It doesn't look like O line has been neglected. It must be remembered that these are the top THREE picks and not fourth and fifth round picks.
Still our oline is crappy. Do we blame it all on Ireland and his predecessors? Or, instead, are 4th and 5th round o liners just as good as top three round oliners?
I'm sure I'll be corrected if I'm wrong but I think that Jake Long in 2008 is the only pro bowler.
If so, ought we not go somewhere else in the first round rather than o line?
Absolutely solid thinking. We need to address the Oline , first round Olineman are not always studs. Big bodies that can block are everywhere if you know what to look for. I'm hoping Hickey does. We go for best player available in the first round. I'm good with that.
Pro Bowl = Vernon Carey, Wade Smith, Jake Long, Mike Pouncey
Not that Ireland, Cammueller, Satan or Wanny should be used as benchmark drafters.
There were plenty of good lineman passed over by former Miami regimes.
One of them was our own player that they failed to identify (Wade Smith).
2002 and 2003 we had no 1st round pick. In 2002 we had no 1st or 2nd round pick. (Ricky)
2002 was a horrible year for tackles and linemen in general.
2003 wasn't much better outside of Jordan Gross at 8.
2004 we took Carey over Chris Snee, Jake Grove, Justin Smiley but there were not many highly rated linemen then either.
2005 #2 overall....would anyone really have taken Michael Roos or any other o-lineman that high?
2006 This one hurts! Jason Allen over Davin Joseph, Nick Mangold, Andrew Whitworth...the list goes on and on.
2007 passed on Joe Staley, Ben Grubbs, Justin Blaylock in favor of you Tedd Ginn! John Beck over Ryan Kalil also! Booker over marchall Yanda!
So it's not like we couldn't have fielded an all star line. The personnel people sucked. Most of the top talent at o-line comes atop the draft. Your odds increase at the very least.
This is the deepest draft in 20-30 years as some would say. We should be able to land at least one starter on the line. And we can probably do it in round 2 or 3 or later. Have to go BPA at 19! If that is o-line then so be it.
It has to be an immediate impact player and no walking wounded either.

I am completely on board for picking BPA in a position of need. Some will argue it doesn't have to be position of need, but my rebuttal would be that at 19, BPA isn't going to be a stud immediate starter (necessarily).
If that "stud" happens to drop to 19 (ala Marino at 26), then there is no doubt as to what will do. But sitting at 19 doesn't leave one with many choices.
The Miami OLine, at present, has two starters, the rest of the positions are unknowns. Hickey, of course, wants to get at least one starter from the draft. Can he do it at 19? Very possible, but if he goes in another direction, can the OL find that starter in the second round, or third round, or...?
Miami has so many damn holes it isn't funny. Even the positions that are filled are not that strong. Much talk about Pryor the safety being on Miami's radar. Why you may ask since Miami has given Jones an extension and just signed Delmas? Because Jones' play has fallen off and Delmas is an injury just waiting to happen.
I don't envy Hickey. Lots of holes to fill while being in a poor drafting position with only 6 or 7 picks.
