I didn't say that. I just said saying this dolphin regime is worse than Matt Millen was in Detroit is hyperbole.

I'm not in favor of keeping Ireland. He deserves to go. The issue is what I said it would be last year when I said Ireland should get an extension: The issue is Philbin.

barring anything explosive from the bullygate crap, then as I said in another thread: I agree with Bill Polian that the staff did a good job getting 8 wins out of a team with the worst pass blocking and one of the 5 worst run blocking olines in the league. In fact, getting 8 wins out of a team with an Oline THAT poor was a fairly neat trick.

So I'm not sure I want to unload Philbin, but if I replace Ireland then I have to give the new GM the ability to fire Philbin and hire his guy. Which is what he's likely to do.

I'm kind of indifferent at this point. If he cleans house, I get it. If he gives them all 1 more year, I won't love it...especially if Sherman is back, but I'll live with it based on the idea that its playoffs or bust next year.

As for Ross, I have no issues with him taking his time to make a decision like this.

Its easy to lash out like a fan when you are angry or frustrated. But it takes real leadership to step back, go through a process and try to make the right decision, not just the easy decision.

He should go through his process. Speak with his staff and whomever he trusts on issues like this. Then wait for the NFL report on bullygate to come out before he makes ANY statements or decisions.

I know fans want blood yesterday, but you can't let emotions get in the way of running a business.

Ross owes it to us...the fans, to do due diligence in finding out what went wrong and what the plan is for fixing it. Knee jerk reactions like firing folks because he is upset over the outcome of a season where MANY, MANY issues, on many levels occurred would be doing US a disservice.

Ross also owes the current staff that luxury as well...because if he didn't think they were the right people for the jobs, then he wouldn't have hired them in the first place.

That said, if I was in charge Sherman would be gone...the only reason he isn't already IMHO, is that neither ross nor ireland can fire him. That decision is the sole provence of philbin according to his contract.

RESPONSE: I think bullygate should be separated from any need for change of personnel issues unless some coach or general manager assigned Wake or Richie to "toughen up" Martin.

But on the other hand, you can't drag your feet either because there is a stampede on for getting the best talent out there available and that includes GMs as well as coaches.

and like I said in another post, we dicked around with firing Sparano for so long that it cost us a better coach.

is there another organization in pro sports that would wait till the bullygate report came out before deciding what to do? I mean are they so clueless about their own team that they don't have all of the necessary info to act now, or not act as the case may be? we've had 6 years of Ireland's moves and 2 years of sherman's horrible play calling and philbin's whatever philbin does. if ross looks around and sees what he likes, he's an idiot, but at least he can make up his own mind and not wait 5 weeks for a report on who snapped towels on martin's doughy ass

Well for one, they don't know Martin's side of the story since the NFL asked Ross not to meet with him.

So yes, the prudent thing would be to wait the extra week or two for the NFL to issue its findings. He doesn't look foolish taking the time to debrief the players/coaches and then to discuss that with his advisers. That's how he should do it.

He'd really look foolish if he acted to quickly and announced someone was returning that he then had to cut loose due to the investigation.

Ross's decision IMO will come down to trust, and who fits his vision for the team going forward from the recent embarrassments. It won't simply be "blame" for the last two losses.

First, it is not a week or 2. It is by all accounts not till after the SB. That's about 1 month and if changes are to be made, that will be too late to hire any replacements.

Second, what could possibly be in that report that is relevant to firing Ireland, Philbin or replacing the OC? Those should be football decisions---at least with the OC and GM, who I doubt had any direct role in how the locker room was run, and Ross should have enough info (without waiting for cry baby lawyer-ed up Martin's side) to make the call anyway.

This is emblamatic of the main problem with this organization. it is passive and reactive. The team never gets ahead of a problem but waits till it is almost too late to do anything about it.

finally, I think the NFL asked Ross not to meet with martin till after Wells spoke to him. Not to meet with him at all. So Ross was within his rights to talk to him and I assume he either tried or Martin refused to speak to him. Either way that is telling and does not excuse waiting for the Wells report to decide the fate of our football operations.

All,

I would encourage you to treat today's blog entry by Armando Salguero with a grain of salt. He doesn't know what went down yesterday, and is engaging in mere speculation; he uses very clever language, like "What it seems might have happened".

He doesn't know. No one does at the moment.

I agree Chris.

I think the issue with Philbin is wheterh or not he has he shown Ross behind the scenes what Ross needs to see in order to believe in him as the long term solution at HC. Its not about the results this year. Its about whether or not Ross still believes he is the guy.

If Ross doesn't then its an easy call. Everyone is out. Cleveland dumped Chudzinski after 1 year because after seeing him in action they no longer felt he was the answer to their problems.

If Ross does decide to keep Philbin then it makes it harder to dump Ireland because of the dysfunction inherent in trying to find a GM who likes Philbin, instead of a GM who is the best candidate.

It also makes it harder to force Philbin to cut ties with Sherman because you either trust Philbin or you don't. If you trust him enough to keep him as HC how do you then tell him "I don't trust your judgement on your choice for OC? He needs to go."

Local media stakeout has returned to Davie. No sign of Ross yet, at least via his helicopter.

Great question.

Accuracy/Inside Scoop: Barry Jackson (Herald)...he's not the "beat writer" per se, but what he reports is almost always dead on. Very well connected. His Florida Sports Buzz column is a must read.

Up and comer: Andrew Abramson (Post). The more I read, the more I am impressed. Hard working, and he's innovative too (uses Google Glass a lot). Was able to get to Jeff Ireland this morning, though Ireland declined comment.

at this point it seems quite unlikely that Irealnd is going to be let go (Philbin was always safe, IMO). If Ross doesn't know at this point that he stinks, he never will know, so this delay means settle in for another year of Jeffy, and wasted drafts, and mediocrity.

I have a hunch that if Ireland survives this year, he'll be around for a few more, the O-line will be better next year.....simply because it cant be any worse, and I think the 2013 draft class will produce more.......simply because it cant produce any lessspinning smiley sticking its tongue out, mix in a little improvement from RT17 and the offense and we go from 8-8 to 10-6 and a playoff appearance

Sam, I think his point was that if Ireland survives to next year he will get an extension because we will be pretty good next year. We won't be mediocre anymore.

If we are mediocre next year, they will all be gone.

Excuse me, holic, but although you didn't intend it, that was a coffee spitter for me!

You realize of course that if we had just beaten LIKE WE WERE SUPPOSED TO BY EVERY EXPERT the Bills and the Jets, we would have been 10-6 AND GONE to the playoffs, THIS YEAR!!

......without the improvements you mention.

How does anybody figure we are going to be pretty good next year?

We were supposed to be good this year and look what happened.

I hope we do not have to endure another year with ireland.

Yeah I know, that's exactly my point, we should of been 10-6 or better this year, and everybody would be saying Jeff Ireland was the best young GM out there smoking smiley, instead we went 8-8 and we all want heads on a stick (myself included). If Ireland survives and we go 9-7/10-6 with a playoff appearance next year (with said improvements), he's as good as golden for AT LEAST another season.

Sam, we went 8-8 with one of the worst O-lines ever, no run game to speak of, bad game plans/play calling and bad run defense. Improve 2 of those 4 and we win at least 2 more games. Thats not even factoring in the expected improvement from RT17 going into his 3rd full off-season or the hope that last years draft class contributes anything at all.
The one good thing about having such a bad O-line is, is that it HAS to improve because it cant get any worse. Improved O-line play probably gives us two wins alone this year.
