Is Rex Ryan "da Bears" material? What about Oakland? He might be a better fit for them. I seriously doubt Ryan would be compatible with Philbin personality wise.
I can imagine Philbin as a elementary school kid, sitting quietly in his seat, waiting for the lunch bell to sound, while Ryan was pulling girls hair, passing notes, making faces at the teacher, cracking jokes and shooting spit balls at other kids like Philbin. These personalities would conflict.

Shefter reporting that Rex's first interview is Atlanta and that he plans to meet with SF also but hasn't scheduled it yet.
I know Atlanta makes sense because of the QB but that defense is a total rebuild.
If he goes to SF he has an elite Defense, a young stud, power back in Carlos Hyde and a good oline. All of that fits the way he wants to play.
Imagine the Jets team he started with with more defensive talent and a better QB.
I think SF make the most sense.
I'm just hoping he interviews poorly and has to consider our DC offer.
I know it won't happen but that was a phone call Hickey had to make.
I thought that was a little odd. I mean, why would the Dolphins do that when Ryan has made it VERY clear he will not take a DC job AND they know he has HC interviews lined up.
I dont know, hard to tell who to believe... Tell me this if Rex said publicly he would take the position do you not think the Dolphins would hire him... Dolphins could very well be backtracking now that the cat got out of the bag so to speak... I am not sure Rex will be hired as a HC... So it should be interesting to see this all play out....

#Dolphins source tells me that Rex Ryan was never offered job as defensive coordinator, despite a report saying otherwise.
I'm not making any comment on the particulars, Crowder. And who knows whatever offer or seeming offer may have come before Rex made the public comments that I am quoting. I confess I really didn't read the whole link.
I'm just saying if this was before Rex was fired and when he, Rex, was contemplating being fired and publicly stated that he would ABSOLUTELY NOT go down to being a DC again, what is this Ross think he is doing or better yet, who does he think he's fooling?
It's a non story, both sides have said it never happened, and it wouldn't even make sense. You can't pay a DC more then the HC, Philbin would never want him around out of fear of Rex taking over, and the source for this story is sketchy at best without one other talking head backing it up, local or national.
Okay, ASSUMING Coyle is so bad, we are owned by a guy that hired Ireland, Mike Sherman and Coyle, and we are going to get better with who he picks, (now that Ryan took himself out) AND we are supposed to live with the illusion that Philbin is just fine?
All of this just because he made one good pick with Lazor?

That's not 8 mill a year. Its a mill over a 3 or 4 year contract.
Monte Kiffin was hires by Dallas as DC before last season and he was the highest paid coordinator in the league at about $1.5m a year plus bonuses.
If that report is true, its probably a 4 year offer at $2mill a year.
That's a tremendous offer for a DC, but it won't come close to what he'd get on TV and he won't have to work even a tiny fraction of the hours a DC puts in each year in order to cash that check.
I'll be stunned if he takes a DC job, even if he doesn't get a HC offer.
