Would you rather spend 6-7m a year for the next 5 years on Odrick or nick fairley?

I wasn't advocating we keep him because I think he would be a better fit in a 3-4 defense BUT I just don't buy the talk (from a few) who say he sucks.

I would have questions about Fairley as well....

1. Motivation: He has faced questions in the past regarding attitude and reporting out of shape, overweight. College and NFL.

2. He played next to a guy who may have impacted his value/worth. How much did he benefit from playing next to a guy that opposing DC's game plan around? Fairley's backup also played pretty damn well when Nick was hurt.

3. Detroit can afford to employ a different kind of front when they Suh at DT. It's not your typical 4-3 NT/3T combo. It's basically two 3 technique DT's. Fairley is not a NT and is not big (300 lbs). Miami already tried this style but it didn't work too well without a DT that commands constant double teams.

Now he is changed and motivated because his contract is up? Sounds familiar. He has the talent but I have serious questions about whether he would fall off after getting paid.

I'll take Dan Williams instead. True NT, Better run stuffer, IMO.

Miami would have to trade up to get him, and I don't think they will. Too many other holes to fill to lose a draft pick (or two).

He dominated the combine. THey said he was unblocable. I don't mind the phins trading up if we can get a player like this.

Plus this thing is not going to be fixed this year. We are not even going to make the playoffs with this team.

Maybe now that there will be 2 extra slots we might have a chance but we have too many holes still OL LB CB DL WR....We need a dominating DT and a couple of guards that can play. Need another starting CB and the WR position is in the air. The LBs stunk last year.

They need at least a couple of years to fix all that. I think more.

That list sends something of a mixed message to me. On one hand, it's a testimonial to Dawn Aponte and the front office that the highest rated Dolphin available is Odrick. On the other hand, the few names and the low rankings speaks volumes as to what people think of the talent the Dolphins do have.

I hear ya Joe. I agree that there are better fits for our defense than either Odrick or Fairley.

I was just pointing out that rankings are subjective.

I think 99 dolphin fans out of 100 would take Fairley over Odrick as a DT in our system if those were the choices and Fairley is ranked 10 spots lower on this list.

I think Odrick is a steal for anyone running a 3-4. He'll be a stand out DE in that system. He's never going to be that in ours.

Free agency starts in 15 days!!! Can start negotiating in 12 days.

Have to make a decision on several roster guys by March 15 (Mike Wallace) when bonuses kick in....

I'd try to resign clay. other than that I'd let the rest test the market.

wallace has no reason to restructure. hartline, on the other hand, is the one I'd apporach.

if finnegan doesn't retire cut him.

I'd get a DT and OG in FA. Put turner at one guard spot at the start of OTAs and keep him there all offseason. Let him take his lumps. I'd do the same with Tripp, McCain, and Jordan. LB all offseason.

Shula was a master at slotting guys at certain positions and putting them there from day one. I'd rather they be good at one position than average at 2 or 3.

Yep Chyren...i'm pretty aggressive when I see a player decline. I'd actually try to trade him for some value although the program I was using didn't allow for that. Football is truly a young man's game *unless your a QB.

I'd like to see us go after an edge rusher or two. Cunningham and/or orakpo should be relatively cost effective.

I'd also focus on a starting LG, DT and an inexpensive fs for 1yr.

That allows me to go bpa in the draft.

Omar Kelly ? @OmarKelly

Two players that are featured significantly are Charles Clay and Jared Odrick. That's a positive sign.

Omar Kelly ? @OmarKelly

One player noticeably missing from all the Dolphins preview videos....Mike Wallace. It's a Jarvis Landry love fest.

I'm just messin Toko, I agree with your theory of building thru the draft, I'm a huge fan of the Green Bay Packers front office and how they operate.

As far as cutting aging veterans for up and comers.....works great if you have "up and comers", I supported letting Reggie Bush walk because we had a younger version ready to replace him in the form of Lamar Miller......boy was I wrong. You outright cut Cam Wake, you better hope Dion Jordans nutz drop and he explodes or you're out of a job real quick.

You weren't wrong about Miller, Dolph..It took him some time but I feel he turned the corner this season and is a serviceable RB. Our other running backs aren't too bad either. Although back up guys like Williams and Gillislee haven't been quite able to show it on the field yet, I have seen flashes and am hopeful.

Bush on the other hand, is already in decline. RB's don't have much of a "shelf life" so it's usually a bad idea to invest high draft picks or high salaries on them.

I think my theory about Wake will kind of be proven this 2015 season, although I hate to root against him--his age and mileage stack the odds in favor of a steep diminishment of skills and/or injury. (gambling buds : take the under on sacks)

It sure is fun to use a "Moneyball" approach to Football but its pretty useless unless we are involved with the actual decisions or getting money off Fantasy Football results...lol
