I think it depends. We could still go 3-1 to close the season, miss the playoffs at 10-6 and retain Philbin. If that happens, I don't see any coaches getting fired. Coyle stays.
It's not hard to judge that we are a few pieces away from being a perennial contender.
1. Fix the o-line by getting healthy and finding that dominant guard.
2. Fix the defense by adding a better DT and a CB.
Going 10 - 6 and not making the play-offs would be OK. Going 9 - 7 would be a bit disappointing. However, if we finish the season with a whimper, like the past two seasons, then Philbin should be gone and I'd welcome Ryan with open arms.
Actually Ryan is not too bad of a coach, esp. on the defensive side..where he is lacking is in the player selection/ keep him away from the draft! Well, ok he is allowed input on defensive players but not the offense.
