I think it is the top 3 and then a drop off to guys who are a little more raw.

Parker has more career yards and twice as many TD's (33:15) as Kevin White (Cooper has 31 career TD's.) He only played in the final 6 games of his senior year and averaged 142 yards per game and 20 yards per reception. That projects to 1,846 yards and 11 TD's for the season....and he was still recovering from a broken foot. I think he is very close to the other two in ability. He played for 4 years.

His ability to go after and fight for the ball is awesome. He will out jump anyone who covers him. He is a chain mover, red zone and deep threat with great hands.

@ArmandoSalguero

---> MT @nfldraftscout: #Lions canceled meeting with safety Gerod Holliman. He's already met with Bucs and will meet with Dolphins.

I think he is a 3rd round prospect from most reports. Unless he slips to the 4th, we have no shot, IMO. No way would I take him in the first 2 rounds.

We would have to drop to 28 in order to get a 2nd round pick. We could drop to 18 and pick up a 3rd rounder. I would be ok dropping to 18 or lower if Parker is gone.

Stay put scenario....

1-18: Davante Parker
2-47: PJ Williams
3-80: To NOLA
4-114: Mitch Morse, C/G Missouri

Drop down scenario 1....(Denver)

1-28: Cameron Erving, OC/LG/OT
2-47: Nelson Agholor, SE
2-59: Stephone Anthony, MLB
3-80: Ali Marpet, LG

Drop down scenario 2...(KC)

1-18: La'el Collins, OG/OT
2-47: Nelson Agholor, WR
3-80: Josh Shaw, CB/FS

Drop down scenario 2a...

1-18: Jaelen Strong/Breshad Perriman
2-47: PJ Williams
3-80: Ali Marpet

Stay put scenario is not real appealing to tell you the truth.

We could trade (one) 5th and a 4th to get as high as the top 5 in the 4th round. That would still leave us a 5th.

If we traded both 5th's and a 4th, it would get us as high as the bottom 5 picks in the 3rd.

I've always hated trading down. I think it's a bad move for teams that are talent starved, like the Dolphins. This is especially true in this draft where there are reportedly less than 20 legit first rounders.

IMO the Dolphins' #1 need is CB but if the gurus are right, none may be worthy of the 14th overall pick. Trading down for one seems misplaced to me from a value vs. need perspective.

And I've always hated reaching. If a need meets value (as it did with JuWuan James last year), great! Otherwise, draft BPA. This is always a smart play, but especially so for teams like the Dolphins that have a shallow roster.

20 legit first rounders? I don't even understand that thinking.

I think you have 7-8 blue chippers or 1A players....Certainly you would not group player #20 in with players like Leonard Williams or Kevin White.

I think there are 1A, 1B, 1C and maybe even 1D. The draft is always different. just because you are 1C doesn't mean you aren't worthy of pick 27....

Maybe players 13-23 are all relatively equal. Why not trade down and get the same value? it all depends on the team rankings.

Pick 27 this year may be equal to pick 15 last year...it all varies.

Not sold on Parker. If you watch the highlights on him Bridgewater throws a very catchable soft pass with some arc to it, tannehill does not throw that same kind of ball.

Parker can go up and get it, but if the ball is not thrown like that, what value is it?

Most of the highlights I saw were against UK and UC, not the best comp to compare too.

Im not a Parker fan either. I would like to trade down. Pick up an extra 2. Drop to 20/21 and I think my choice Brown DT TX will still be there.

There is talent in this draft

I kind of like drop downs, because drafting is a bit of a crap shoot to begin with..so logically the more "chances" you give yourself, the better your odds of picking up worthwhile talent...but then again it depends who is there at 14, is it a potential superstar? If so you have to grab him. I really like Trae Waynes, I don't think he is going to be there though.

I agree with you Toko, that drop downs can be advantageous, but that usually applies more with great skilled guys doing the picking who can not only recognize later talent but assure themselves that talent won't be taken in between the drop down.

But it becomes even more risky when the picking is done by someone who might not know what they are doing. I know Ireland botched everything and is GONE but do we have that much more faith in the guys who will be doing the picking now?

Gotta agree.

In *principle* I've liked the *idea* of trading down in general, because you get (basically) multiple 'very good' players instead of gambling that one will be great. But the "one" could be a bust or get injured, etc.

Reality however has been that we need that great player and the risk that goes with choosing him.

The recent CBA that reels in the ridiculous contracts that rookies had been getting also definitely makes it less of a gamble salary cap wise, to go for the top player rather than trade down.

That's all for now from Captain Obvious, and about all I can offer re the draft (can't wait for pre-season!). I'm a self-admitted anti-draftnik.

I don't think we have the ammo to move up, plus I think White and Cooper are long gone by the time pick #9 rolls around.

I agree. I think several teams will be trying to decide whether to take a top WR or Edge Rusher. (3) top WR's and (5) Edge rushers. We would likely have to trade up just to get Davante Parker.

1 Bucs (Qcool smiley
2 Titans (need both and a Qcool smiley
3 Jags (need both)
4 Oak (need both)
5 Was
6 Jets
7 Bears (need both and a DT)
8 ATL (need both)
9 NYG

I really have no clue where Mariota ranks. He could go #2 or drop to 12.

Mariotta should had shut up and not say what he said. Thats it didnt matter to him in what spot he was drafted.

That right there might be a reason why he drops down. Plus there were other qbs throwing better than him in his pro day.

With any luck, several of those teams in need of a WR will go into the draft thinking....we can get a starting WR at the top of round 2 BUT if we need a pass rusher, the starting caliber guys are at the top of round 1. Very deep draft for WR's. The only problem for us is that by the time 47 rolls around, the pickins at WR could be slim. I think 10 WR's will be gone by the time we pick in the second round.

And we could also be looking to trade down in 2 so we get a 3rd back.

Does anyone buy the notion that Tennessee is content with Zach Mettenburger to lead them this year? The GM and HC are on the hot seat after all. It's so hard to judge but they could also go after a QB in later rounds. They did pass on similar talent last year in Carr, Bridgewater, Garoppolo...etc.

After looking at their needs, I think they would love a trade down. They need a NT, WR and RT but they don't need a #2 pick to fill those spots.

So who is most desperate for a QB? Jets, Was and Cleveland. I think the Jets would be the best option for a trade down. Dan Snyder will likely insist on giving RG3 another shot and 12 to Cleveland is a hefty drop. They could drop to 6 and still have a shot at a top WR or the best NT or OT in the draft....then the Jets land Mariota.

Tennesee gets their choice of Dan Shelton, any OT and one of the top WR's (or two).

He would have to agree to a SERIOUS pay cut for Tennessee. He has a 16.5 mil cap hit this year.

Jay Cutler signed a 7 year contract with the Chicago Bears worth $126.7 million on January 2, 2013. $38 million becomes fully guaranteed on the 3rd day of the 2014 League Year. Cutler’s 2016 salary is guaranteed for injury upon signing with $10 million becoming fully guaranteed on the 3rd day of the 2015 League Year - OTC

I say trade up and get any of the 3 cant miss receivers...

We are not fixing this in one year anyways...

What do you do with trading down and pressing your luck.

Again every hole that we have is not going to get fix this year anyways.

Do the same thing every year....Trade up. Sooner or later you are going to
hit on a superstar.

We are not making the playoffs with this team this year anywaYS.

But please do not trade up for an injured player coming out of college...like we did last year.

dont draft players with previous known injuries please.

Sounds like you've been reading the "Jeff Ireland guide to remaining mediocre".

We can ABSOLUTELY, 100% "fix" the team enough to get to the playoffs this year. Anything less is unacceptable.

Here's how a trade down can help us....

(courtesy of first-pick.com)

Round 1 Pick 16 (HOU): DeVante Parker, WR, Louisville (A)
Round 2 Pick 15: D.J. Humphries, OT, Florida (A-)
Round 2 Pick 19 (HOU): Byron Jones, CB, Connecticut (B+)
Round 4 Pick 15: David Cobb, RB, Minnesota (A)
Round 5 Pick 13: Jake Ryan, OLB/ILB, Michigan (B-)
Round 5 Pick 14: Chris Conley, WR, Georgia (A-)
Round 6 Pick 15: Wes Saxton, TE, South Alabama (cool smiley

Traded from 14 to 16 and picked up 2-19.

sorry joe but on what planet do you get the 19th pick in the 2d round for dropping 2 spots in the 1st? not even rick speilman would do that and he gave up a 4th to move up 1 spot in the 1st and was rightly blasted for that
