The Miami Dolphins have signed a player away from the Philadelphia Eagles' 10-man practice squad. The player is actually a former member of the Dolphins, safety Jordan Kovacs.

Hickey hasn't let us down yet. I just wish we dumped Dion Jordon on them earlier for a 2nd rounder we could have used for a safety but that's life I guess.......

GO DOLPHINS!!!!

Wait, you better explain that before you're jumped on Treasure. You could be interpreted as saying that we should have given up Dion Jordan for a pick we could have used on a safety but you realize we just got a safety from the practice squad of Philadelphia. If so, when should we have made the trade? Last year? The year before?

We should have traded him as soon as Irlend was fired and we got an offer.he had value a year ago.now he isn't worth the practice squad player.

GO DOLPHINS!!!!

Well you can't blame the coaching staff or GM for injuries that are not there on draft day. That's like blaming them for failure to be able to see into the future.

Coaching and front office work is a piece of cake - just pick the plays that work and the players that become all-pros.

Can blame them for giving up 2 high round draft picks for a player at a position we didn't even need and how can you not know he was hurt and addicted to pain meds?

GO DOLPHINS!!!!

Well, to me "position we didn't even need" is debateable. If he was as hoped another Jason Taylor then we could always use another.

but my memory (and I'm sure holic or JSM08 will correct me if I'm wrong, is that the injury occurred after the draft and weren't the pain meds basically being used to treat the injury?

Turns out JP was right not to play him....he wasn't ready to start and certainly has not shown enough to beat out Vernon. The injury was from his college days, he had limited snaps in practice and when he did get snaps....didn't show enough to take snaps away from an up and coming player.

It blows the mind that Irlend missed the injuries when blowing our cache of draft picks......when you think about it all said and done, Jordon was STILL better at his job then Irlend. eye rolling smiley

GO DOLPHINS!!!!

As soon as I read that Jordan gained 14 pounds of muscle in the off season I was convinced that it was because of steroids. When he got popped I wasn't surprised at all.

And Treasure is spot on - We should have traded him as soon as Ireland was fired and we got an offer.

This team could have made such a better selection with the 3rd overall pick to begin with, it could have been someone who can make a contribution NOW. It makes me so sick to think about it.

As much as a disappointment Jordan has been, had we not traded up for him we would have ended up either trading up for a flop of a RT like Lane Johnson or spending the #12 pick on an under performing TE like Tyler Eifert. The first round didn't produce much of anything that year.

Who knows who we would have targeted in the second round with pick 42 but from Ireland's record, it would have been a flop.

The best case scenario for us in hindsight would have been to stay at 12 and take Sheldon Richardson, Kyle Long or Desmond Trufant and at 42 take Kiki Alonso or LeVeon Bell. Pick 54 take Travis Kelcie, TE.

I believe the rumored trade from Philly was a 2nd round pick and Brandon Graham who is turning into a quality pass rusher. That 2nd rounder (#42) could have yielded us a player like Jordan Mathews, Davante Adams, Jeremy Hill (off field issues)...not a whole lot looking great so far.

Basically a pass rusher we don't need (unless he can play Lcool smiley and still a lack of decent guards available (that we do need).

Oh well, too late now.

actually he was injured when he was drafted, as were many of the people that were drafted that year.

The rumored trade with the Eagles could of never happened due to salary cap ramifications. You could argue we should of never drafted him, but from what I remember most on this board and almost all of the national draftniks liked the pick and applauded Ireland for not playing it safe. Our best hope is that he develops into half the player most thought he would be because I still don't think we can get rid of this coming off-season due to salary cap concerns.

and I never heard there was a trade offer.

Did anyone hear the terms of this treasure dream?

Did anyone say the Eagles offered this or that?

Some "experts" even predicted Jordan to be the Rookie of the Year.
