This issue is being overblown IMO relative to the team's ability to deal with the blitz. Tannehill and Pouncey have ability to adjust protections at any time. Since Pouncey isn't in a position to see a DB blitz, it was Tannehill's fault.
1) Recognize the blitz (did he?)
2) Adjust the pass pro (failed to do in all cases)
3) Find the open man quickly (failed to do in all cases)
Where there's smoke,,
In the beginning Philbin promised us a fast paced offense, 90 offensive plays per game. We've never seen a hint of it. Where is the no huddle? Not much of that either.
Everybody agrees that Tannehill is a smart guy but, is he a fast thinker?
Maybe his limitation is that he can't handle a fast paced offense, can't process the information quick enough behind a shoddy line.
Anybody that watched the Dallas Pats game saw Brady getting pressure in the first quarter and with a little tweaking all that went away for the rest of the game. Our guys just can't seem to make the adjustments.
What a mess.
SamSam. There was a reason that he was SLATED BY EVERYONE to be drafted so highly.
When we drafted him at no. 8, NOBODY SAID...."WHAT IN THE WORLD ARE THEY DOING? That kid is no good."
So how could everyone have been so wrong????
The answer is that they were not wrong at all.
Besides thinking that everyone, from Miami Dolphin officials to everyone else in the April Draft business world, was just dead wrong........
maybe.................
just maybe...............
he is being used improperly.
The only thing we can hope now is that he does not continue to be used improperly.
Steve Young would not have been half the great quarterback he was if he had been forced to just stay in the pocket....no matter what.
Now I concede Steve Young was a better pure passer than Tanny even from the pocket but I'm trying to make the same point I've been trying to make about utilizing a player's natural skills appropriately and to the best advantage.
I hope you guys just don't think "Well, it's like a plumber. He's supposed to be able to work on all kinda pipes and do all kinda things."
Muhammad Ali once was a commentator on a televised fight between Joe Frazier and George Foreman and he said, "What's wrong with Joe? Is he crazy? You can't stand there and try to trade punches with this man and see which one of you can punch harder. Don't he know that the man is dangerous?"
As well as recognizing your opponent's natural strengths, you have to recognize your own natural strengths and yes, weaknesses.
If he didn't notice or take advantage of it then maybe he's not the one for the job.
He just got a $94mm extension. He should be able to do those things and we need to take the kid gloves off. $94mm says he needs to overcome the other deficiencies on the O. So tired of the excuses. Earn your paycheck.
