Its awesome. Full control & brought some of Chips offense with him. I love it.

Gillislee has a little bit of shiftiness in him...watch some of the cuts he made in his admittedly limited carries last year.

You mean go back and look at all 6 carries. lol

Date Tm Opp Quarter Time Down ToGo Location Score Detail Yds
2013-12-01 Dolphins Jets 4 3:27 1 10 MIA 20 23-3 Mike Gillislee left tackle for 6 yards (tackle by Demario Davis and Dawan Landry) 6

2013-12-01 Dolphins Jets 4 3:18 2 4 MIA 26 23-3 Mike Gillislee left tackle for 5 yards (tackle by Damon Harrison and Demario Davis) 5

2013-12-01 Dolphins Jets 1 7:11 2 18 NYJ 28 0-0 Mike Gillislee left tackle for 5 yards (tackle by Quinton Coples and Dee Milliner) 5

2013-12-01 Dolphins Jets 4 2:29 2 11 MIA 30 23-3 Mike Gillislee up the middle for 3 yards (tackle by David Harris and Dawan Landry). Penalty on Sheldon Richardson: Delay of Game, 5 yards 3

2013-12-01 Dolphins Jets 2 3:10 2 4 NYJ 4 0-0 Mike Gillislee up the middle for 3 yards (tackle by Dee Milliner) 3

2013-12-01 Dolphins Jets 4 3:13 1 10 MIA 31 23-3 Mike Gillislee left end for -1 yards (tackle by Damon Harrison)

Might be hard to gauge anything with that 2013 line of ours.

I agree. That line made anything worthwhile on offense unobtainable. With just a second or two of more consistent blocking any one of our current RB's could be a changed player. Might be the reason for the lack of any new RB's drafted as well.

GO DOLPHINS!!!!

Were those the only six carries for the whole season, Joe? And people say I'm wrong to criticize Philbin for not playing guys enough to at least make an opinion as to what their worth. 6 carries does not qualify as satisfying that goal.

Yes, but he still made a nice cut or two in those six carries...even more in the preseason when he got considerably more carries. The point is that he seems to have more tools in his toolbox than the simple north south battering ram.

Agreed on the O-Line though.

I think you have to earn the carries and most of them were already split between the top 2 guys. Like most coaches will tell you....the snaps are earned in practice. I can't criticize Philbin for not playing a 4th string RB.

I would be surprised if MS even makes the final 53 this year.

As I said, I think you evaluate in practice. If the guy doesn't know the assignments, especially pass blocking then you don't play. There are many factors.

I don't exactly get the philosophy. You have starters and you have backups. The starters play and the backup get snaps as needed. usually when a layer goes down. This is how MG got his 6 carries vs the Jets when Thomas was injured. Sometimes you only get a small window to show what you got. He didn't show much to warrant more snaps IMO. He was ok but...

There just aren't enough snaps to play everyone. You don't play your backup guard just to get him snaps. I can't think of any team that operates that way.

Well, I guess it depends on whether the team is behind all the time for most of the season. Come to think of it.......

What you are saying, Joe, is right, but...

With the crappy OLine that Miami fielded, would it hurt to put the backups in to see what they have (as they did when the Incog/Martin fiasco happened)? The backups helped solidify the line, at least more than it was the majority of the season.

If the backups are so bad that they can't be put on the field to replace the crap that was already starting, then there was/is a problem.

I am pretty sure RT wouldn't have complained if Philbin put in a different combination to keep him off the ground.

Practice is definetely not the same as the games. Not even close.

As dumb as some people want to make Philbin out to be, it would be career suicide if Gillisee was out playing everyone in practice and he refused to play him, that's coaching 101, you play the guys that earn it in practice. Now, some guys do rise to the occasion when put in because of injury and such, but I doubt MG would of been any better then what we were rolling out week after week.

Just looking at the amount of sacks given up last year it just common sense that the biggest problem with the running game was not the RB's.

GO DOLPHINS!!!!

He gave tannehill the green light as a rookie and im satisfied with that.

Btw the problem was with the Oline and not the running backs.

But Tannehill was a QB, SamSam.

On a team in which dissatisfaction with the QB was great.

It would truly take a Stevie Wonder not to see that.

I can't say JUST BECAUSE he played Tannehill, therefore, either he will give a rookie a fighting chance or that he plays guys after he evaluates their talent BOTH IN PRACTICE AND, MORE IMPORTANTLY, IN GAMES.

I really question whether Philbin would have sat down SuperBowl Quarterback David Woodley when playing the Raiders in the Coliseum and put in that rookie Dan Marino.

Ole Wooden-headed Philflam would have said

"Let Marino work his way up the long road like I had to do in 22 assistant head coaching jobs before I BECAME HEAD COACH!"

Marino was a terrible practice player. Good thing Philbin wasn't his coach!

Practice? Practice? We're talking about practice?

JoeFootball, one thing that should be clear. I never said anything about Philbin's motive being "sticking it to" Ireland. I have never thought Philbin to be anti-Ireland. Too separate things in my mind.

Philbin just doesn't like to play non-starters.

And secondly, I just don't think you have to be up 30 points in a game in order to experiment with the benchers.

I think a good coach, a Shula, can do that in enough games so that he knows which guys are good in both practice and games, AND the guys who are good in practice and worse in games AND the guys who are good in games although not so good in practice.

There are three types of players, not only two types.

That's what must be understood.

You forgot to say he was a rookie. And you say he doesnt play rookies.

And to add to that as much as i dislike moore as a qb, he did had a very good outing at the end of the year right before tannehills rookie year.

I know he was a rookie SamSam but as a quarterback on a team desperately in need of a good QB, the timetable was different, EVEN FOR PHILBIN.

Even Philbin knew he couldn't pull his "you've got to put your time in before you can play" crap in this new era of the Quarterback driven NFL. He's stubborn but he's not insane.
