I know that a lot of you didn't like Fiedler, some even hated him, but he had IT, he just didn't have the tools to make anything of IT. If T-hill, with all his tools, had Fiedler's heart and fire, we'd really have something.

Fair enough, but he found a way to win....along with one of the best defenses helped too.

That's how I remember it…he injured his thumb on a defender's helmet and could never throw the same afterward.
He was not great, but he was intelligent and could lead offensive drives. I'll never forget when he ran that winning touchdown against the Raiders. Fiedler played with heart and posted a fair number of wins for us.
hooligan, true but I blame Wanny more than anything for us not getting into the playoffs that season. wanny single handedly destroyed this franchise and I'll never forgive him that

I've though t about this before. Say what you want Fiedler had leadership, smarts and guts...just no arm. Kind of like Matt Moore, he was fine until EVERYBODY in the stadium KNEW he had to throw it.

Everybody is downing our recent past AFTER Marino from the coaches like Wanny Sparano, Cameron and the quarterbacks like Fiedler, etc.
DON'T BE SO FU*KING CRITICAL, we are probably IN THE WORST PERIOD OF OUR FRANCHISE right NOW!!!!!
I don't include Tanny in that but almost every other element of the team ESPECIALLY THE HEAD COACH!!!!!

I will include TANNY AND THE REST. I really don't see how an objective person can make a reasonable, results based argument that ANYTHING we have right now is much better than it has been in the last 10-12 years. Ugh.
What the hell did we win w/ Fielder. Give me Tanne over Fielder any freaking day. Fiedler is the most overrated player in Dolphin history.
Losing makes some fans say idiotic things.
What the hell we were not winning shit in those days either. I would not trade these years to back to the JJ Wanny years. Stop the madness. Go look at the drafts from 1998-2001 they sucked! At least Ireland gets some players. We use to get 1 or 2 players out of an entire draft.

Uh...the AFC East Championship in 2000 and the last playoff win we have had the same year. I wouldn't say he was 'over rated' because I really don't think he's 'rated' at all, but his first couple of years we did make the playoffs and actually WON a playoff game.
Come to think of it we have made the playoffs three times since Marino lefat and each time we have had a cast-off Jet QB at the helm...wonder if Sanchez is available?

Your quote is noted and the shoe is in my mouth. I still disliked Fiedler and always thought how further we could go if we did not have someone elses third string qb under center back in those times.
If you think our franchise, offensive line, coaching, playcalling is any better, if not worse than previous regimes, you are delusional. I make an exception for Tanny because I don't think the coaching is utilizing his skill sets properly.

No argument from me there bro. Fiedler was the first in a long line of journeymen, retreads and projects meant by one narcissistic coach or the other to 'prove' HE didn't need a great QB to win. I had high hopes for Tanny but I just don't see the personal OR team improvement you would expect from a true franchise level guy. It's just frustrating as h3ll.

I'm only commenting on the above to say that if you think Philbin does not fit that category then you are sorely mistaken. Not that Tanny is great or not great but Foolbin thinks he is great enough that regardless of the QB, OL, or their performance, he doesn't need them to win or to play in a different way than he designs in order to win.

Agree about the state of the franchise but I INCLUDE Tannehill because after all he WAS a first round draft pick and, while the coaches may be stifling his mobility, I seriously doubt they are telling him "Lock on to receivers, miss wide open guys, take sack after sack, and oh yea, turn the ball over a few times if you can..." He's is just not showing the improvement one would expect from a second year guy who is 'the answer'...My opinion of course.

Chyren, somewhere you have mis-interpreted me (or maybe I mis-typed) but I was AGREEING with you about the state of the franchise, coaching, etc...
Hindsight is BS but I really liked the way the old coaching staff had the team playing after Sporano was fired. My only question was could Knowles handle the HC position. Daboll and Mike Nolan were capable coordinators.
Philbin is a corporate clone -- that's why Ross was so impressed with him... He's a prime example of the non-creative mindset that dictates the incessant recycled ass crap to the masses...
And precisely WHY a legit HC ain't never gonna pitch tent in Dolphin cap as long as Ross is calling the shots...
It starts at the TOP and trickles down -- like Reaganomics.
