Is this a cruel joke?? this team gets more buzarre and stupid with each passing day. Are you seriously telling me that the best rb thats out there was daniel thomas? who at 6ft tall can fall forward and still not get two yards. ggggggggggggggggggggggggggggggooooooooooooooodddddd god we might as well pack it in now.

You know, it seems we have the same old problem. We trust the old no matter how bad and are afraid to experiment with the new.
I told you guys its psychology all over. Philbin had 25 jobs at the college level and below ALL AS AN ASSISTANT prior to being elevated to head coach. He figures that it should be the same thing for players. HE DOESN'T WANT TO PLAY ROOKIES OR NEW PLAYERS.
Dammit if he had to wait his turn, WHY SHOULDN'T EVERYONE HAVE TO???

Yeah, but with our running game having been PROVEN to be crucial as shown by the difference between the New England game and the Buffalo game, .................................
I'm not sure that you don't stick him some stiff (even from the defensive side of the team) to do the blocking on kicks rather than NOT have the best running back playing.
You don't short sell your own running game just to have a better blocker on punts.
Wasn't Thomas in the New England camp briefly? Maybe he could tell provide intel about the Pats.....who am I kidding, it's more likely he has a camera implanted behind his eyeball that is transmitting video to Foxboro.
"You never know." Daniel Thomas may surprise us. Now the guy really has something to prove. Maybe he starts running with reckless abandon. A taste of unemployment may have done wonders for him.
This second chance will test his strength of character and we may see him fighting very hard--like never before--to gain that extra yard. If his effort improves, maybe he breaks a tackle or two. Watch for the effort.

The thing is, Colonel, I've seen him do that on numerous occasions. His problem is that he doesn't do it on a consistent basis. Now, if he does start playing consistently, then Miami has that big back they need.
Captkoi--
You make a good point. He's been erratic. When does a player become "consistent?" A QB that connects for 60% of his passes may be deemed to be consistent. One that is around 50% would probably be inconsistent.
For a running back--consistent is probably related to forward yardage per carry. Thomas' average is 3.6 yards per carry for the past 3 seasons. Nothing to brag about. If he could manage that extra 1/2 yard, he'd be decent. The big question is whether he has the ability to get it.
I'm going to go out on a limb here and predict that he plays like himself and averages 30 yards a game. Sprinkle in a TD or two and hey welcome back mediocre running game!
What he gives us is an ability to run up the middle and a strong runner in short yardage and goal line. He is not a guy who is going to average 5 ypc but in all fairness, have we even given him a decent line to run behind. Certainly not last year.
2011: We had a decent left side but the right was lacking. Remember Columbo? Yikes. That is supposed to be the strong side for running. Reggie Bush was able to gain 1k but he is the elusive type back who can make something happen when there are limited holes.
2012: Same deal but with a gimpy Jake Long and Jon Martin and John Jerry on the right. Not good run blocking at all. Another Reggie year but he failed to get to 1k as the feature back.
Now here we are with what has been, so far, an inconsistent line. We are set at the tackle spot and ok at center but have guard issues.
We won't be facing another dominant d-line like last week but they will compete against one of the best big men (NT) in the business. They are without their starting 34 DE and their stud ILB, Derrick Johnson. AS long as the run away from Poe (like they did Wilfork), we will be fine.
I always thought Thomas ran hard and was decisive hitting holes. There has always been praise for Miller and disdain for Thomas but I don't get it. 3 rushing TD's in 3 years and he was the feature guy last year. He is adequate if the linemen are blowing open the LOS but he has shown little instinct as a runner, does not break tackles or elude defenders. Have you ever seen a HB as uncomfortable catching passes out of the backfield? All he does is bobble the pass and fall down.
At least Thomas is more decisive as a cut back runner and can power through arm tackles.
Everyone loves Miller and is so patient because they want to see his speed on display but he never produces long TD's. He has had a few long runs that bloat his ypc but he doesn't score and still gets caught from behind. He has been more decisive this year but he doesn't seem to be much of a "football player".
The problem with this offense is we still don't have a big play guy other than Clay and he has been invisible (or dropping passes). He is also a slow starter. He has NEVER caught a TD in the first 3 games of the season.
We need a play maker! Wallace has been emerging. I will give him that.

I like Thomas as well, as long as he is healthy and holds onto the ball he is a good powerful running back... He can break some tackles and hit some holes....

All things are subject to interpretation whichever interpretation prevails at a given time is a function of power and not truth.

Never saw much in either Daniel Thomas or Miller. I found Moreno demonstrated "running with enthusiasm and talent". Moreno is a real talent but has not demonstrated he can stay healthy. Thomas and Miller have demonstrated they are not starting-quality in the NFL. It's going to be a rough road until Moreno gets back unless someone else like Damian Williams can step up.
What do you think, JC, will I ever get rid of the Lebanese? It's like Michael Corleone (I seem to only watch Al Pacino movies) said in Godfather III, "I think I'm out and they pull me right back in again."

I couldn't agree more Joe, Lamar seemingly gets a 3 yr honeymoon but I just don't see it with this guy, I'm not saying Thomas is any better, but he's not a whole lot worse IMO. Hopefully D Williams steps up to the plate today.
