Look for Jordan or Wake to be traded on Draft Day..
Posted by: Aqua&Orange ()

I've been hearing strong rumors that the Phins want to move up and land Jake Matthews. Jordan's name has already been linked to some trade rumors this offseason.

Atlanta really wants Clowney, but may not be willing to give up what it takes to get him.

Watch out for the Phins giving Atlanta a DE (or maybe Minnesota, as Zimmer is a Defensive guy) to move up and land Matthews, assuming he's still on the board at that time.

First off, let me say this. I am 100% AGAINST giving up Dion Jordan to move up. I think that is a horrible idea. But, I would be willing to give up on the soon to be 33 year old.

BTW,

Whats the reasoning for this? Well maybe this will comfort you:

The Dolphins value nobody on the team more than RT17 and are willing to do whatever it takes to protect him. They believe he is a star and just needs protection.

And look at this, just got on Twitter to see this from Ian Rappaport:

"@RapSheet With a stacked Top 10, it appears unlikely #Falcons actually stay at No.6. Could move up. Also very open to moving back. Will be creative"

I'd trade wake for the 6th overall pick.

If I have to include #19 then I'll need their 2nd rounder.

&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&
Theres no way thats happening. It would take a player and the 19th pick...and probably then some.

My guess? A player, the 19th pick, and a 5th rounder to move all the way up from 19 to 6.

Anything is possible, but I would believe it more if they didn't just sign B. Albert to a decent contract. I guess they could groom Mathews at RT for a few years then dump Albert, but it seems a bit risky for a first year GM and a coach on the hot seat. We shall see.

I hear ya A&o, but Wake is a probowl DE and the best edge pass rusher in the business. He takes their defense to another level by himself for the next 3years, plus he's cost effective. What player can they draft at 6 who gives them that?

I agree that his value isn't equal to the #6 overall pick because of his age.

But is Matthews worth the best pass rusher in the league and the 19th overall pick? Nope.

They'd have to include another pick to make it work.

Frankly, I'd rather have wake and Zach martin, Morgan Moses or Xavier sua'filo over Jake Matthews. Especially when you consider that we already have a franchise LT that we are committed to for the next 3years.

I agree wholeheartedly. I don't like the idea of trading Wake. He is a proven star and gave me my only goose bumps moment last year when he wrecked Cinn. QB for a safety on Halloween.

Dion my be great one day. But he ain't now. We need Oline help. Trade him to move up? Basically trading last years move to move for this years. We lose nothing. Do it.

don't see it because it makes no sense. would be a desperation move.
A top pass rusher and team leader and our 19 pick for a rookie RT? that would be a horrible deal. there's no OL worth moving up for in the draft to that degree, I'd rather move up slightly to secure Zach Martin if we are getting desperate.
Better off sitting at 19, or trading down a little and getting Moses or Juwan so and so from Tenn.

Whos a Top pass Rusher? Dion Jordon? Havn't seen that. he's not even a respectable Pass Rusher. WAKE? No way. Guy is a proven star. he is in great shape. His age means nothing. Don't forget he didn't play in the NFL for several yrs. he has at least 3-4 solid yrs ahead of him. I wouldn't trade wake for Clowney.

GO DOLPHINS!!!!

Was referring to wake but I would be even more reluctant to trade Jordan in that deal

Jordon is going to be a good pass rusher. He showed just as much skill and athleticism as Vernon did his rookie year and a lot of folks here were bitching about Vernon's rookie year. Its called developing players.
I think he will show a lot more his second year.

If you want to trade someone make it Olivier Vernon. He will probably not sniff 10 sacks again and will probably be beaten out by Jordan anyway for weak side spot.

Cash in while he's hot. It will be another Adewale Ogunleye type move. He had 15 sacks playing opposite JT then went on to average 6 sacks per year in Chicago.

Never trade a young pass rusher unless he's entering his walk year and you don't intend to bring him back.

Pass Rushers are like Olineman and WR's... you can never have enough of them.

I don't understand why as soon as we have a good player and depth some feel the need to trade him

I don't think he's advocating trading Vernon, only that were we to trade one DE he'd trade Vernon first.

I'd trade the guy with the highest value and the least amount of time left as a Dolphin.

That requires projecting development and the ability to lock down younger guys long term, but in this instance, I'd trade Wake if I was trading one of them. He's the oldest, the highest paid, and would get the best return.

We don't have time to develop a DE when:

A) We have an elite DE and its the deepest position we have

cool smiley Our QB is getting hit like Tina Turner

Unless Jordon can play linebacker I just think he is a huge luxury this team can't afford.

That is such short sighted thinking

Hows that?

We had no business moving up for Jordon in the first place. We gave up a lot to get him. Why? To ride the pine while our Oline gave the worst performance in the History of the sport? On Top of that......We just didn't need him. It was a greedy move for a player that May or may not turn out to be a good DE.

We had 6 Picks in the first 3 rounds and we got depth at our deepest position. Really? We just can't afford to farm players for the future. We are not in a position to do that. That's for the Seahawks and the Niners. We have to protect our QB and make the playoffs first. Short sighted? Maybe so, but this Team needs to be. I want to be competitive now and not ruin our Best QB prospect since 1983.

why would we trade a pro bowl player?

Why would we trade a player we picked 3rd in the first round last year?

Wake is at the peak of his game. He is at his prime.

HMMMMM Give him to new england so he can make tannehills day a mess for two sundays.

We be nuts to part with any of them.

Wake is at the peak of his game??

2012 - Ranked #4 in sacks at 15.0 sacks
2013 - Ranked # 29 with 8.5 sacks
2014 - ????????

Are we absolutely sure we don't need a pass rusher.

TCP you gottat take time to develop your players. Tanne is developing, Vernon is developing into a good DE and Hartline was developing into a pretty good WR. I agree Jordan might have been a luxury pick but I am not throwing him under the bus after one year.

We gave up 480 points on the draft value chart to move up for Jordan. The going rate for that type of move is 1000 points....meaning we were ahead by 520 points (or the 38th overall pick). It should have cost us two, second round picks.

It's a little too soon to judge the pick IMO. More often than not, when a player gets to Wake's age, he starts getting nicked up more frequently. It started to show last year and would not surprise me to see him miss more time this year. We will be glad we have the extra pass rushers if that happens. Especially if Jordan turns out the way i think he will....as a new age type of player who can drop in coverage on a WR or RB or rush the passer.

I wouldn't disagree that we needed an o-lineman more but how much would Lane Johnson have helped our pathetic o-line last year. He struggled all year in pass pro but was good on the right side in run blocking on a VERY good line.

Luke Joeckle was terrible and then ended up on IR.

We ended up targeting a CB with our 2nd pick and I don't see anyone that went between 42 and 54 that Ireland would have targeted that would have made an impact on our team. Only a few players in those spots made an impact last year. Kiko Alonzo and Kawaan Short???. It sure seems Ireland was not targeting those positions or players. He wanted Jamar Taylor and we had already franchised Starks and signed the two FA LB's.

Sure we could have taken either of the DT's (in the first round at 12) that played well last year but obviously that was another position Ireland chose to ignore (even with our two starters in final contract years).

yes wake is the best pass rusher we have and at the peak of his game.

we have noone better.

thats why we never win.......when we develop a player we let him go for some magic beans....

Welker.

Agreed, we shouldn't trade either player. We have to start keeping our talented players while adding developmental guys through the draft.

The numbers suggest otherwise. At least for last season, Wake wasn't even the sack leader on the team. He was #2, second to Vernon. I agree with Joe that Vernon benefitted from Playing opposite Wake but, I doubt that Cameron will ever see his high sack total of 15 again.

Fine. But Dion better show some play time then this year. We desperately need linebackers , Line him up and see if he can make tackles. Any overall 3rd pick should be a starter not a "developmental anything".
