that's the problem with this team. rather than try to adjust scheme/personnel to get the best players on the field, they just dump players on other teams and create more holes to be filled with failed draft picks. we would not get value for Jordan since I'd want a top 10 for him and there is no way that's going to happen given that he barely played last season. it's on the coaches to get their best players on the field, and if that means making Jordan or Vernon or Wake a LB, then do it.

I don't know why they don't move him to LBer. He could surely replace Wheeler and be great in coverage for the taller TE's.

Get rid of Wake? Our top player on defense?

On top of all of this, now we have to consider drafting another center because...I have a feeling Pouncey's going to get suspended.

Only if the FO is going to break Miami down and start all over.

Wake "should" bring quite a bit as far as trade value goes.

I don't see a suspension coming. All NFL locker rooms do similar things as the Fins'. I am sure Goodell is going to come up with a bunch of new rules in how to behave.

If it was ONLY Miami's locker room, then maybe a suspension.

If push comes to shove, the only "serious" punishment that could come down would be firing Turner.

Pouncey would probably get a fine.

You know we have all forgotten about Aaron Hernandez since bullygate. Pouncey may have bigger problems.

Pouncey seems to be a low character guy. Sounds like he is a follower instead of a leader. Nothing like our centers of the past Spehensen and Langer.

Pouncey also got man handled last year by some of the better DT's.

He needs to grow up a bit and worry more about football instead of doing drugs.

When Richie Incognito thinks it's a bad idea to hang out "at Pouncey's" then something is definitely wrong.

The was a report that the the subpoena served in Mass to Pouncey was a publicity stunt by the Mass prosecutor's office and nothing more. (Go figure.) I don't expect much more on that front.

I know I'm a little obsessed but....the game has changed a bit with a bigger than expected cap.

Based on a $130m cap we sit with $38,181,214 worth of space. IF the rumors are true and it goes up to $133 we are at $41,181,214.

I'm going all in if I'm JP. This also follows Truth's thought on FA linemen.

$41,181,214
+ 5,400,000 (Dimitri)
+ 4,000,000 (Matt)
___________

$50,581,000

I have a feeling at least 4 tackles will fall before we pick at 19. That includes Zach Martin.

Sign these free agents

LT: Eugene Monroe, 8.5m
LG: Geoff Schwartz, 3.5m (can also play RT)
RG: Jon Asomah, 3m
RT: Roger Saffold, 5m (can also play G)

FS: Jairus Byrd, 7m
CB: Brent Grimes, 7m
NT: Tony McDaniel, 3m

That's 37m and we still have 13.58m remaining to fill out the roster and sign rookies.

I am going into the draft and coming out of the first 3 rounds with a LB'er, RB and TE out of these players....

LB'ers: CJ Mosley, Ryan Shazier, Chris Borland
RB: Carlos Hyde, Jeremy Hill, Bishop Sankey, Andre Williams, Tre Mason
TE: Eric Ebron, Austin Seferian-Jenkins

This puts all our RB's and LB'ers on notice.

Can you say playoffs?

Ravens gave up a 4th and 5th round picks for Monroe. I believe they will go all in for him. Another Raven I think we should look at is D/E Authur Jones guy has a huge motor and not much tread on the tire
since he sat most if his first 2 seasons.

so our CBs would be Grimes, Taylor, and Davis? That's got disaster written all over it. Plus in your scenario we lose both Starks and Solia--and McDaniels is not a NT and you don't have anyone else to replace them.
Also I don't think the cap works the way you assume. Even if your numbers are correct for 2014, what happens in 2015 when you've got to pay the roster, the numbers have to make sense for subsequent years too. Way too much $$ in the OL signing all those FAs--what happens when we have to pay RT next year?

A 2nd and 3rd round pick. Taylor was injured last year but was highly ranked coming out of the draft. He'll have an entire off-season to get healthy and learn the scheme. Davis was ahead of him last year and showed play making ability. YES...the 2013 rookie class will need to step up. We cannot just carry them on the roster and not get anything for them. Besides in that scenario, we have around 14 mil (or 8 mil after rookies) remaining to sign players like Carrol or resign Patterson??? We also have Chris Owens on the roster. He has had success and was a highly touted FA a few years back.

Plus in

McD played the LDT or NT spot last year for Seattle and was a MONSTER against the run. It was his biggest strength. He was actually the 4th ranked DT vs the run last year. Ahead of Starks AND way ahead of Soliai. The plan is to move on from aging players and not spending valuable cap space on them. We also have the entire draft to find players that I didn't mention.

The cap is something you have to manage year after year and make adjustments. The salaries for those linemen were all based on yearly averages. Not fluff like Miami did last year with paying Wallace 3 mil in 2013 and 17 mil in 2014! It works but you have to continue to find players in the draft just like any successful team.

21-22 mil for 5 players (4.4 avg) is not a huge amount out or the ordinary. Philly just signed two players for 17 mil (8.5 average).

Tannehill is under contract for two more years but there are decisions that will have to be made next year. Odrick, Clay, Pouncey will be FA's.

We also will be chiseling away at Wallace's guaranteed money and will have options there to save huge chunks.

It's also why you roll unused space over and don't overextend yourself in any given year.

Like I said, this assumes you find 3, 4 or 5 players in this years draft that can start over the next two years. You will never be successful if that doesn't happen.

Frankly, the Byrd signing is a luxury and probably over the top when we could sign Clemons for half the price.

Baltimore wanted to resign Ellerbe last year but could not afford him due to limited cap space. This year they have over 22mil left after signing Pitta to a new deal AND they are losing Daryl Smith to FA. They basically have no ILB's.

Ellerbe was obviously better in their 3-4.

It would be so nice if we could trade him back to Baltimore. The only problem is Miami back loaded his contract and we only took 2.4 mil off the cap last year. He is due 7.4 mil this year. Not bad for a quality starter (if he were in a Baltimore 3-4) but I have a feeling either he or Wheeler will be special team players this year in Miami unless they really get their crap together.
