Harbaugh - Out

Sparano - likely out

Mike Smith - rumored to be out

Trestman - rumored to be out

Philbin - Safe?

Regardless of what Ross said last week the way this season ended it wouldn't surprise me if he made a last ditch effort to get Harbaugh. We lost our final 2 games last year and 3 of 4 this year. Some of the anonymous comments after yesterday's game questioning the direction of the team speak volumes.

I know some of you think Harbaugh is an a-hole but everywhere he's gone he's won. When you get an opportunity to upgrade you take it.

If I'm Ross I offer the guy 10mm a year to become the face of the franchise.

You forgot Rex Ryan as being out

As far as Harbaugh goes, I really think the Michigan fan in Ross is stopping him from getting into a bidding war with them. I think he got word that Harbaugh wasn't interested in coming to Miami, looked around at other options, and decided it was best to give it another year with Philbin, we shall see.

The best we could hope for right now is Coyle getting fired, but like I've said all along, who you gonna get that's any good to come here and join a lame duck squad?

How could I forget sexy rexy.

As far as Michigan Ross is probably paying the majority of that salary too so why not increase profits for his pro club?

But yeah, it's wishful thinking.

As far as a new DC we'll end up with a defensive position coach as a first time coordinator. Someone that's coached in a 3-4 scheme preferably. I see Misi walking, Ellerbee and Wheeler getting cut if they don't take paycuts. Wilson, Finnegan, and Delmas gone. We'll have to revamp the entire D anyway. Make the switch back to a 3-4.

I'd love to see a return to the 3-4, but are there any good defensive minds that are available to run that scheme?

New York Jets @nyjets 17m
This morning Woody Johnson informed John Idzik and Rex Ryan that they will not be returning to the team in 2015.

Well this one's official.....who's next?

Wheeler is the only player that doesn't make sense to cut even if he were to become a backup/ST's or role player.

He is going to cost us 4.4 mil on the cap with only a 200k savings if released.

Jay Glazer @JayGlazer 7m
Mike Smith, just fired by Atlanta, knew heading into the season he was in a win-or-else position

Shot number 2 (3 really with Harbaugh and the 49ers parting ways last night). This means Mike Nolan would be available as a DC, no way he comes back, but a guy can dream can't he?

Also, it looks like the Bears have canned their GM Phil Emery

Jay Glazer @JayGlazer 4m
Marc Trestman was just fired as well

And opening number 4 is now there. Alot of my buddies that are Bears fans will love this. Remember when he was Miami's OC for one night way back when?

I think Trestman will be a top 5 OC.

Looks like he coached under Rex Ryan in Baltimore. I did not know that

Yes. As LB coach and they had some pretty good ones.

A few thoughts on the firings....

The Jets made a mistake by firing Ryan.

It's funny that back in 2008, Mike Smith was the new great hire and was coach of the year. Now he is trash.

Tony Sparano was in the running for that award as well in 2008 but lost out because all the credit went to Bill Parcels.

Both were screwed in the end (so to speak) by a bad GM and terrible personnel moves.

The one that's left standing from that 2008 class.....John Harbaugh, who happens to have a great GM who knew how to fix the o-line when they had problems.

Any guesses for new HC's?

How about....

Rex Ryan to Chicago

Todd Bowles to SF

As a closet Michigan fan......I like it. I think his demeanor fits better in college then the pros.

I think the Bears could do something cheap and hire an ex player like Mike Singeltary or Leslie Frazier trying to regain the old smash mouth defense of years gone by. If they're willing to spend money, Rex makes alot of sense and he kinda bridges the gap because of his dads 85 defense. Personally i'd love it, him and the Chicago media would be fun to watch.

Mike Singletary didn't do himself any favors as HC for SF. Too many media meltdowns.

The Bears seem ready for a complete makeover since they fired their GM as well. Emery ticked off a lot of the Chicago staff after making the decision to hire Trestman over Bruce Arians (the HC I wish we would have hired).

I don't think they are looking to go cheap.

If Rex is smart, he will go somewhere that has a good GM....but not too many of those around. If they were good, chances are the HC would not have been fired.

Candidate for GM....Chris Ballard of the Chiefs.

They could also look at Mike Shanahan (or Kubiak) who coached Cutler before.

I think Rex Ryan to Atlanta makes perfect sense. They already have QB & pieces there, just need a Defense, which is what Rexy does best.

Rex would get 14 wins a year in Atlanta.

So we not only have the worst HC but the worst owner.

Teams with 24 mil in cap space dedicated to injured reserve generally do not win in the NFL. Certainly, teams can sometimes overcome this depending on depth and what key positions are affected.

In Arizona's case, they had so many wins by the time the lost their QB, they just had to win a few games to make the PO's. 9-1 and then finished 2-4.

Draft order/ IR cap hit

1 Buccaneers: 29 mil
2 Titans 27 mil
3 Jags: 16 mil
4 Raiders: 29.6 mil
5 Redskins: 25.8 mil

14 Dolphins: 22.4 mil

Playoff Teams....

Patriots: 12 mil
Broncos: 3.9 mil
Bengals: 14 mil
Colts: 9.3 mil
Steelers: 3.9 mil
Ravens: 12 mil

Seahawks: 16.6 mil
Packers: 8.3 mil
Cowboys: 11.5 mil
Lions: 9.7 mil
Panthers: 4.6 mil
Cardinals: 28.9 mil

You cannot blame the HC for that.

True, and in our case anyway much of that money was tied up in players we could not replace adequitely. The only one we could replace without a substantial drop off in production was Moreno and Miller still struggled a bit comparatively speaking.

Our injury report ranged from a low of 10 players to a high of 23 players in each game this season.

Don't win alot with this happening and it's very tough for coaching to overcome it.

With one exception, Ellerbe to IR was a blessing in disguise.

The biggest one on a thin unit was Albert of course. We ended up giving up only 10 or 11 fewer sacks than 2013! Would have been cut to 25 or 30 fewer if Albert stayed healthy.
