Dump Clay and Draft O'Leary

We don't need Clay. He is not a traditional TE and he is too injury prone.

We can get O'Leary in 3rd or 4th. Kid was Winston's go to guy at Florida ST. He can block and he has the size to be a legitimate Pass catcher and red zone target. With Simms as backup, TE is now a strength.

Oleary and clay are very similar players.

Clay is 6'3 255lbs and O'leary is 6'3 247 lbs.

Both are blocking liabilities in the NFL and both are H-backs at this level.

I don't know why you'd let a proven commodity walk when all it takes is money to sign him in favor of spending a draft pick on a guy who if he pans out will be about as good as the guy you let walk.

Sign Clay.

Clay, Sims, Lynch and a late pick will be fine at TE.

Use that 3rd round pick on an olineman or WR

The track record of letting guys that are a known talent walk to be replaced with "guys just as good at cheaper price" over the last several years is sketchy at best

yes, on the rare occasions we actually have a good player, let's get rid of him. clay for sure. also let's cut mike wallace. those moves will take us to the next level.

Clay is a good TE...but not great one. You only get rid of him for the latter. I don't see that guy in this draft.

The guys was voted top 100 by his peers. He had a down year due to injury. He was one of three players on the Dolphins to make the list. Would you get rid of Wake or Grimes for an unknown, mid-round draft pick? I doubt it.

And we've all seen what he does on the field once he catches the ball. There were times when he just refused to go down. This team needs that!

we need more deals like vontea for a 2d round pick. you never know, you could draft the next jamar taylor with the pick!
also if we can deal someone good like brandon marshall for 2 3d rounders, we could solidify our squad for years to come with the likes of will davis and michael egnew.

No point in grooming a great player and then letting him go. Look what happened with welker.

Clay will be here for a while.

I've watched Nick O'Leary extensively. His skill set really doesn't bring anything new to the table for the Dolphins.

O'Leary cannot run the same routes that Clay can.

Sure he can. But does O'Leary add anything to the offense they don't have already?

If O'Leary is on the board at a value spot relative to his grade, then the Dolphins should draft him. But cutting Clay won't make the Dolphins better. They need more good players like Clay, not fewer.

Update: O'Leary ran a 4.9 in the 40 yard dash today.

I'm pretty sure Clay is faster than that.

Damn, You beat me to it. smiling smiley

The top 3 or 4 TE's this year run like Offensive linemen. All in the 4.9+ area.

Even Clive Walford ran a 4.79. I hope they can block!

Wes Saxton, South Alabama, 6-3 248 4.56 40

No need to pick any TEnds in this draft. The run as fast as Olinemen.

Armando Salguero ?@ArmandoSalguero 8m8 minutes ago
Combine TE coach (from NYG) rips Clive Walford because he "doesn't follow directions" on route he's suppose to run.

Not in college anymore.

and I stand by my statement O'leary will not run the same patters or have the same success as Clay in the nfl. Time will be the judge.

Unless you're lining O'leary up on the outside to run fly patterns every play these 40 times are overblown.

i bet if NE drafts him everyone will forget about his 40 time at the combine.

There are exceptions to every rule...like Heath Miller (4.87) but there must be greater intangibles. Those exceptions are few and far between.

Top TE's in 2014 - yardage....

Rob Gronk 4.68
Greg Olson 4.51
Delanie Walker 4.49
Martellus Bennett 4.68
Jimmy Graham 4.53
Travis Kelcie 4.61
Antonio Gates 4.5
Coby Fleener 4.51
Jason Witten 4.67

I do not believe 40's are over rated...and neither do most GM's. That's why you see them reach for the speed guy at every position every year. It elevates their position in the draft for a reason.

Maybe they should switch him back to TE.

Never hear anyone question his football smarts.

I'd like to know where this Buffalo interest in Clay is coming from....

Sounds like tampering to me.
