As an exercise in how different people perceive the same thing differently, I'm curious to find out which QB leaps to mind, or tugs at your memory, when you see Tannehill move around in the pocket and throw the football?
I'm curious to see how many people see what I see, not that there is a correct answer.
I know Omar Kelly has compared him to Jake Plummer. I suppose there are some similarities there but I keep thinking of someone else when I watch him.
I definitely don't see Dan Marino ! Dan Marino was not an athlete, he was laterally challenged to put it best. So he concentrated on just getting rid of the football as fast as he could.
Ryan has a much broader skill set so its taking a bit more time to narrow it all out. Right now he is more of a Jack of all trades and master of none so to speak.

Take the running ability out of the equation. I'm talking about as a passer: how he moves around in the pocket, his footwork, his body language and how he delivers the ball. Who does he LOOK like back there. Not who does he PLAY like.
With his size, stature and throwing style, he reminds me of Brady... They both also tend to put their head down and look down when the pocket collapses...

Hmmm. I don't really see a namesake comparison for him yet. He exhibits traits of several QBs but can't say for sure who he is most like without appearing daft. Okay here goes.
RT holds the ball too long. As I recall Bart Starr did that too but had a better team around him, so Starr had better results from doing it.
His size, body language, his arm strength, where he holds the ball when he's setting up, his occasionally slightly 3/4 throwing motion, his lack of excellent footwork all make me think of Drew Bledsoe.
He's far more athletic than Bledsoe, and I think he's smarter, but that is who he reminds me of when he's in the pocket setting up to throw.

Brees, really? I dont remotely see that... There is about a 5 inch difference in their height? So I dont get how he reminds you of him in size.... Pretty weird exercise, everyone saw it completely different so far...lol... I guess it is all in the eye of the beholder....

Bledsoe, I got ya... I havent watch clips of that guy throw in years... But I can see where you are coming from... I think RT is more athletic then Bledsoe... But height and stature and throwing style make sense...
It was funny, I am always bothered when RT puts his head down when the rush gets on him, and then I watched Brady do the same thing last week against the Saints... I chuckled to myself, thinking well I guess I cant be to hard on RT for doing that when HOFer Brady does the exact same thing... Most of the time when a QB takes his eyes from downfield and focuses on what is right in front of him, it is bad news... He is better off keeping the head up, trying to make a play up until the end...

Man Old Bledsoe could really throw that deep ball. I thought the Pats were nuts when they traded him to a division rival and kept a 6th round draft choice. That was pretty ballsy and I guess you can say it paid off just a bit........
3) Sometimes misses wide open receivers because of #2 above
4) Has mobility that's underutilized
5) Takes a lot of sacks because of #1 & #4 above
I'm not comparing throwing mechanics or physical stature, just characteristics/play similarities.
I think that RT still has a higher ceiling to reach, so I'm hoping he develops further & doesn't end up being a backup QB like JC did after not growing out of the above mentioned play habits.
I was thinking Drew Bledsoe at one point but he is a little stiffer and couldn't run to save his life although he does have 764 rushing yards (compared to Marino's 87). They do both get sacked a lot as well.
pretty good comparison though. If only we could get the 4555 yards in year 2. Not the 25/27 int rate.
Bledso-much was sacked 55 times in 99 and 2.5 times per game on average for his career. More than 40 times in 5 seasons.
so what's the answer truth, are you saying her reminds you of drew bledsoe? bc I don't see that at all. Bledso was unatheltic and immobile.
I don't really see any comparison to anyone, frankly. There really has been no QB with all the "tools" like RT but so little experience playing the position before playing in the pros. The things RT is bad at are things that unfortunately come only instincively and from playing the position your whole life, like pocket presence and knowing subconsciously when to throw, where to step up, etc.

He was referring to how the QB's look IN the pocket, throwing motion etc.

Bledsoe reminds me nothing of RT in the pocket. In fact there are few QBs I'd say he seems less like. He may get sacked a ton, but RT does move around back there (except when a DT has him about the same time as the ball is snapped). Drew Bled was a statute and had a big overhand throwing motion (RT isn't like that)
