My honest prediction for the next staff...

Philbin will be retained.

Scott Pioli will be the new GM and Gary Kubiak will be the OC.

I hate that. But its the most likely scenario.

I could live w/ that. I do think Philbin will be pressured to fire both of his coordinators.

Coyle will stay, although he should be fired.

His unit gave up almost 2,000 yards rushing. He had a lot of talent on his side, and underwhelmed all year.

I thought the DL played well, the LB's sucked, and the DB's played well.

Pioli was as bad or worse than Ireland at drafting when he was in KC.

How about Rob Chudzinski for OC and Scot McGloughan for GM?

DLine played very well. We need a stronger mlb & move Ellerbe to the outside. I do have problems when our safties don't get ints makes me wonder if we are winning the chess game. Is our dc outwitting the opposition by having his player's where they are not expected resulting in turnovers.

I think Jordan is special, fans were bitching about Olivier's production last year now they are raving about him. I hope we keep both Starks and Soliaia(sp). Cleamons can walk as far as I am concerned.

Our defense is not bad we need to attack and be more aggressive.

Clemons was, by far, our best safety this year! I'd get rid of Rashad Jones and keep Clemons.

I want more turnovers from the safety position. They are adequate but I want more ...

I would bring in Schwartz, whos been sacked,or Chudzinski for OC.
I would have a sit down with Coyle and ask why the defence was a top 5 unit when he came in and now its in the twenties and see what "reasons" he has for this before deciding his fate.

You would have to ask Ireland that question but we all know the answer. Failed FA aquisitions at LB'er. We should have improved but we stayed the same. We got better in some areas and worse in others.

I don't believe we were a top 5 unit last year.

The defense was 7th in points allowed last year and 7th this year. We were good to start the season but did not finish well and dropped in the yardage category.

We were 21st last year in yards allowed and ironically, 21st this year.

We were 24th in rushing yards allowed this year and 13th last year.

We were 27th in yards passing last year and 16th this year.

Had we not regressed in run defense, we very well may have been a top 5 unit. With the improved play of Vernon, Odrick, Starks and Shelby, we probably could have ranked in the top 7 rush defenses...IF we did not make a change at LB.

It would have also been nice to get some help from the 2013 draft class!

We played crappy teams with no WR's and played them 8 yards off the line of scrimmage. We shoulda been putting 8 in the box to stuff the run and make the QB beat us. Instead we played soft and got beat.

I didn't watch the game because I didn't want to see the barf -- but MAN your post makes absolute sense. And it's hard to figure WHY our DC mastermind couldn't figure something like that out!

Wow. That's pretty sad.

all offseason we heard how we'd have an attacking d and a fast paced offense.

we saw none of that.

you're right about being passive on d. teams licked their chops to play our oline. we let opponents dictate what they were going to do to our d.

if philbin is instructed to fire his oc and dc and hesitates he should be shown the door also.

the problem is skippy Ireland. if he somehow makes it through all of this we're going to be scraping the bottom of the barrel for the next hc.

funny -- I was thinking about the fast-paced game last night wondering about the same thing. All the time we spent in TC racing around at hyper speed sure paid BIG DIVIDENDS during the season.

Not!

Philbin is a weird bird. And maybe he's just to quirky and "Professor Plumish" to be a legit N F L HC.

Need new coaches across the board. I would keep Ireland, because he has the ability to keep the team in tact make a couple moves in the draft and F/A to get this team to elite status this off-season. Problem is as we have seen this year, that all the talent in the world does not mean anything, unless you have the coaching power to put it all together.

he's had 6 years. he's done enough damage. how can you have seen enough in 2 years with philbin but think, after 6 years, Ireland is suddenly going to figure it out?

that makes zero sense.

Not sure about Coyle. His D gave up way too much yardage, both on the ground and in the air, but his two ILBers didn't do very well, and that is on Ireland. Had a lot of problems/injuries in the defensive backfield, also.

this is so typical of excuses for Ireland. Pat White and Pat Turner were Parcells fault. Our crappy slow team was Parcells fault b/c BP wanted a crappy slow team. Dumping our 2 starting LBs and giving big $$ to unproven flashes in the pan was Philbin's fault.
What, exactly, is Ireland's job as GM if decisions are never "his fault"?

Tho I cannot divest Ireland of all responsibility I do agree with A&O in principal about the dudes we targeted in FA -- and the decisions the staff made in also letting certain players go…

This is precisely what I've been talking about in a number of threads for months -- it's a collaborative process between HC and GM to put the pieces in place that make the team a winning package.

Obviously Philbin's overall schematic was (is) radically different than Project Big. And I was critical for cutting certain players loose (i.e., Bess etc.) just because that don't fit "spec." To me -- that kind on formula driven mind set is precisely why Project Big was a failure. You've got to be able to adapt your "system" to the talent that's available. Classic example -- Zach Thomas.

Great coaches can leverage the talents they have available and create a winning combination. I see ZERO evidence that Philbin has that kind of talent.

Josh McDaniels. Cleavland wants to interview him. I would love to have him as our OC, hell even as our HC. I know it didn't work out in Denver but with Tebow I mean that circus, he took them to playoffs and his first HC gig. Elway @#$%& him over. Would love him here. He would do wonders for Tanny. Brady praises him non stop.

no he was not coach when tebow took them to the playoffs. but he was coach when that team was a circus including a mini-spy gate spearheaded by your boy josh

It's Ireland's job to fight the right players for the coordinators scheme. Coyle may have said that he needed better pass rush from the LBer's but there is absolutely 100% NO evidence that the coaches scouted Ellerbe and Wheeler. Ireland was just plain wrong in his evaluation.

If the coaches don't even know how to put the best players on the field when they are sitting on the bench or not even signed but are out there without a job at all and perform better than the people they have on the field (example the scrubs performed better on the off. line than Martin and Igcognito), I don't see why one can blame Ireland.

And you have to remember that the GM just doesn't go out and get talent WITHOUT CONSULTATION WITH THE COACHES, come on!

You guys have a WEIRD outlook on the responsibility of the hired staff.

To you:

All the GM does is get players and he does so based solely on his evaluation of talent without even getting any input from the head or assistant coaches or even the owner when it is the number 1 pick in the draft and there are character issues.

All the Head Coach does is watch the practices. He has no say in player acquisition, that's the GM. He has no say in playcalling cause according to the way you guys think that is the SOLE PROVINCE of the offensive coordinator, even in game deciding situations
and the same for him not having any say in defensive schemes, even on crucial plays or when the other teams have been consistently passing too successfully on us or running too successfully on us.

You guys believe that everything that happens on the offense is the SOLE responsibility of the OC and the Same for what happens on Defense being the responsibility of the DC and the same goes for the special teams coordinator.

Folks, the Head Coach has a say, and perhaps in crucial situations HE HAS THE DECIDING SAY, in all those situations.

So as much as I have criticized Ireland myself during the off season, it is just downright silly for you guys to try to dump all your frustrations on Ireland and Sherman AND NEGLECT THE BIGGEST PROBLEM OF ALL and that is Philbin, the Head coach.
