Atlanta is subject to a fine and possibly a first round draft pick for piping in crowd noise during games. The Pats lost a first round pick for spy gate. Certainly this incident could quantify the same punishment.
That means one more blue chipper available to us! Most mocks have Atlanta taking a pass rusher at 8. Drafting after Atlanta is....
Giants
Rams
Vikings
Browns
Saints
Giants will probably still need a DE even if they tag JPP. This just means that one of the top guys is more likely to fall to them.
Team needs and likely targets....
Giants: DE, OT, RB
Rams: WR, OT, FS
Vikings: OT, WR,
Browns: QB, WR, NT
NO: Pass rusher, CB
Here's hoping for a better spot...

Reports that Atlanta will lose a draft pick for piping in crowd noise. not sure if it will be 1st rounder but we should find out tomorrow.
Ray Farmer suspended by NFL for text gate.

2008 49ers 5th-round pick for tampering with Bears LB Lance Briggs
2008 Patriots 1st-round pick for "Spygate" scandal
2002, 2005 Broncos 3rd-round picks in 2002 and 2005 for circumventing salary cap between 1996-98
2001, 2002 49ers 2001 5th-round pick, 2002 3rd-round pick for salary cap violations

I'm more interested in the part about McKay being suspended.
From former Dolphin CB and current NFL EVP of Football Operations Troy Vincent:
"Our review also determined that Falcons ownership and senior executives, including team President Rich McKay, were unaware of Mr. White's use of an audio file with artificial crowd noise. However, Mr. McKay, as the senior club executive overseeing game operations, bears some responsibility for ensuring that team employees comply with league rules."
There is a precedence now set. For example, if the Pats are found guilty in Deflategate, it could mean Belichick and/or Brady gets suspended.
Does Goodell weigh the difference on players taking PED's? Is taking one kind of steroid less severe of a punishment than of taking another kind? I doubt it, to me cheating is cheating.
Yeah I thinking cheating is cheating. It's the intent to do it, not so much the crime itself. If you're brazen enough to keep doing it, you're more likely to break any rule you think you can get away with...
5th round pick is ridiculous for purposely trying to disrupt the opposing teams offense on every single play.
past Atlanta 5th rounders....
Prince Shembo
Stansly Maponga
Charles Mitchell
Andrew Jackson
Dominique Franks
William Middleton

it's not even a 5th rounder this year. it's one next year so it doesn't even affect this draft or force the team to do some re-planning on the fly. this basically tells the league that pumping in fake crowd noise is an extremely minor deal

No matter what the infraction is....
spygate
bullygate
pumping sound in
deflating the ball
We all should just pull back and think.
These are rich guys dealing with their properties.
Any heavy action in the way of penalties is going to have to be voted IN by the rest of the owners.
If you think something seriously is going to be done to one owner when it has to be voted on by ALL or even a majority of all owners wherein each owner voting is thinking "there but for the grace of God goes me....."
then you might as well still believe in Santa Claus.
Or the Saints? Goodell is just so wildly inconsistent with how he deals with player infractions as well as team punishment, its mind boggling to say the least

Because they had video evidence of them stealing a Super Bowl by taping the Rams private walk through the day before.

That doesn't really address the theory that the owners will not enforce a strict penalty because they are basically policing themselves.

Doesn't the pats penalty for spygate invalidate the that theory?
Each team has a homefield advantage with crowd noise. It's definitely against the rules to enhance that advantage.
However, bumping the noise level from 9 to 10 doesn't have much more of an impact. The opposing team still has to use hand signals and silent counts either way.
And at the end of the day it's not even on the same planet as spygate. I think the falcons got off light. They probably should have had to cough up a 3rd or 4th.
The Patriots should have lost all their picks for two years and belicheat should have been banned for life.
I don't really have a problem with the sound being piped in. I think it is a slippery slope.. Is it ok to have mics and amps in stands to amplify the sound that the fans are creating? Is it ok to design a stadium to maximize and amplify the sounds based on the design and sound/noise engineering?
If it is ok to do it with architecture, design, and construction engineering, why not with microphone, amps, and speakers...
Fireman ED always used a megaphone at home Jets games.. That is an amp, mic and speaker used to amplify crowd noise.. Or our old friend Dolphin Denny use to have his old fashion bull horn to amplify his voice on the field.. Or the people that have air horns in the crowd..
Or when they pump loud music up when the visitors had the ball right up until they snap the ball at Miami Dolphin home games..
I just think the whole thing is kind of nonsense, and the Falcons shouldn't have gotten in any major trouble for it... It happens in different ways all over the NFL.. And once you start penalizing the Falcons for it, it really opens up all the rest of sound amplification that goes on in stadiums around the NFL...

All things are subject to interpretation whichever interpretation prevails at a given time is a function of power and not truth.

Probably because that directly hurts the other teams which are owned by the other owners.
The failure to rein in bullygate, not as much, deflategate and pumping in sound a little more but not as much.
So I was wrong in that an absoute statement cannot be made but generally the more that the action threatens the other owners, the more likely the heavier sanctions will follow, the more that it is a "there but for the grace of God", the less heavy the sanctions.
