We have had past discussions about 2015 and the salary cap. I have researched it a bit more and believe we only have about 8 mil in cap space next year assuming 140 mil cap.

UFA

Daryn Colledge
Matt Moore
Jason Trusnik
Samson Satele
Knowshon Moreno
Louis Delmas
Jared Odrick
Jason Fox
Charles Clay
Jimmy Wilson
LeMichael James
Kelvin Sheppard
Daniel Thomas
Don Jones

RFA

Derrick Shelby
Jonathan Freeny

ERFA

Jordan Kovacs
Michael Thomas
A.J. Francis

If I were GM, I am thinking about a plan similar to this...

Fire Philbin, Coyle & evaluate Lazor. Give new HC right to retain or purge.

Players that need to be purged...

Dannell Ellerbe (+ 8.45 mil as post-June 1 cut)
Randy Starks (+ 5 mil)
Cortland Finnegan (+5 mil)
Brandon Gibson (+ 3.26 mil)
Nate Garner (+1.65 mil)
Earl Mitchell (+ 3 mil)

That's a savings of 26.36 mil giving us 34.36 mil in cap space.

They could also try and restructure Mike Wallace and Brian Hartline.

The only players I would make offers to are Clay, Odrick & Wilson but at bargain to average prices. I would tend to offer Clay more as I think this year was a regression due to lingering injuries and misuse.

I would also resign Don Jones as my ST ace.

other possibilities for purge are....

Shelley Smith (+ 2.75 mil)
Koa Misi (+ 2.7 mil)

Free Agency

Investigate offers for....

Dan Williams (UFA-AZ), 3-4 NT or 4-3 NT
Brandon Flowers (UFA-SD), CB
Orlando Franklin (UFA-Den), LG/RT

2015 NFL DRAFT

Rd 1: Best Available DT or LB
Rd 2: Best OT who can play guard, LB or big bodied WR
Rd 3: Best FS, LB

My main objective would be to assemble dominant lines on both sides of the ball. Build team around defense. No more break downs.

I am leaning toward Todd Bowles because he has been great at using the talent around him and not adhering to any particular defensive scheme. He uses different schemes for different offenses and customizes defense on players strengths...sort of the anti-Coyle. He is a future innovator IMO.

I'll let him decide whether or not to retain Lazor but he needs to step in IF needed. We need to run the ball and get away from the dumb play calling.

I read today that Bowles is from the Parcells tree (not sure if that's true or not?), but if he is, you think that works for/against us? Also, are you keeping Hickey in the above scenario?

Phlimflam he needs to be cut loose. NOW!

Do it NOW!!

Make a bold statement. Incessant garbage will not be tolerated.

The team will respond BIG TIME!

And play inspired football.

Guaranteed.

Hell we could assign Ronald McDonald interim HC and we'd be way better off!

Even Captain Kangaroo. Or Gilligan. Or Wonder Woman.

Just throw the garbage out. It stinks!

Fire Phlimflam NOW! Do the poor sap a favor. Get him out of South Florida!

And please. NO MORE New England garbage.

Example #1: Tony Sprano - garbage from West Haven CT
Example #2: Joe Philbin - Masshole garbage from Springfield Mass.

For frogs sakes, Massholes didn't even know what football was 15 years ago!

Get us a REAL Coach.

Well, Bellichick is from the Parcel's tree so they are not all incompetent losers...well, not incompetent anyway. So is Sean Payton, Mike Zimmer and Tom Coughlin.

I heard Payton could lose his job. Imagine that.

(I tried to make the scenario as the GM, I am indifferent on Hickey but would be ok with keeping him. It's not like there are many candidates out there.)

Billygoat and Sean Payton...

2 excellent examples of CHEATING!!!

And Biggie T???

OMG. Please no more race track rhetoric!

The fat ass won a few games with Lawrence Freaking Taylor breaking bones every other play. Golly. That was really amazing coaching!!!

NOT.

Bill Walsh was a great coach in his time. Don Shula in his prime.

Biggie T was a fat pigskin fraud. His "tree" is filled with rotten apples.

Parcells is one of not many coaches that took two different teams to the SB. No small feat. He took at least five different teams from a losing record to the playoffs. No small feat. You might not like how he bailed on the Phins but, his place in Canton is well deserved.

Payton might be available. Josh MCDaniel

I thought Mitchell played OK. Odrick has been a bust

Hartline needs to go, way overpaid for an average receiver

Tannehill is the tough decision

need to draft a QB or trade for Aaron Murray

I didn't mean it like they were losers, I'm wondering if Parcells would advise him to stay away from Miami because of what happened to Sparano, plus I wonder if Bowles has any heartburn towards Miami because he was passed over last time? I for one would like to see what Bowles could do as HC if Hickey and Lazor stay on board.

Knowing Parcel's reputation, many of them probably don't even speak. Dan Henning may have been the only one. LOL

I'm with Joe. Fire Philbin. Let the new hc decide who to keep and who to dump from the staff.

I'm OK with harbaugh or Ryan. I'm not ok with giving them final say on personnel.

If we hire a coordinator to replace Philbin I'd prefer Lazor or Bowles.

If it's a college coach I'd want gus malhzan.

Cut all the dead weight : Gibson, Ellerbe, wheeler, starks, finnegan, Mitchell, etc.

Trade Hartline if we are keeping this offense.

Re-sign clay, Wilson and Odrick.

I'd look to sign og Mike Iupati away from sf.

Fill as many holes as possible in fa.

Draft for impact... Not need.

We will need young guys at ol, dt, lb, cb, wr, RB, DE, and fs.

Need to find 3 or 4 impact guys in the draft at any of those positions.

I'd prefer to get impact guys on offense if possible.

I thought about Mike Iupati but i think he is a power scheme type player. Not sure how he fits in zone.

Someone said it before, but with Odrick and Wilson for sure, I'd only offer on the lower end of the reasonable spectrum. They're good but not even close to great.

The good news is we have a QB.

Ryan Tannehill: 67% completion, 3,786 yards, 26 TD's & 12 int's. He's only getting better AND there's one game left. He may just go over 4,000 yards for the season. He has improved every year and didn't stall in a new offense. He has a 93.2 QB rating. He is 10th in the NFL in yards AND tied for 9th in TD's.

Lamar Miller needs 79 yards to break 1k.

So I guess I can eliminate the firing of any coaches from the plan. I'm not all that upset with the non-move. New coach would have meant a likely setback anyway.

Adding talent will go a lot further.

The DT's need a makeover starting with the release of Starks and Mitchell.

I really like Dan Williams. He has turned into one of the top big men in the league. PFF has him as the 6th ranked NT vs the run which is what you want most from a NT in a 3-4 or 4-3. I'll leave the upfield stuff to the 3 technique. Odrick would be adequate in that role if we could get him at the right price. Starks is set to count 6 mil against the cap and Mitchell, 3.5 mil. I would offer Odrick something in the range of 4.5 to 5 mil as he has outplayed both other players this year and is young and versatile...Or I would go after the most disruptive DT I can get in the draft. Maybe do both.

Another player who seems to have straightened his life out and is playing top notch football is Rolando McClain. I would investigate what it would take to sign him next year. There aren't many other options in FA for a true MLB. We could also go after one on the first round.

That should fix our run defense, make our pass rush better as well as the secondary. Hell, it would even make Coyle look good.

I agree about bringing Odrick back for the right price, but if his demands are to high, is there any hope that Fede could be ready? I'd also let Clay walk if he wants to break the bank, Sims has looked pretty good the last few weeks.

Fede plays DE although he is a big one. 6'4 282

I would do everything I could to bring Clay back. I think this year was a setback because of injuries. I don't think he will demand a lot but they should try to resign before FA hits.

His numbers don't dictate top money, IMO.

I disagree about letting Clay walk, and he won't likely break the bank. Good teams have more than one TE that can make plays!

I agree Monty, I'm just saying if he wants to cash in I'd let him test the market before I ponied up big bucks. And yes, if we don't resign him, we'd have to replace him. But, that's what good teams do, they draft replacements so they don't have to keep over-spending (ie. Green Bay, Seattle, etc.)

Franchise Tag projection for 2015...

TE 8.3 mil
DT 11 mil

We could theoretically tag Clay and keep him off the market until mid-July (15th) instead of hitting the open market on March 10th. There will be less of a demand at that time and we can try to sign him to a long term deal.

It will be hard to sign clay at a reasonable price after guaranteeing him $8.3m

I'd rather let him test the open market and find out he's not worth anything near that.

I wouldn't be so sure. Teams are always looking for that move TE. They even pay for potential when a player has only shown flashes. I'm not saying he will get a contract in that range but it will be closer than you think.

Mercedes Lewis signed a deal for 7 mil per year 4 years ago.

Dennis Pitta: 6.5 mil (last year)

Jared Cook: 7 mil

Kyle Rudolph: 7.3 mil last year and he's never even had a 500 yard season.

Clay was voted by his peers as a top 100 player last year so he is known and respected.

Daryn Colledge: Gone
Jason Trusnik: Time to move on
Louis Delmas: Move on from injury prone player
Jason Fox: Gone
Kelvin Sheppard: Gone
Daniel Thomas: Time to move on
Samson Satele: low priority/late off season
LeMichael James: PS if eligible.

--------------------------------------------------

Matt Moore: Offer a 2 year/5 mil deal tops.
Knowshon Moreno: offer 1 year 2 mil deal
Charles Clay: Offer 4 year, 28 mil deal. 5 mil cap 1st year.
Jared Odrick: Depends on what we do at DC. Keep if we go to 3-4.
Don Jones: re-sign as ST ace, 750k
Jimmy Wilson: low offer for nickle spot. 1.75 mil

We are looking at a cap number in the 17 mil range if we sign all those players.

We also have to save about 6 mil for the rookie salary pool.

That puts us at 23 mil and we are already approx. 4 mil over the projected 140 mil cap.

That's why we will need to cut so many players and likely not re-sign half of those above players.

Clay is the #1 priority, we can live without Moreno and Odrick if need be. Have to address backup QB. Nobody out there better than Moore.
