Sounds like gase is a great oc or qb coach. But there's 52 other guys thank tannehill on the team.

Actually there's only 25 other guys...which is why he needs an accomplished DC like Schwartz and needs to keep Rizzi for ST.

If we hired Schwartz I'd be so much happier with this deal. He's gettable but does gase not want a former hc around?

I hope the adaptability part is correct that would be a refreshing change from the last decade. I still just don't like the way the whole thing was announced. 'QB guru', 'will work directly with Tannehill'...I paraphrase another poster on another thread : 'If we have hired a HEAD coach just to work with a QB...that is insane.'

Looks like they are still trying to get Vance Joseph as DC. It stinks to high heaven. NEVER been anything other than a DB coach.

He could also follow Hue Jackson when he goes. Jackson interviewed with Cle and SF already and is also going to NY.

Bengals blocked VJ's interviews last year. Must be something to him but I prefer experience.

Wasn't Coyle the Bengals DB coach before Philbin dumped him on Miami?

I see a common thread developing here.....

Miami is reportedly close to signing (former player) Shawn Jefferson as WR coach.

Im feeling better about Gase since he is the kind of guy that can tailor an offense to his player and the fact that he is here and not going any where.

Foerster I think there are better but then there are worse guy out there.

I was down on Joseph but the guy has to have earned his reputation. Maybe he has excelled at making defensive calls and adjustments from the booth. Maybe he has been a major voice in developing defensive game plans during the week. There has to be a reason why people are interested in him.

A lot of speculation so far but a question I have is....Why wouldn't Gase let the new DC have a hand in selecting his position coaches?

The speculative rundown so far.....(not official)

Play caller: Adam Gase

QB/OC candidates:

Will Hall: former West Alabama HC, current West Georgia HC.
Tyke Tolbert: Broncos WR coach
Eric Studesville: Former interim HC Broncos, OC Bills
Greg Knapp: QB/passing coord, Broncos, former OC for Atl, Oak & Sea
Brian Callahan:

OL coach: Chris Foerster, James Craig, Ben Wilkerson, Bob Wylie
WR coach: Shawn Jefferson
RB coach: Wilbert Montgomery, Tom Rathman

----------------------------------------------------------------

D Coord: Vance Joseph
DL coach: Clint Hurtt
DB coach: Jerome Henderson

----------------------------------------------------------------

ST coach: Rizzi

Cross Jerome Henderson off the list. He has elected to stay in Dallas for now. Word was that he would follow Vance Joseph as DC but not so much....or maybe Joseph has other plans.

seems to me like Joseph is going to follow Hue Jackson where ever he goes---which makes perfect sense to me, since he is currently on Jackson's staff and not working with Gase.
How this comes as a surprise is beyond me. Sounds like Mr. Gase either was duped into thinking Jackson was a "done deal" or he oversold his ability to compile a staff.
All that said, to me it would be a good thing if we did not elevate a position coach to DC. We need a real live experienced NFL coordinator on our staff and not more romper room rookie learn on the job stuff. There are plenty of experienced DCs out there---Pettine did a great job with the Bills, Schwartz is a great DC with experience with Suh, and various others with and without prior HC experience (although "with" would be a plus). My fear is that none want to tie themselves to a noobie like Gase, or equally likely Gase does not want to work with someone he doesn't already know from elsewhere. Which given his lack of experience in the league really limits what we can get.
A solid staff will make or break this team. We saw it with Phiblin. Gase may be the Einstein of coaches but without a hard ass grizzled vet players can look up to/fear, our leadershipless lockeroom will continue to implode.

This love affair with these Bengals DB coaches is absolutely idiotic. Ross hasn't learned shit over the last few years, has he?

It's bad enough the Miami Dolphins drive us nuts during the season, but for the utter crap to carry over into the off-season is totally insane.

Stephen Ross...PLEASE sell this team and purchase the Pats, Jets, or Bills.

So not only does Dan Campbell lose his Interim HC job, he is not named a coordinator and is apparently headed for the street. Just Beautiful.

Now I know he will SURPASS Todd Bowles.

Im OK w/ these guys as was mention they have a ton of NFL experience on some successful nfl teams. They should know what it takes to develop nfl talent.

I don't think it's a prerequisite that you have to look like a TE to be a TE coach. winking smiley

The guy is cross trained from QB to RB to OL to TE coach.

"Shane Day", according to the urban dictionary, is when you wake up and have a beer for breakfast. What's not to like? smileys with beer

Campbell is likely headed to NOLA or Dallas from what I read.

As posted in another thread I started that can be closed now...Chris Foerster is terrible.

He stunk when he last coached for us and his career does not seem to have gotten any better since. A lot of bouncing around the league and getting fired.

At least these guys have actual NFL experience. What's troubling is the first time HC pulling double duty all while learning on the job. Couple that with a first time DC and I don't see much changing.

What we needed was an experienced coach and coords if we truly wanted to change the culture.

Whoever hires Coughlin will make the biggest turnaround next year. To think we didn't even consider him is laughable. A guy like that walks in and automatically has the respect of the players because of who he is and what he's accomplished.

I knew the day we hired Tannembaum we were screwed. My 14 yr old son will graduate high school before we're relevant again.

That's good stuff, colonel. I sure hope that isn't the case. I also hope I'm wrong.

I'd love to see Gase succeed and these young assistants to flourish and I'll watch every week hoping they do.

I don't necessarily believe that. From what I read, he was not a great OC but he is a very good OL coach. Look back at some of the lines he worked with....very successful as a line coach.

Position coaches come and go every time a HC gets fired. It's comes with the territory. Many line coaches have several jobs throughout their careers. Look at Bill Callahan, Alex Gibbs, etc. They failed as coordinators and HC's but no one would argue they were not good position coaches. Even Hudson Houck bounced around...

Just an example, What about the last time he coached for us? We had one of the worst O-Lines we have ever had under him...and thats saying something.

I do sincerely hope he has learned and improved however.
