We've been really hampered by bad & ineffective coaching, but, if Nick Saban would have landed a QB (that's a different topic for a different day), there's no doubt in my mind we would have won rings. Another big problem was how depleted the roster was that Wannstedt gave Saban.

Nevertheless, take a look at this All-Star lineup:

Head Coach - Nick Saban

Assistant HC- Will Muschamp - Current Auburn DC/Former UF HC

Offensive Coordinator - Scott Linehan - Current Cowboys OC

QB Coach - Jason Garrett - Cowboys HC

RB Coach - Special Teams Coordinator Alabama

TE Coach - Derek Dooley - Former Tennessee HC/current Cowboys WR Coach

OL Coach - Hudson Houck

Offensive Assistant - James Coley - Current Hurricanes OC

Defensive Coordinator - Richard Smith - Former Falcons DC/Current Broncos LB Coach

DL Coach - Dan Quinn - Current Seahawks DC

Asst. DL Coach - Travis Jones - Current Seahawks DL Coach

LB Coach - George Edwards - Current Vikings DC

Special Teams - Keith Armstrong - Current Falcons ST Coordinator

Asst. ST Coach - Dameyune Craig - Current Auburn Co-OC

Wow. Pretty unbelievable Coaching staff.

We'll never know will we? The guys dropped the Dolphins like we had yellow fever.

Nick Saban was out of his collegiate element and could not adequately manipulate NFL paid players. Nor could he recruit like he has mastered at the college level. I don't like this man, yet, he's an incredible college coach. Platitudes for that only. Otherwise, he's still a bum to me as a
Fins fan.

Saban is a quitter! And a liar...

His titanic ego couldn't deal with the fact -- he's not a great coach lacking "superior talent."

So most of the staff he assembled had upward mobility -- BFD.

Other than that -- I think you're looking back with rose colored glasses... Justifying Saban's supreme assholeism via roster talent deficiency etc.

I don't have a great opinion of Satan but IMO...

Saban quit because he made a HUGE mistake in his decision to sign Culpepper over Brees and he knew this team was screwed without a QB.

Arrogance was his undoing. He thought he was a better personnel man than he actually was. Fresh out of the college scene and he drafted...

In 2005

Ronnie Brown over DeMarcus Ware, Derrick Johnson, Aaron Rodgers, Roddy White and Logan Mankins.

Matt Roth over Vincent Jackson, Frank Gore

In 2006 traded 2nd round pick for Culpepper and took

Jason Allen over Antonio Cromartie, Tamba Hali, Nick Mangold, DeMeco Ryans, Daryn Colledge, Greg Jennings, Devin Hester, MJD, Tim Jennings

The 2005 team had all kinds of talent when he got here. All he need to do was add a few missing pieces and we would have been golden. The core was there.

Jim Mandich: “biggest two-bit phony fraud I’ve ever known in my life. ... (If) Nick Saban walked through that door right now, I’d say, ‘Let’s go. Let’s start throwing down (punches).’’

“It was in the hallway and Jeno James had had a heat stroke,’’ Crowder said of James, who was suffering from dehydration brought on by gastroenteritis and would recover. “Saban walks right through the hallway and doesn’t even stop. Here was a guy with foam coming out of his mouth and having convulsions and he doesn’t stop. ..

So yeah, Maybe if he had drafted Aaron Rodgers and Vincent Jackson and MJD, we could have had some success.

No question we had a great coaching staff under Saban. Problem was...we had Saban.

RIP Jim..every time I see a quote of his or hear his name mentioned it's a big SMH for me. Why did he have to leave this earth so soon, he was the only guy I cared to listen to on sports radio.
