Real life always puts silly stuff, like arguing over whether you settle for a 50 yard FG attempt to force OT or try to win a game with 1min left, into its proper perspective.
Berk was probably wondering if it was bad times for you because of the loss of your friend or because of all the extra work put on you.
To quote a line from the last Indiana Jones movie," There comes a time when life stops giving and starts taking away."
Some of the older guys here know what I'm talking about. All of a sudden you start losing some of your long time drinking buddies, guys you went to school with and your Parents.
It can't be avoided except by dying first and that, is not an option.
