You always overpay in free agency for top talent 'holic.

But the issue here is how much ends up being guaranteed. The last bloated year or two of the deal is likely to be money they never see.

Look at the Grimes deal. 4 years 32m is 8 mill per but only 4 mill vs the cap this year.

I'm sure any LT we sign will have a deal with a similar structure.

But that's the problem, dolphaholic...there are no top tier LTs. If the guys that are out there right now are considered top tier, their own clubs would resign them, no matter the cost.

Top tier LTs are hard to come by, and if a team has one (that is injury-free) then you resign him.

^^^^ YEP ^^^^^^ That's why its so important, we need to get the best of whats available, and not second best of a lesser tier player.

GO DOLPHINS!!!!

Where does the "top tier" line divide these players and who are they?

Just as an example....

LT's...

1 Joe Thomas
2 Trent Williams
3 Jordan Gross
4 Jason Peters

5 Tyron Smith
6 Joe Staley
7 Jake Long
8 Nate Solder
9 King Dunlap
10 Eugene Monroe

The difference between 11 and 5 is not that far apart IMO and Branden Albert is somewhere around 17.
