That's B.S. It wasn't intentional, and shouldn't have even been penalized. He was falling into the QB because he was being extra aggressive on the pass rush. I would hate to have that be my QB, but I wouldn't be crying dirty play if it was.
That's the same way it looked to me, Victor. I couldn't figure out what the hell they were talking about saying Cheap Shot. If there had been no injury then there would not have been anything made of it.
I'd be delighted to see continued aggression, especially when it comes time to play the Pats next. Because that is what it'll take to beat them. I want to see Tom Brady bullied, and I honestly believe that this team will look forward to playing NE thanks to having a head coach that inspires to play hard and aggressive. Finally.
There's no "intent" in the NFL rulebook for this. It is quite simply that hitting a QB below the waist and in the head are fineable offenses - even if there was no penalty drawn on the play for a rule violation.
He's appealing, he may or may not get the fines lowered, but it doesn't even matter if you trip into a QB and end up tackling him at the knees instead of the chest. That may be taken into consideration when determining whether or not there's a flag, but not when determining if there's a fine.
5.0, welcome to the board. Here's a helpful tip for your posting career. Chryen is never wrong. Just ask him. So pointing out he is completely wrong isn't the best of ideas because you will never hear the end of it.
5.0, I'm a lawyer and lawyerly questions are ones to which I respond thoroughly. No anger meant.
BTW since JSM08 wants to give you poster history, be mindful that I'm not on his Christmas wish list because we have been engaged in a multiple years battle....the issue?....He was defending Coach Joe Philbin when I started out (alone I might add) advocating that Philbin should be fired. He's a little bitter now and finds solace in throwing in these little jabs when he can but otherwise he has been speaking in a whisper since Philbin has been gone and particularly since Campbell has been doing so well.
