everybody want to say the witnessed the best of something

great catch but way overblown. I hate that it overshadows the actual victor in that game.

Clearly a personal accomplishment. A stupendous catch. Grimes' interception was sensational too. The latest and greatest will always catch the imagination of people seeing it. Many of us saw both take place. Neither one, however, are the type of events that become myths though...not quite grand enough to the game. It's not like winning 7 Gold Medals at the Olympics which is monumental to the event.

Gadsden used to make those catches weekly and if that was the best catch of all time, people have forgotten about Chris Carter, Lynn Swann and a whole crop of old WR's.

I still think the David Tyree catch in the Superbowl is the best ever, not just because of the level of difficulty but because of its significance.

Is the catch better than "the catch"? LOL

The thing that I thought made it so amazing that it wasn't a little 15 yard flip caught with one hand, it was a BOMB. Passes thrown that far are coming in HOT. To pluck it out of mid air like that with one hand BEHIND YOUR HEAD and be able to bring it back in mid air was amazing.

I agree, everyone wants to call something the greatest of all time...Not realizing they are actually unfairly marginalizing everything else before that point... Pretty foolish but also pretty typical... Hey, sensationalism it sells!

I got it . Plaxico Burress in the superbowl against the Pats. Without that the Dolphins lose their perfect season. The Pats do down as the greatest ever instead of being the chokers they are known for.

GO DOLPHINS!!!!

I know I'm heading into territory in which you guys might arrest me but I've been watching football since the mid 50's when I was 10 and I've never seen such a spectacular catch as the one yesterday.

Absolutely right. No reception in NFL history is even close.

This historical ramifications of that catch are unbelievable.

That was the immaculate reception. "The catch" was Dwight Clark.

I agree with ChyrenB. Francos Immaculate reception, Clark's 'The Catch' and Tyrees 4th down 'On the helmet' grab setting up the demise of the Pats 'Perfect' (lol) season all had bigger ramifications on the game they were made in as well as more 'historical' significance...But I'm sorry, NONE of them compared with the shear athleticism of that catch last Sunday (although Tyree did have a dirty Patriot DB forearming him in the small of the back) I think that was an amazing an individual play as I've ever seen in any sport whether it was as 'significant' as the others or not.

JR's catch Sunday was awesome, but there's been equally awesome catches in the past, the link I posted of Orandes' is just as incredible IMO, Grimes INT is close to as spectacular, there's been plenty throughout the years, the difference is the coverage the NFL gets now amplifies it. Shortly after the catch, Lebron tweets about it and 5 mins later NBC is showing the tweet live to a national audiance, I saw 20 different people post about it on Facebook Sunday night, it didn't hurt that it happened in NY on Sunday night.

Yeah that was nuts cap, since Sunday night there's been lots of talk on how Landry and Beckam practiced 1 handed circus catches almost everyday in practice at LSU, I'm sure we'll see plenty more out of these two for years to come.

That may have been one of the best one-two punches in college history. Those guys are football players. Funny thing is Landry outproduced OD in senior year.

I think Tyree had the best ever. Just it was needed at the most crucial of time and helped keep the Dolphins the only team ever.

Significant catch? no doubt. Most significant? Questionable. Best catch ib NFL history? Nah, there have been far too many great catches to say so.

The best, due to the circumstances and physical requirements, catch I have seen in 40+ years. Randy Moss is maybe the only other receiver that could have made that catch

Right, there are two vastly different tests. One "great" is judged by its importance. The other "great" is judged by the physicality of the catch. The one last week fits the second test.
