I know this is crazy talk to people around here, but I am actually down for Rex Ryan as the next HC.

He took the Jets, with Mark Sanchez as his QB to 2 Conference Championships. His problem in NY has been bad GM's, bad drafts by the GM's, and no Offensive talent or Offensive Coaching.

Those issues wouldn't be a problem in Miami. Lazor and Hickey could stay, Lazor runs the O, Hickey continues to draft well. Tannehill is a decent QB right now, basically on par with Alex Smith, which is good enough.

Rex Ryan would turn guys like Dion Jordan, Chris McCain, Jelani Jenkins, Jamar Taylor, Terrence Fede, and Anthony Johnson into NFL superstars.

Players love Rex and he wouldn't let the players relax in December. He would demand excellence.

That Jets team is one of the most brutally bad rosters I have ever seen and it's not Rex Ryan's fault.

Rex would take the Dolphins deep into the playoffs. He did with the Jets, he would with Miami.

This idea is actually growing on me a little bit Aqua, but you gotta give Rex some of the blame for the inept offenses' he's had. I also wonder if a seemingly meek personality like Hickey would mesh with Ryan's ego, I'd be afraid it would be just another classic power struggle.

For a franchise trying to get out from under the "dysfunctional" tag, not sure hiring the toe sucker would help that.

I think Hickey is not an Alpha male personality.

I think he just wants to scout and find talent. Think Hickey and Rex would work perfect together.

Plus, if Lazor could stay and run the Offense, I don't think Rex or Phins fans would have anything to worry about.

Rex would deliver a top 3 Defense. He would turn a few of those young guys into superstars.

Rex is a clown and I want that clown show nowhere near Miami.

That clown took a team to 2 Conference Championships...

something Miami hasn't been involved with in 30 years.

I have no problems with Rex. He would turn our defense into a more consistent unit abut more likely a dominant one. Look how much pressure he puts on QB's and they have NEVER had an elite pass rusher. I think Olivier VErnon is better than anything he's had to work with...

Great coach IMO, handcuffed by a cheap owner and a GM who's prior job was contract negotiator. That's like hiring Dawn Aponte as GM!

I dont want rex at all, the jets are an embarassment and Rex is the main reason.

I would however like to have Dan Quinn as a head coach.

That's great. he did it with a young Qb who was asked to no lose games. Since then they've been a laughingstock.

I love how Rex gets the benefit of the doubt and philbin the shaft.

Rex has not developed one qb since being there. Blame the gms all you want but it's the head coaches job to hire his assistants and his OCs have been skippy shottenheimer, tony sparano, and marty mornigweig.

They're 3-11. Blame the gm all you want but you are what your record says. He's a DC at best.

I'm with you on Ryan bud, but that roster is his mess. Up until idzick took over Rex got every player he wanted in the draft. Starting with Mark Sanchez.

I can live with him as hc primarily because he fits with Lazor as OC. But I don't want him calling the shots on personnel.

I'm beginning to believe this is the board for misfit Phin fans.

All of the excuses afforded Ryan are the same reasons you want Philbin fired.

Unbelievable.

Ross is looking for a face for his franchise. If that face is the toe sniffer Ryan, heaven help us.

If it was only that easy.

This mess ain't going to be easy to fix.

We all have ideas but nobody knows how to fix this mess. Not even the pro personnel.

How many coaches and qbs weve had since dan and shula retired...And we still clueless.

If Joe Philbin came in and took Tannehill (as a rookie) and the Dolphins to the Conference Championship game & did it again the next year, we wouldn't be having this discussion about firing him.

That's basically what Rex did in NY. You cannot look over the Jets acquisitions since 2008 and give a credible statement that they should have won with that those players. By my count, the drafts from 2008 to present have netted about 4 good players that have made any sort of contribution.

It's well known all around the league that the problems in NY are due to the personnel moves. You don't see "Fire Rex" banners flown over the stadium. They say "Fire Idzik".

Here is another example of how dysfunctional the Jets F.O. is....

Their GM from 2001 to 2005 was Terry Bradway. He was responsible for some of the worst drafts in team history. Dewayne Robertson 4th overall, Mike Nugent in the 2nd round, etc.

They hire Mike Tannenbaum in 2006. He was in charge of player negotiations and VP of Operations at the time. Basically, the Dawn Aponte of the Jets. He also worked under Bradway as the assistant GM. They don't really get rid of Bradyway. They keep him on staff. Tannenbaum is now his former bosses, boss.

In 2012 they fire Tannenbaum and STILL keep Bradway on the staff. He is the current Senior Director of College Scouting.

There might be a problem with ownership...and you thought we had it bad.

That's why I said I think Hickey stays. Hickey still gets the players, Rex is HC & runs the D, Lazor still runs the Offense.

JSM08, when you're down in the grave, the "bottom of the barrel" looks pretty good by comparison.

Rex may be the bottom of the barrel but Philbin is lower than that.

If you're saying "get somebody better" then yeah, we should if we can.

If you're saying "stick with Joe if that's all you can get," then "Hell no!"

In terms of what I think is the best potentially realistic solution, it would be Harbaugh as head coach with Rex as DC (my personal feelings aside). Harbaugh obviously can decide whether to keep Lazor or not, but I like him and hope there would be a seat on the bus for him.

And, it's probably not as far-fetched as it might appear. The best way for a head coach to prove he deserves another chance is to be a significant part of a winner. I could see both of them looking at our roster and seeing that the sum of our parts has been less than the whole...in other words, a team ready to take the next step. We were playing right with - and beating until the last second - some of the best teams in the league in mid-season form. We came back from down to beat NE and we killed SD. Injuries have hurt us, but we play super-flat when the season is on the line. I don't think that's players as much as coaches.

I'm sorry but no way in hell would I give up a 1st (or multiple) round picks for Jim Harbaugh? We're going to pass on a potential franchise player for a coach that alienates everyone around him and walk away in a few years? No thank you!

Everyone says our coaches should have done better even with all our injuries but what did Harbaugh do when SF had an injury riddled year? He produced the exact same record as Joe Philbin.

We need the player talent first and foremost. I find it hard to believe that there isn't a coach around the entire NCAA and NFL that couldn't do as good or better than Jim Harbaugh or Joe Philbin...for no draft picks.

I personally don't care for Jim Harbaugh -- having a dominant tendency to being an asshole -- but the dude has proven to be a legit N F L HC -- Phlimflam has proven WHY he was never a HC at any level.

Plain and simple, there's ZERO to compare between Harbaugh and Phlimflam.

Beyond that, Rex is also a proven asshole -- but he'salso proven to be a legit N F L HC -- tho IMO he's not in the category of Harbaugh.

But again, there's no comparison between Ryan and Phlimflam.

Last, no one is into trading draft picks for HC, but if Harbaugh produces like he did early on in SF -- he's worth a #1. No question...

Offense:

QB Alex Smith
RB Frank Gore
WR Michael Crabtree
TE Vernon Davis, Delanie Walker
LT Joe Staley
LG Mike Iupati
C David Baas
RG Chilo Rachal
RT Anthony Davis

Defense:

NT Abrayo Franklin
34DE Justin Smith
OLB Manny Lawson
ILB Patrick Willis
ILB Navarro Bowman
ILB Takeo Spikes
OLB Ahmad Brooks
CB Nate Clements
FS Dashon Goldson
SS Reggie Smith

That Jim Harbaugh really had his work cut out for him!

Now look at their drafting AFTER Harbaugh took over in 2011. You have Colin Kaepernick and Aldon Smith and ??????

Sometimes you have to look beyond the obvious.

what's Obvious is... Most folks who follow football know that Jim Harbaugh is very good coach.

Phlimflam obviously blows as a HC

Ryan has shown he's capable of beating Billygoat on the road in the playoffs.

Coaches coach. Let the GM be responsible for talent acquisition.

Just a thought.

These are the facts...

Harbaugh is a better coach than Joe Philbin.

Harbaugh can win if he has a roster full of top notch players.

Harbaugh is not above struggling when the injury bug hits.

The QB he let go is playing better than the QB he "groomed".

Harbaugh took a 12-4 team and turned in 7 wins so far.

Philbin took an 8-8 team an turned in 7 wins so far.

Bum Phillips once said...

"Don Shula can take his'n and beat yorn, and he could take yorn and beat his'n.

I can think of only a few coaches who I would say that about. Harbaugh is not one of them.

Harbaugh lost to the Bears, Rams and Raiders this year.

&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&
But here are the *REAL FACTS* about Jim Harbaugh:

He's been a HC in 3 different spots, all 3 were either below average or flat out bad when he took over and all 3 spots IMMEDIATELY became winners. Immediately.
