It seems pretty black and white to me regarding the level of competition. California and USC and the teams they play produce NFL quality players & star players.

The bottom line is Jackson did more with less....and with stiffer competition.

Aaron Rodgers and a good organization made Philbins career.

Well all signs are pointing to Adam Gase. We're hiring a coach to fix our QB the rest of the team be damned.

Unless he's flanked by reputable coords we're doomed.

This was Ross' guy all along. His yes man Tannenbaum was a good soldier and made this look like a legit search. It also covers his a$$ for extending Tannehill.

With the team scheduling a 2nd interview with Gase Saturday Jackson is off the board for Sunday. If we somehow screw up the negotiation with Gase all of the other qualified candidates will pull their name from consideration and will be stuck with the RB coach from the Bills.

Enjoy your next letter from Ross explaining why this time it WILL work.

Suckers.

Sam, unless I am on a completely different year....that last game of the season DID matter to NE. All their healthy starters were in the game. They needed the win for home field advantage.

Where the confusion may be is that NE wanted to win, but also keep all their starters healthy. Why do you think Brady only through five passes the first half?

As I said in an earlier post, Miami (for some reason) played over their heads and NE played it safe. They didn't expect Miami's defense to play the way they did. They expected to be able to run the ball down our guys' throat, as teams have done all year. It didn't happen.

NE wanted to win that game.

I wish we could do with Campbell what Dallas did with Jason Garrett (not that I'm saying that Jason Garrett is a good coach). They realized that Garrett wasn't ready to be a HC, so they brought in a guy who was ready (Wade Phillips) and let Garrett learn for a few more years and then put Garrett at HC. Don't be sidetracked by the fact Wade Phillips shouldn't have been pushed out or by the fact that Jason Garrett isn't a great coach. Just look at the process. Why can't we have that kind of process with Dan Campbell?

You could tell they werent in any hurry to win the game.

If this game really mattered we would had lost bigtime. They would had put effort to win game.

You could see it that they didnt care.

New england and brady have the dolphins number and this game would not had been any different if they would put some effort. They didnt even try.

kelreign: You're making too much sense.

For my part, I argue that after getting rid of Sparano and letting Todd Bowles (the last INTERIM coach) go we hire another coach with mainly a bunch of assts. on his resume. We let Campbell escape only to hire a guy whose resume looks pretty much the same as Philbin although some quibble on the fine points of that resume Cal (Berkeley) versus some other college institution.

I'll bet that the reason Gase got the job quickly and not waiting for other personnel to come open is because he was the best at giving Ross a mental blow job.

Thus the "whoremongering" allusion, somebody above. The guy runs his Dolphin business like an alcoholic in a cathouse, favoring whoever gives him the best blow job.

Sam, you have your view and I have mine.

NE wanted to win this game. You think they would have left the starters in as long as they did if they didn't want to win? Remember, they were fighting for home field. The only way they could get it was by winning.

But, as I said in one of my posts, they thought they could run it down Miami's throat....as every other team in the NFL had done. It didn't play out that way.

Yes, NE and Brady do have the Fins' number, but...Miami has won their last three home games vs NE, and you can look it up...Brady doesn't have very good numbers vs Miami.

Anyway, that's the way I see it.

Yes, there is a difference between wanting to win it and wanting to win it at ALL COSTS.

They wanted to win it but when it looked like Brady would be hurt, they pulled him.

Did they want to win it at all costs? No. Did they want to win it to get home field throughout the playoffs. Yes.

That's not a self-contradictory two statements. It just means you go to a certain extent but not completely all out.

Anybody in the same position would not try so hard as to risk injury to their MVP.

So even if they ran the ball at us instead of passing, this could have been (as well as figuring it would be effective against us) because it would present less risk to Brady.

obviously all things being equal the pats would have liked to win that game. but they didn't want to risk injury to any of their good players do so. even national press noticed they were barely trying. From Peter King's column:

"the Patriots’ Week 17 game against Miami was one of the strangest attempts at barely trying in a regular season game in years."

I've come across other articles to the same effect
