On one of the games, I think it was SNF, Chucky and the other announcers were ragging on the "Read Option" and talking about how quarterbacks running it risk too much injury.
They had back up film of the injuries to RGIII and Cam Newton and were predicting coming injury to Russell Wilson and saying that Colin Kaepernick's performance has fallen off.
They said it would never last in the NFL. All the points you've been making.
I saw that conversation too. The RO is gimmicky according to Chucky. These guys need to stay in the pocket more and not risk injury running around like a RB. Their pads are too small he said for that hard contact.
There is some truth to it. I prefer a scrambler like Tarkenton. BTW, he held the overall passing record that Dan broke. He lasted a long time too dodging the defense. Yes, it was a different time. But interesting.
(Editing note: I type a C instead of D for Dan. Fixed it.)

I admit some of the shit Tannehill does scares the shit out of me. But the bootlegs shouldn't be much of a problem. I've only seen him sacked in the pocket.

Like just showing utterly NO FEAR. Tackling people. Running head first instead of sliding like that bitch Fairy Brady and kicking people. Leading by example. if half the Team had his heart we would be Superbowl champions.
actually I like the no fear part of him. he is smart enough to slide when he has too, he is not taking many brutal hits on this runs. he gets hit harder in the pocket.
When he runs he looks like he is having fun, that makes him a better player
I think the wide receiver in him makes open field running (and tackling LOL) easier for him to avoid injury. Funny that those who prefer him to stay in the pocket ignore the reality that injury is far more likely there from even a twisted ankle or a sprained knee even without contact not to mention being hit by defensive linemen and linebackers.

I said at the beginning RG111 wasnt going to last too long in this league.
He is a tweener compared to tannehills body frame.
I know they are two different players but rg3 reminds me of Pat White wasnt he that got leveld running to the sideline.......
Tannehill is listed at 6'4'' 220, RGIII 6'2'' 222. Eventually the injuries get them all. Even big ol' Cam Newton is being hampered by nagging injuries (ankles, ribs).
The 'Pocket QB's get the injuries also (look at the Leg Armor Brady wears or Marino wore) I guess the thing is, mobility isn't a big part of their game so it doesn't hamper them as much unless it's their shoulder, etc.
There are a few who have stayed mobile over the course of a career, Elway, Young, Tarkenton, but they were 'pass first, run second' guys. I hope over the next year or so Tannehill will become that. If running keeps being such a big part of his game, he WILL eventually get hurt.

Agreed, but he isn't good in the pocket...he may become better w/experience but right now the results of trying to make him a pocket QB are going to be the same as if he gets hurt so, we're doing what we have to do.
You don't get better at being a pocket quarterback. People start playing football in pee wee and go to the pros.
Either you got a talent a particular thing or you don't.
And if there is any exception to this rule, the hardest is being a pocket passer. Harder than learning to shift to protect the QB for an off. lineman, harder than the juke and rush for a defensive lineman trying to get a sack, harder than learning the fake that a running back learns, harder than faking a def. back with your eyes that a wide receiver has to learn even harder than judging the wind as a field goal kicker must or learning the coffin corner kick that a punter must learn.
I saw a couple of good pocket passes from Tanny on TNF but his best passes still are those on the run and all of his mistakes in passing have come from the pocket.
Just accept it and live with it.
A read option QB does not automatically mean "reserve a spot for him in the wheelchair."
Next year sure Ryan is gonna have the asistance of Jerry Rice, Michael Irving, Emmitt Smith and Barry Sanders versions. He's had nothing like that in these three years in the making. No argument required there. More than clear. QB subject aside. Don't get me wrong. Nothing to do with bad play calling once in a while and wasting timeouts to assist in the victory of the other team. Talking now about facial resemblances. Do you remember Larry Coker. With the Baseball Cap on: 100% Doppelganger.
