I thought it was disrespectful. Why not keep Tanny in there to just hand off?

Also thought it was a dumb move based on this weeks topic.

You do not want your superstar qb playing when you already won the game.

Do not want the real deal injured.

Put in the scrub matt moore. doesnt matter what happens to him.

Marino got an ankle injury just moving in the pocket. Nobody even touched him.

This topic will bring my beef up--so here it is. winking smiley

Okay I get being fair and not wanting to run the score up; or risk having starters injured when the game is in your pocket.

BUT, (there it is, the BUT) we are trying to build an intensity that has to continue throughout the game--to the very end. It's not like you can cut the game short, a surrender to terminate the game after just 3 quarters by "throwing in the towel." That's not available. The game plays for 4 full quarters. My belief, right or wrong, is to finish what you've started, keep the intensity going. Call plays with the purpose of scoring, not just to run out the clock so the opponent isn't embarrassed any further.

Putting in substitutes, including Moore at QB was a nice gesture, a friendly one to the Raiders. "Okay, we know you're embarrassed, you guys stink, so rather than let your embarrassment continue, we're going to help you out and go easy by putting in our subs that will not do anything to embarrass you any further. They are unimportant and won't get any real playing time that means anything to them or us."

That tenet is understood, but one I don't care for very much. Heaven forbid we want to make the other team feel bad about themselves. That won't be very nice now, would it. smiling bouncing smiley

****************************************************

I understand keeping the pressure on (ala Jimmy Johnson with the UM); it's up to the opposing team to stop our offense, but let's do that with our backup QB, and start pulling some of the other starters.

Miami is in bad enough shape as it is with injuries and suspensions. From what I read, we lost two offensive linemen in the game, although (supposedly) nothing serious.

I didn't see the game, but was Wake pulled? If not, he should have been.

Anyway, no need to get the starting QB hurt in a meaningless series.

There are many ways to look at this. All good points.

It's Philbin. He does not have a kill instinct. It part of his playing not to lose instead of to win mentality.

GO DOLPHINS!!!!

If any starter had been hurt in garbage time, there would be no end to the Philbin bashing.

It was the right call. It also tells the starters...good job and you are too important to risk injury.

I agree with SamSam and Joe. and I'll add an additional point, how long has it been since Moore has played?

Let's even forget the good point that SamSam and Joe made about Tanny getting injured in garbage time.

There's another scenario.

What if Tanny made it through that blowout,,,the bye week comes along....and Tanny is injured in the FIRST quarter of the next game, or in the game after that.

Matt Moore needs game time experience (talking rusty of course) so let's play him in games when we CAN so that we don't have to say that the only time we played him is when we HAD TO.

SamSam--
With over 9 minutes left in the game, we were substituting defensive backs. Raiders scored a TD with Aikens at S and Taylor at CB. So, at about 8:30 left they kick off to us, and we have no one in place to field it. The balls goes into the end zone so we start at our 20. Tannehill is out and grinning from ear to ear on the sidelines and Matt Moore enters the game. His first play was a handoff to Damien Williams as was the second. Raiders are penalized and we get a first down. The clock is churning. No throws by Moore. The Raiders get the ball and one of their passes is picked off by Aikens and returned down around their 27 yd line. Moore is back in with 3:43 on the clock. Another handoff and we move the ball well but a penalty sets us back. A few more runs up the middle. Nothing. No passes tried we are inside the 20, and our runners get stuffed. Raiders do nothing, we have it and do nothing, they get it and time runs out. That's how it went. Yawn!

We've seen this scenario many times. Maybe it's "professional courtesy" to just play patty cake when things are hopeless. Anyway, we are 2-2 at the bye.

Happy to see Aikens carried no professional courtesy with that nice little pick.

I uderstand exactly what you mean. Lets call it pro courtesy yes.

The point of putting matt more is to waste time and run the ball..

I agree boring football..Joe football brought another point as well..

and so did chren...

1. If someone gets injured at garbage time philbin will be run out of town....

2. Give matt more some touches just in case.

I liked it. I was just pissed we did not let Matt Moore throw two TD's. At least kick a field goal. Be nice to see us score over 40 points every once In awhile.

Wow! I just realize that I have defended Philbin THREE TIMES recently.

1. Not being more aggressive with about 2 minutes left in the half of that game where we got the ball on our own 12 yard line.

2. In kinda letting Tannehill know that his starting job is not guaranteed.

3. Putting Matt Moore in garbage time last week.

What's the world coming to when ChyrenB defends Philbin, not once but three times in a row.

Chyren I would agree with you on Moore IF he had been allowed to pass, but lets face it turning and handing the ball off is not true game experience.

His time in the game had no true value. Tannehill coulda done all the hand offs.

absolutley I would have, then the move would have made sense. It would have given Moore some real game experience.

He has more experience then Tannehill! Tannehill is a veteran Journeyman QB . Stop pretending some huge injustice was done to him. He probably could have started elsewhere. He CHOOSE to stay right here behind Ryan for a reason.
