There is one guy getting lots of love that may be an option for #8.....
DeForest Buckner, DE 6'7 281 (yes, another Duck)
Put him at strong side DE to set the edge while he refines his pass rush technique. The guy had an incredible 83 tackles, 17 for loss & 10.5 sacks last year.
RE-sign Olivier Vernon and sign Damon Harrison to play next to Suh and our LB's just got MUCH better....whoever they may be.
Draft Kendall Fuller in round 2, Scooby Wright in round 3.

I don't know, Joe. It is going to be extremely difficult for Miami to resign OV. He is going to cost about $4-5K more than the Dolphins are (probably) willing to pay. If they franchise him, that is still too much ($15M?). I read where there are a lot of problems if Miami franchises him, i.e., won't see him on the field until 3-day mini camp/OTA, and with the new coaching staff implementing new schemes and he isn't there?
I have a feeling Miami may offer him a good contract, but it won't be enough. Hopefully, Wake will take a pay cut and an immediate starter can be drafted to replace OV. Also, hopefully what Miami presently has on the roster can at least hold down the position until Miami gets that #1 guy.
I don't really see any sure fire DE's in the draft. A few may be able to start but make an impact? Not so sure unless one of the top two fall to 8. This is the premiere edge rusher spot we are talking about...Weak side DE. I would be ok with getting a starting strong side guy but not weak side who has to face premiere LT's.
How many of that top group from last year made an impact? Dante Fowler, Vic Beasley, Bud Dupree, Shane Ray. It was a better crop last year and deeper, IMO. I think Buckner is the only edge guy that scores higher this year. Bosa is about equal to Fowler from last year...according to NFL.com
We can't afford a place holder from our current roster. Terrence Fede and Demontre Moore? That's it. Yikes. Without pressure and a full d-line, we are so screwed.
There are currently only five 4-3 DE's that make over 10mil a season. I think the media over-shot a bit in projecting OV at 15. Mario Williams is the highest paid at 16 mil and he is about to get cut.
Robert Quinn is 2nd with 14.2 mil. You really think OV merits more than the former NFL sack leader? (JJ watt makes 16.7 mil).
The franchise tag for DE's is 15.4 mil this year.
Von Miller will get it but not OV, IMO. This is a huge issue and they will be screwed if they don't get him signed. Way too many other holes to let our good players walk. I still hope we can get him for 10-11.
I like the first 3 picks that Draftek has for us. Raglands the best mlb in the draft. Solid tackler, good range for his size and can move for his size. I hate getting a mlb at 8 but he will be part of the solution as well as Whitehead who will play guard. Howard's a tall cb. I like Jones but we have Jenkins and Hewitt.Im bringing in a qb in rnd 4 as a backup. Boehm is a good strong C/G and has the leadership and brains that Pouncey does not. I had Johns as a 7th rnd pick too but we should sign a rb in F/A. My draft right now would be:
1 Ragland MLB AL
2 Whitehair G K ST
3 Howard CB Baylor
4 Hogan QB Stanford
5 Boehm C MO
6 McCord OLB MIA
7 Bradberry CB Samford
7 Garrett WR Tulsa
The biggest impact to who is available will be determined by who trades up to get a QB and who re-signs as a FA QB. Goff and Wentz are the only two worth a top 15 pick, IMO. I think Lynch is a low 1, early 2 pick.
The best free agents are Sam Bradford, Brock Osweiler and Kirk Cousins. Next would be Ryan Fitzpatrick and maybe RGIII. The rest are the usual suspects.
Baltimore holds the key spot for the 2nd QB to be taken. I don't think Cleveland gives up that #2 spot unless they sign a FA QB. They did go after Bradford last year and lost out so keep an eye on that.
Teams that I think could trade up.....
Houston (22), Chicago (11), SF (7), Philly (13), LA (15) with Washington (21) as a wildcard if they lose Cousins.
I don't think Jerry Jones drafts a QB at 4 based on an article by Rick Gosselin.
Houston is the most desperate team in need of a QB. They could have won a playoff game if not for their QB. Hoyer had 4 picks, 0 TD's and 136 yards in the playoff loss. They pick 22nd and would have to give up A LOT to get one of the top two QB's. To get from 22 to 6 they would have to give up what amounts to overall pick 20. Most likely that means a 2016 & 17 1st rounder plus a 2nd this year.
The 2nd QB could drop as low as 13 to Philly if Dallas and SF pass so it is possible for Houston to jump to 12 for less picks. They could do that for just a 2nd round pick. That really doesn't help Miami if they want to trade down.
Nick Foles had an awful year in 2015 so LA could be on to a big name for new big city. Local Cali boy Goff would be a great draw but Carson Wentz is good too. That leaves NOLA as the target for a trade up at 12 to beat Philly, should they lose Bradford.
Chicago could opt for the future QB since they can cut Cutler next year with little cap ramification but are a long shot this year.
SF owner has endorsed Kaepernick but Chip Kelly has not. He carries a 7.4 mil dead cap if released.

Its a pipe dream but I don't think there is a team out there that is as desperate as us for a guard. I think it depends on how things go in the second rnd regarding Whitehair coming to us. Staring at this draft I do like it, the best mlb & G in the draft, 2 tall corners and some guys to come in and push the guys in front of them.
That mock makes little sense to me. We are down 3 defensive ends. Even with the FO working to restructure Wake, we still need a base end so Wake can be a PR specialist only. We are still one short, even if we re-sign OV.
So we are going to sign two starting free agent DE's? It's one of the most expensive positions in the league.
Wake has a one year recovery period from the Achilles injury. That means he won't even see the field until week 8 of 2016. He's a phenomenal physical specimen so say week 5 at the earliest. We need a week 1 starter at both ends.
And in that drat scenario we would also have to sign a starting DT in FA. Not to mention FS.
What makes more sense to me is to sign FA guards who have a proven track record. This is a very good year for FA guards. It's also such a huge need that we cannot afford to risk another miss in the draft and spend yet another year talking about poor guard play.
Use the draft to get high quality players with cheap contracts for 4 or 5 years at positions that are most expensive in FA. That would be DE, CB and we all know we need a LB.
I'm not sold on Ragland at 8. He has to prove he is a 3 down player first and not just a product of being protected by two 1st round DT's.
You need to go and watch some Ragland film. He does a good job in dropping in pass coverage something like 7 deflects in 2015. Why does he need to be a 3 down. At times the offense dictates the D and the mlb is pulled out. IMO Ragland has just as much range as Hightower.
We will not fix all of our problems thru the draft I would like us to fix some of them. Do we have a problem at mlb does Ragland fix it yes, do we have a problem at G, does Whitehead fix it yes. Do we have an idiot C w/ no leadership skills yes, does Boehm fix it yes, short corners, need tall WR to catch Tanne's high passes, QB to groom yes, a old yes. That's what this draft does.
Regarding DE I say resign Coples(1) for 2/3 years. He is a run stopper first and that is what we need. he is cheaper than Wake and Vernon who I would let go (I mean both of them). I would bring back Shelby(3). I would sign another guy like Eugene Smith (Rams) to fill out the rotation. I would also see where Fede, Moore and McCain are at in their progress.

Covering a college TE or RB is not really the same as covering an NFL TE or RB. We all know that. That why teams want to see them run at the combine. To see if their production matches their physical traits and how it translates to the NFL.
Why does he
> need to be a 3 down.
How often have you seen a two-down MLB get drafted high in the first round? Brandon Spikes was that guy and he went late 2nd round. Hightower runs a 4.68 and went late in round 1. That's ok speed for a MLB but Hightower was only on the field for 52% of the defensive snaps. Mayo was the MLB in the 4-3, until he got hurt of course.
At times the offense dictates
> the D and the mlb is pulled out. IMO Ragland has

Actually it's usually the SLB that gets pulled. Ideally you want your MLB to never leave the field because he makes the defensive signals. He needs to be on the field leading. The only knock on Ragland at the senior bowl was when he was in coverage. All I'm saying is he still has to prove it. It's too early to project him that high. Nobody has him ranked that high. Certainly there are guys like Zach Thomas, who are not fast but sill effective but he put in more work than most of our coaches.
> We will not fix all of our problems thru the draft

I agree but we are only getting 3 starters out of the draft if they are lucky. We have to supplement in FA. I don't know anyone that is spending the #8 on a part time player. You need that guy full time.
Do we have a
> problem at mlb does Ragland fix it yes,
Maybe. It depends on how he runs. If he pulls a Spikes at the combine and runs a 5.0 40, he will drop like a rock. Spikes was projected to go to Miami back in 2010 at pick 12 before he ran bad. Anything more than 4.7 and Ragland drops big time.
do we have
> a problem at G, does Whitehead fix it yes.
I'm not saying he doesn't fill a need. I'm saying there is more value to be had at other spots when we could address the guard issue in FA from a deep group of FA's. There's little market for DE so we HAVE to draft one short of re-signing all 3 of our DE's.
Do we
> have an idiot C w/ no leadership skills yes,
No.
does
> Boehm fix it yes,
And what are you proposing we do with our 10 mil dollar center? That's way to much money to spend to only move him to right guard. Why draft a position that high that is already filled? I know you have it out for Pouncey but most people don't agree with your assessment.
short corners, need tall WR to

Coples and Shelby as our starters? That gives us about 10 sacks according to their past production.
I would sign another guy like
> Eugene Smith (Rams) to fill out the rotation.
Well now were up to 12 TOTAL sacks from all three DE's.
I
> would also see where Fede, Moore and McCain are at

Moore is cheap and also a head case. Fede and McCain were invisible and I wouldn't count on them for much.
Sorry but your plan leaves us with a worse defense than we had last year. What good is it to get new corners if we have no pressure on the QB? The new defensive scheme is predicated on it according to Vance Joseph. It's just not realistic.
We will have 40 mil in cap space. We need to use it...and from what I'm reading, they have every intention of doing that. I expect one of our first signings to be a LG.
Joe just go look at Ragland's damn film evidently you have not seen much of the guy.
Pouncey is an idiot that provides no leadership. Yes IMO that what he is. And you should know by now that I don't care if people share my opinions after all they are my g'damn opinions. I would trade Pouncey for a 4th rnd pick or higher or hot 6 pack of camel ****. Anyway he would be gone after 2016.
Posting my draft is a fun thing Im just musing. I know you treat it as an opportunity to jump on your keyboard to play coach obvious and point out flaws but to me its what im thinking about the Phins at the moment.
So defensive. I'm just having a conversation....debate....isn't that why we're here?
I'm not playing coach. I'm playing GM....and I'm just pointing out that draftek's mock is not very well thought out.
You basically went off the cuff and posted some plan you probably didn't give much thought and now your getting mad because I explained why it wouldn't work?
Sorry but you have some terrible, terrible ideas. Trade Pouncey for a 4th round pick? That's just ludicrous. LOL
Replace Wake AND Vernon with some schmo named Eugene Sims (not Smith)???? draft bust Coples? and not even draft a DE? Come on man!
Number one Im not mad. Number two I said that I was musing. Im pointing out that DratfTeks 1st 3 rounds does have merit. it fills 3 needs of ours. Im a fan not a nfl front office exec. This is just stuff in my head. I think most people on this board knows this. You have to jump in like you are an nfl front office exec and your horse sh*t ideas are the greatest on earth and everybody else s ideas are full of crap. You are like the A student in a class of retards. Yes I would drop Wake and Vernon and install Coples who was misused in a 3-4 defense. As I said the best our best players have delivered us is 8-8. I would make wholesale changes at the same time I understand Im just a schmo on a keyboard.

Ease up, Mizz. This board is for all of us to voice our opinions, and since none of us work for the Dolphins' front office, that's all it is...opinions.
Debating is what this board is all about.
I don't agree with some of the stuff that is posted here, and much of the time I will put out my ideas as to why.
What is going on here, Mizz, is why some posters have left the board, and other boards. This is all in fun.
Nope my target was JoeF who I have tendacy to disagree w/ and I find his post in reply to mine pompous and pontificating. His outlooks are no different or mind boggling than my own but he has a tendacy to want ti dissect my postings as if he is a nfl professional.
Not to wade into the middle of the nice pissing contest the two of you have going on, but Ragland's my top pick for us in the 1st round.
He's the best MLB in the draft and the best in a number of years and it's our biggest position of need and has been for quite some time.
Now, I do agree that 8th overall is a bit higher than I would like, but that's just too bad. That's where our awful season got us. If we had won a few more games and were picking 12th, would that make the selection of Ragland any better or worse? No. His performance on the field and impact on our defense would be the same.
The absolute last thing I want to do is grab one of the two injured stud OLB's with a Top Ten pick. Sure, sometimes it works out like with Todd Gurley. Sometimes it works out but takes a year like Willis McGahee. Sometimes it doesn't work out at all like Bruce Carter, who was supposed to be one of the top OLB prospects before tearing his ACL his senior season. At least then the Cowboys took him in the 2nd round. People are talking about taking Smith or Jack #8 overall!
After we just spent 1st round picks on Jordan (injured and then addicted to painkillers and subsequently suspended. and suspended again), and Parker, wouldn't it be nice to spend our 1st round pick on a player that will come in and contribute right away and not hope that rehab goes well and they return to form?
I mean, hell. How high do you think Jack or Smith would have gone without getting injured? Any higher than 8? Neither are being downgraded at all for being injured? I just can't believe it.
Well, I believe it because we're the Miami Dolphins. But I can't believe any sane team would do it.
Again, I'm not trying to scout any player or make any predictions on their future production. My point was that the results are not in yet. GM's aren't een making their final rankings until a week before the draft because they want to weigh production and compare it to the combine, pro-day and team workouts.
If someone wants to give their opinion that Ragland is going to be the best LB in the draft, that's fine.
I'm just saying that IF he runs a 4.94 at the combine, he is not worth the 8th pick. If he runs well, he will climb on everyone's board.
If Myles jack is ready to start training camp at 100% and most people say he is, there's no reason to drop him in rankings. Especially when some say he is worthy of a top 4 pick. I wouldn't say the same about Jaylon Smith.
I'm not passing on Patrick Willis (because he hurt his knee a year ago) in favor of Brandon Spikes or Channing Crowder just because they are healthy.
Now, Jack will not run at the combine but there has never been any doubt about his speed. There has been doubt about Ragland's speed. He also measured in two inches shorter than listed. He is 6'1, the same as Jack although Ragland is 260 compared to Jack's 240.
Ragland reportedly ran a 4.6 something after high school but he wasn't 260 lbs either.
Well, you can add one more QB to the top 7 picks since Kaepernick got he feelings hurt in San Fran.
Now Baltimore is in a key spot for a trade up. The Rams could leap frog the 9ers and trade up with the Ravens from 15 to 6. The Rams have two second round picks this year as ammo.
Ravens get #15, 43 & 45 to move down 8 spots. I wish Miami could get a deal like that.
