emmitt smith or richmond webb.

But i will settle for a guard like keith sims. In the first....

Someone not coming off major surgery would be a good start.

I think we go tall.

Perhaps a power forward or a center.

Of course we need a guard.

That said we'll probably pluck a big mac eater DT or maybe a round mound of rebound. Spell check is a troll.

Maybe we go with a right winger to cut taxes and overspend on the next great ground assault? A heat seeking football missile would be nice. Or maybe a bee bee gun?

Blondes do have more fun.
