We need the $$ to keep this team together -- so its good we have some latitude. If I recall the following years tell a slightly different story, right? We have a lot of dollar$ rolling into 15 and 16...

Theres going to have to be real structure in our cap, if RT17 keeps developing, and turns into a elite QB... you are looking at a $100 million dollar deal for Ryan.

Agreed, but not at huge money.

He may never play again. His injury was that severe. I think I'd look elsewhere for an every down TE.

True. But he won't come cheap either. Might have to replace him in the draft.

If we bring back Grimes, then Carroll or Patterson is gone. Davis and Taylor will be cheaper options who will be pushing for starters minutes at that point.

Need to re-sign him or starks and draft a DT.

Needs to be at back up money.

Pass. he's a horrible fit for a zone blocking scheme. Decent pass protector who can't get to the second level to block in the running game.

Yep, I would be looking for Byrd at safty, let Carroll walk, resign Grimes and Patterson. Resign Solai, draft NT, middle line backer and offensive guards and tackles in draft. Also sign Monroe in F/A.

I would keep those integral to our success and let go of underachievers.

Resign....

Paul Solia: He has roots here and kids in school and does not want to leave. Resign to a slight decrease around 2 years/10 mil (2 mil decrease). Cap hit of around 3.5 in 2014. Cap hit was 7.4 this year.

Randy Starks: He is one of the best DT's this year but picked his game up in a contract year. Cannot overspend. offer 3 years, 19 mil. Cap hit of around 4.5 in 2014.

Brent Grimes: The guy wants a long term deal and will go to whoever wants him most. I would offer a market contract in the range of 3 years/20 mil. Cap hit 5 mil in 2014.

Nolan Carroll: Stepped up this year when called on. He is not upper tier but I would offer a short term, mid-range deal.

Restructure:

Dimitri Patterson and possibly Mike Wallace. MW has a 17 mil cap hit in 2014.

Wait and see: (what the market dictates for available FA's and contracts) for....

Tyson Clabo, Chris Clemons, McKinnie, Keller

We should upgrade these players but not eliminate the possibility if we cannot.

John Jerry: No contract offer

That leaves around 16 mil in cap space.

Sign Eugene Monroe to play LT and go after a guard like Wharton or Slausen.

In the top 3 rounds, draft a RT, RG and LB to displace one of our 2 underachieving LB's. Resign Clabo for insurance.

Well not bad Eesti. I'm on the fence about Clabo. Deft need better Lbers also Jarius Byrd over Clemmons in my book.

I would not mind but a NT or DT is going to have to be one hell of a player to start here. Star Lotu would have been a great player last year but getting one in the 20's would be tough. We would still have to resign Starks or Soliai.

I have a feeling Ireland is going to let Starks walk, resign Soliai and put Odrick in the 3-tech spot. Then he can draft one mid round and sign a vet to take over right away on passing downs.

Ryan Tannehill average salary: 3.1 mil per year
Dion Jordan average salary: 5.1 mil per year

That's quite a jump in pay for being picked 5 spots earlier! At least one of them is earning it.

can't see resigning tyson clabo at any cost
next year I see at least 3 OL starters not currently on the team. I think we can salvage a G spot with Brenner or Garner, obviously Pouncy stays, we need a new RT and LG and we can survive another season with McKinnie at LT (maybe) but we need some new blood at the T spot there too.
in a few years we need to shell out major bucks for Pouncy and RT so our cap shape isn't as good as it appears at first blush

McKinnie is a FA. Only lineman playing better than Clabo right now is Pouncey.

Our salary cap is in good shape because we're not paying a QB half of it (as others have said also), hopefully RT17 keeps progressing into that upper echelon to warrant a big raise, we need to start getting huge contributions from draft picks and stop paying big bucks to FA's for this to work. I would hope we don't make a big splash in FA this year, maybe an O-lineman or two, but this big spending has to stop or we'll be hurting when RT cashes in.
