Stats and commentaries and all that are meaningless. I think the NFL is so close now that the top team can be beaten by the worst team on any given day and that any game can turn on one play or one decision.
I just hope I'm NOT proven right when we play the hapless Jets.
Meh, exactly what are these 'ratings' based on other than the opinion of the 'editors' of this web site? Tannehill has played well AT TIMES but top 10? Really? Every quantitative ranking I see on ESPN.com or NFL.com has him middle of the pack.
Rankings are always subjective but I don't see why anyone would not be optimistic about the direction Tannehill is headed.
I don't put a lot of stock into NFL QB ratings. I think they fail to measure certain "measurables".
That being said, he just posted the first consecutive 100+ ratings of his career and has 5 on the season. They occurred in 3 out of the last 4 games.
I need only to watch his performance to see the progression and direction.
I have little doubt that Tannehill would have been successful in the WCO. Maybe not with Sherman the dinosaur but had they used him properly and showed a little common sense, he could have excelled in that offense as well.
Now, he sits 11 games into a new offense. He has shown more growth from weeks 4 to 11 than ever before. His demeanor is different and you can now see the confidence and leadership. The only possible knock on him at this point is the deep ball...and that only makes up about 9-10% of any QB's game. That's the average number for NFL Qb's on balls over 20 yards. I think it will develop as time goes on as his confidence grows.
As I look at all the QB's around the league with ratings higher than Tannehill (currently 13), I see they pretty much all have a franchise, big play WR AND/or TE. Something Miami is lacking.
WR's for top ranked QB's in order....
1 Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb
2 DeMaryius Thomas, Julius Thomas, Emmanuel Sanders
3 Dez Bryant, Jason Witten
4 TY Hilton, Reggie Wayne, Coby Fleener
5 Antonio Gates, Keenan Allen, Malcomb Floyd
6 Antonio Brown
7 Marques Colston, Jimmy Graham
8 Rob Gronk
9 Andre Johnson, DeAndre Hopkins
10 Larry Fitgerald, Michael Floyd, John Brown (borderline)
11 Seahawks only exception
12 Julio Jones, Roddie White
13 Torrey Smith, Steve Smith
14 Miami Dolphins & RT
Once many thought we had one of the best WR squads in the league. That's not really the case. They are good but void of big play makers. Landry is the closest we have and still up and coming. I think in order to take the next step, we will need a guy who can make plays but also fight for jump balls. Mike Wallace is great if he gets a perfect pass in stride but sometimes you need a guy who can make that great catch and make consistent big plays.
Not only the recievers he has, but the pocket still collapses around him too quick. Did you see Rodgers on that one play yesterday had like 12 seconds or something?
I wouldn't say we have bad receivers we just don't have receivers that fit Tannehills strengths in the passing game. We need a big Calvin Johnson type or physical Steve smith clone.
I just wish our O Line could have settled in and played together all year with out injuires and the positional merry go rounds. They, like Tannehill, played well at times. We had a top 5 rushing attack a few weeks ago.
I wasn't ragging on Tannehill...to much he has improved leaps and bounds over last year. I just don't think he's a top 10 QB, top half of the league yes, top 10...no.
I said our WR's were "good but void of play makers". Not bad.
We are likely going to start the season with James as our starting LT so we really need to get a look at Dallas Thomas over the next 5 games if he can hold out that long. He has not looked bad and would be a cheap alternative for having to sign or draft a RT when we have needs at guard.
Albert should take back over by November but that leaves us in the same position as this year with Pouncey missing the start of the season.
I truly believe Pouncey is a better center than RG so he needs to move back next year. That leaves us with two spots to fill at guard. Turner may turn into a starter but who knows after his red shirt year.
It depends. In the right offense, I think he could be but he would have to step it up a notch or three.
He was an legit "deep threat" receiver for 2.5 out of 4 years with Pittsburgh. That does not necessarily translate to elite #1 receiver.
Basically all he did was run the 9 route. He also played opposite of a veteran Hines Ward, Antonio Brown and Emmanuel Sanders. Ben is also a great deep passer.
So do I think he would be a big play receiver for ALL those other QB's? NO.
Let's remember that we are comparing Tannehill to elite Qb's who have been in the NFL for years and had lots of experience in college as well. The only other QB on that list who has been in the league 3 years or less is Russell Wilson.
Wallace did have two OTHER years playing with Ben and he didn't do as well. One was his 4th season. Once they changed to the Todd Haley offense, he was not the same guy. He basically became what he is here.
Antonio Brown does not possess the deep speed that Wallace does and also plays in a dink and dunk offense BUT he still leads the league in yards and is up there in TD's. Why? because he is a play maker and makes things happen after the catch. He can also make the routine tough catch. And he is smaller than Wallace.

I would not call the Steelers a dink and dunk offense as Ben can and does throw the deep ball regularly.
Wallace is a much better receiver now all around then when he was with the Steelers. He would be a stuf with all those other QB's and his numbers would be higher.
He is playing very well for us. In this offense there won't ever be a number 1 stat guy as the offense is designed to move the ball around to the open guy.
I still feel the Dolphins have one of the best WR groups in depth as any in the league.
Since Clay cannot stay healthy it would be nice to have a big target TE.

He dropped another sure TD pass vs the Jets. RT had the ball in perfect position for him.
Looked like Wallace was thinking "ESPN top plays" by sticking just one hand out to try to bring it in. Didn't work. Wonder how he would have felt if Miami had lost that game because of his blunder?

RT is not, at present, a top 10 QB, due to both his weakness (the long ball) and the offensive line's struggles.
We fans, don't know if and when a long ball play is called. RT doesn't have enough time to get back and look for a receiver down the field to even try to throw one. The only long balls I see is when he is running for his life and gets rid of it at the last second.
Once Miami gets their offensive line problems fixed, then I believe we will see RT's game improve even more than it already has.
Tannehill has been one of the more underrated quarterbacks in fantasy land, and he's someone owners should be able to trust when the matchup is favorable. That's the case this weekend, as the Ravens have given up an average of more than 22 fantasy points per game to home signal-callers. Look for Tannehill to produce in Week 14.
Joe Flacco vs. Miami Dolphins
A member of the start 'em list last week, Flacco produced one of his best stat lines of the season. But here's the issue I have with him in Week 14 ... Flacco isn't as productive on the road as he is at home, and the Dolphins are formidable against opposing quarterbacks (12.3 fantasy PPG allowed) playing in South Florida.

Well, Joe, yes, RT has been playing well, however, I wonder what is going on with the (extremely) short passes?
Is that what Lazor wants RT to run (keep him comfortable), doesn't have the time to get it downfield, or is it that Lazor/Philbin don't trust him to go 20 yards?
True, I have seen RT hit those 15+ yarders, but not very often, lately.
If that style of play is in Miami's game plan vs Balt, then the Fins are going to have an extremely hard time winning the game.
Lazor needs to back up Balt's linebackers, which will help with the running game. Once Miami starts having success on the ground, the LBers will get closer, then RT can go downfield.
I would also have RT go deep at least two or three times; keep those safeties back. And I mean as part of the package, not when RT is scrambling. I would like to see at least one of those completed, but if not, that would be OK as that would open up the middle of the field.
Not even gonna talk about the D. They just have to get their act together, otherwise....
