It looked to me that Mathews got 2 feet down on that critical 3rd down.
It looked close enough to challenge anyway!!
That was a HUGE moment in the game and it was worth the risk!
Terrible missed opportunity to get a replay reversal, and continue a crucial drive.
Bad marks to Philbin and the the coaching staff on that one!
yeah that was a huge play. Coaching moves like that demoralize teams and make it look like they have given up. Did nobody with a review call down? Philbin showing some early signs of Sparanoitus
I wouldn't challenge anything the way the refs were calling the game. TWICE, Phil Simms called out the officials for making terrible calls and that did not even include the ridiclulous bad call when Vernon was flagged for trying to recover a fumble. Terrible, terrible (lack of) judgement call!

I know Philbin is the HC, but can we place the blame on him for not challenging?
I saw him reaching for the flag, and I believe he was waiting for something to come down from upstairs telling him that it would be worth a shot.
I am guessing nothing came down and he decided to drop the issue.
But, I agree, in that the play should have been challenged as it looked, to me, like Mathews got both feet in bounds.
I think the reason you challenge is because the guys in the booth don't have as much loyalty to the refs on the field as the refs on the field have to each other.
Anyway, what the Hay. But I really don't remember that play.
