Why are we 4-5? Here are my top 3 reasons.

Problem 1. Offensive line. It is the most offensive offensive line I have ever seen. The pass blocking is horrendous. The run blocking may be even worse. We averaged about 5 ipc against the Buccaneers. For those wondering that is 5 INCHES per carry!!! Ridiculous. We don't have a HOF caliber RB, but these guys are good enough to average over 4 yard per carry.

Problem 2. Our linebackers. This bothers me the most, because I really thought we had upgraded in this department. These new guys are fast, but they take horrible angles and are below average tacklers. Our defense got gouged by a bunch of backup RBs on one of the 3 worst teams in the NFL. Our LBs consistently missed tackles and were out of position.

Problem 3. Offensive play calling. Predictable and at times just plain dumb. The 5-yard handoff that resulted in a safety at a time when the defense was getting consistent penetration up the middle was beyond stupid.


The Incognito-Martin fiasco, the losses of Gibson and Keller, and the inexperience of our QB are additional factors.

I have to say that I have come around to the notion that we have to clean house starting at the top (Ireland) and working all the way down the chain of command (position coaches). We need a complete management/coaching overhaul. We need to bring in people that can evaluate, teach and manage NFL players. I don't think we have that today. If we did, problems 1, 2 and 3 would not exist.
