This is a moderated phorum for the CIVILIZED discussion of the Miami Dolphins. In this phorum, there are rules and moderators to make sure you abide by the rules. The moderators for this phorum are JC and Colonel.
good god look, we are taking if our draft stays the same mathews , then a cornerback, and pat white then robeskie 3rd round. then a o line 4th, and go on from there.
Good article in the Herald today about how the Trifecta has been bringing Chad Henne along the scouting visits to throw to the wide receivers. The article said that it's a six city tour. So far, they've worked out Hakeem Nicks and Brandon Tate at UNC, and Percy Harvin, Louis Murphy, and Cornelius Ingram at Florida. Sirius NFL Radio's Pat Kirwan said yesterday that Kenny Britt had participated in a private workout for the Dolphins this week. I'd assume this is part of the same scouting trip. And the really important thing about this trip is that Parcells is on it. He doesn't like to fly, and didn't even attend our road games this year. So, that he is participating tells you that WR is a VERY high priority.
So, where are the other 3 visits?
Maryland?
Ohio State?
Oklahoma?
dolfanmark thanks, I updated the post. Did you mean Foster, not Tate? (Tate didn't participate in his recent pro day due to an acl injury). Foster is banged up too, but not as severely. He worked out on his pro day.
I am VERY hyped over these personal visits by Parcells. And I read he was very impressed with Nicks.
I have added Russell Allen, a late round linebacker from San Diego State. At his pro day, other teams showed more interest than us, however the Dolphins met with him privately and he will come down to Miami in April. They did not work him out. Allen is also a long-snapper.
There are additional reports that the Dolphins were one of several teams showing interest in the below listed players. I am not adding them to the main list because I prefer to focus on who we've met, worked out, or at least shown heavy interest in. We've shown moderate interest in the following:
Dudley Guice - WR - Northwestern
Dan Skuta - DL/LB - Grand Valley State
Guice is nothing spectacular and may go undrafted, but small school standout Dan Skuta is getting a lot of attention and will probably be drafted in later rounds.
We dont need a TE this year and BETTER NOT WAIST a pick on one this year, we still have 3 solid te's and will keep two next year, then NEXT YEAR WE CAN TAKE A TE. we have more pressing issues at hand like keeping a solid O AND D LINE, LINEBACKING CORE AND ESPECIALY D BACK AND WR. so make a argument as too why it would be such a need to take a TE this year when we have DAVID MARTIN, JOEY LOGANO i think thats the rookies name?,AND ANTHONY FASANO? im sure its a safe bet that we will sign fasano to long term contract this year, and start joey after this year when we trade martin, unless martin takes a pay cut.

All 3 of our TE are only under contract through this season. It's doubtful we'd spend the money to re-sign both Martin and Fasano. Haynos is a project, nothing more. And if you want a young TE to be an impact player in 2010, then you need to draft one this season. It takes time for a young TE to learn the NFL passing game and all of his blocking responsibilities. It would be poor planning to expect a rookie TE to be an impact player, so you draft one now, break him in slowly and groom him for next season. I think we'll absolutely take a TE this year, and I think it's smart to do so.
Both Jared Cook and James Casey have a chance to be very special players. Cook's measurables (4.50 40, 6'5, 244, 41 inch vertical, 10'3 broad jump) are off the charts. This is a guy who could be a superstar. And Casey is a tremendous athlete, a former minor league baseball player. The guy caught 111 passes this year alone. And he's smart, carrying a 3.84 GPA in a triple major. He also worked out as a QB at Rice's pro day. And people may think I'm crazy, but I could see us drafting Casey and making him part of the Wildcat package.
Yes...it would be stupid to ignore TE this year. I would think that Fasano will be resigned this year but we will still need another as I doubt Martin will be back (he is 30 yrs old) unless he blows up this year which I doubt.
We will take one probably on day two (round 3)...maybe on Cornelius Ingrim who would have been a 1st round pick if not for last years injury. Shawn Nelson is another TE I like.
Have you read anything about SIP's philosophy? They are planning ahead for 2010 so our entire roster isn't wiped out in FA and so we don't put ourselves in cap hell trying to overspend for FA's.
Haynos is nothing more than a backup and ST player.
There was great interest in linebacker Brian Orakpo. While Miami recently lookd at mostly late round prospects, Orakpo is first round material. He's getting huge interest from several teams, including us. One comment I read about him is that scouts notice that because of the hot weather in that part of Texas, Orakpo may not be at full steam on some of his plays. But actually, I think it's great that we get to see a player used to those conditions, because that's exactly our weather here. It always makes me nervous when we pick a guy from a cold weather state.

once again joey haynos looked great last year in his limited roll, he is what 6'6? come on and we will sign fasano, your right but why not sign martin? i bet when we go far this year, he will take a pay cut to stay on a winning team. again unless its a 6th or 7th round, or undrafted TE, why waist it this year?

Added Maualuga and Kruger. (Finally got confirmed visit for Kruger). Russ Lande says Kruger is a slam dunk for Miami at #44. But he's getting a lot of interest from other teams too.
I wonder though, why bother with Maualuga. Would they really sacrifice picks and move up? Unlikely. And why no public interest in Laurinaitis? It seems the inside linebacker spot is a mystery. We need a serious upgrade in that position.

Laurinaitis has fallen because of a 4.8 40 and did not look good in agility drills.
Maualuga increased his 40 time from the combine by almost 2/10 of a second. JL did not.

I hope we give him a private workout. If he fails miserably, then we know the bad performances weren't a fluke. If not, he could be a steal in the 2nd round.
