This is a moderated phorum for the CIVILIZED discussion of the Miami Dolphins. In this phorum, there are rules and moderators to make sure you abide by the rules. The moderators for this phorum are JC and Colonel.
All the DB injuries aside, Cameron Wake has not had a sack in two weeks and did not have so much as a hurry last week in Denver.
Vernon had a sack vs Buffalo but not so much as a hurry last week either.
They are both having good seasons overall but have been equalized for two weeks now.
No Chris McCain sighting since the beginning of the season and nothing from Jordan other than being good in coverage.
It's almost as though teams are able to block our DT's one on one and double the DE's. The DT's are getting no push in the passing game. Starks is still decent but has fallen way off from last year. He has not been good vs the run. He is even splitting snaps with Mitchell and still not much of a factor. He is probably gone next year with a 6 mil cap hit savings. With Odrick being a FA, I would not be surprise if we drafted one high in 2015 although there are some good FA's coming available.
Hopefully they get back on track this week as they have a tough task vs Baltimore in two weeks. The Ravens have two of the most dominant guards in the game.
Excellent observations Joe. Its something I've been pondering as well but you stated it so much better then I could have. Why don't they give McCain a shot? We need a coach that can get creative and use the talents that this team has.
Well my fears came to fruition. It was not the DE's that were the problem, it was the DT's.
It may become our #1 need in the off season.
I had concerns that trading Mitchell (290) for Soliai (345) would end up hurting us in the run game. Those concerns are very real now.
This scheme needs a true 1 technique, NT.
Odrick is a complimentary guy and will never be a dominant 3 technique. He is a better fit as a 34 or 43 run stuffing DE, IMO. I would not offer him a big contract even though he has been our best DT. We need a complete make over.
None of our DT's can beat the double team. I watched them all night.
Starks is a backup at this point in his career. Mitchell is another complimentary rotational guy. Not big enough. He has the size of a 3-4 DE.
All we can do now is try to rotate in one of the younger guys (like Anthony Johnson) because every team we face will try and run the ball down our throat. We are in big trouble when they also have a QB who can throw it when we have to put 8 or 9 in the box. Coyle is going to have to get creative and go with a more stout d-line and maybe 3 DT's.
Ireland's moves are still messing with us. Had he stayed put in the first round of the 2013 draft, we could have taken Sheldon Richardson (and Kiko Alonso) and we wouldn't be having this discussion. We had a need at DT if you recall. We could have chosen from Richardson, Lotulelei, Sharrif Floyd & Kawann Short or Jonathan Hankins (in the second round). Floyd and Hankins are dominating this year.
The reality is that our DT's have been in decline for years and our rush defense has been getting worse every year. It was not a bad move to let Soliai leave as his skills have diminished. The problem was replacing him with a 2nd or 3rd tier player. We should have been planning for this and looking for younger players, preferably in the draft.
Ndamukong Suh will be demanding a contract similar to that of Gerald McCoy at 6 year, 95 mil. That's 12-15 annually with over 20 mil the first year.
MLB is an issue but it appears when they call aggresive plays our lbs look much better. The passive read and react is killing us go ahead and let them attack!
they're supposed to read the gaps to attack. misi more often than not runs right up the backside of a DT and gets lost. Jenkins attacks the gap. Wheeler was attacking too.
Misi shows up on film because he's the one standing over the tackle.

I think if you was the coach the phins would be undefeated. I really do.
did you notice, go back and watch the tape. When Coyle finally did just that in the second half, they stopped being able to run the ball up the middle.
Of course 8 men in the box helped, but again that was something I said they should do after the 3rd play of the game.

You should apply for a defensive coaching job. I believe you would make the phins D a lot better.
They should be able to play like in your playstation.
