We have a veteran O-line (other than Martin) with players that have proven themselves in other places, what in the hell is going on with these guys? Is it that theses guys don't really fit the zone blocking scheme or are they just getting old?

Tannehill has to develop a better pocket awareness, that's a given, but honestly some of those sacks, he's getting bowled over by multiple defenders and he has no room to scramble, you watch other QB's get out of trouble and there's usually a lane for that QB to escape, that hasn't really been the case with us, even Pouncey has been getting beat and he's our best O-lineman, honestly, Martin is doing no worse than the other 4. Rolling RT17 (A&O) out every down is not really an option either, when you do that, you cut off half the field, it's OK to do that once in a while, but not every down. Does anyone have an answer or a guess as to why these guys are playing so bad? D-mark, you still around here?

Whats wrong is they are not a good unit.

Clabo hasn't played well. Some of that is age, some is the new system. He'll get better as the year goes along.

Incognito is out of position at LG and should be at RG.

Martin is in his 2nd year and 1st year at LT.

Add to that we have no RB's that can bock and our TE's pass blocking is even worse and there are going to be breakdowns.

We need a legit LG so Incognito can move to RG and we need an upgrade at RT.


But if guys like Sims and Thomas are going to whiff on blitz pickups then RT is going to get hit...a lot.

I'll bet dolphaholic will be mad at the person who started this thread for being so negative about the team like Omar Kelley and.....ooops.

Better get it fixed because NOLA is playing lights out right now and generating LOTS of pressure in Rob Ryan's new defense.

Jerry is no dog. In the Atl game he pushed his man back more consistently on the run than Pouncey or Incog. We saw the line go to hell when he was out during the pre season. He is a convenient target. Individually I think Pouncey is good but sometimes I wonder how good is he calling out defense. I think he and Incog get lucky once or twice a game and get their assigments correct and pop off a big run. Same for the right side. In the CLEV game Dez Bryant got the best of Martin and Incog. Not sure what the problem is so I cannot offer a solution.

I think pass blocking will improve. Martin is progressing and Tanne will speed up getting the ball out of his hands. I think I read where the coaches blamed 2 of the sacks on themselves w/ the playcalling. Run blocking just not sure what the fix is.

Jerry is definitely a big strong guy. But that doesn't change the fact that he's a sub par OG who lacks the skill set to play in this offense.

That's not his fault. He was drafted to play in tony sporano's power offense.

Perhaps "dog" was to strong a term.

I let's just say he's not very good AND he's poor fit for our offensive scheme.

Because right now we don't have a better option.

Scheme... also our TE's have had some issues blocking... Where last year Fasano, bailed out the oline a lot with his blocking superiority at the position... SHerman said, Atlanta showed us some looks we were not entirely prepared for, he said the miss block by Sims and resulting sack and fumble, was on him as a coach... He said he had SIms in there and Atlanta gave Sims a look he was not prepared for and he didnt know how to defend it so he got caught in no mans lands because of indecision or confusion... Sherman blamed himself for the sack not SIms...

My take on this? Scrap this dumb zone-blocking scheme and get back to the power-blocking (or whatever it's called) that gave the Fins a decent running game before Sherman!

With Sparano/Henning/Daboll, Miami had a somewhat solid offense that needed a better #1 WR than head-case Brandon "Oops I dropped another TD" Marshall, a better QB, one or two better o-linemen, and better playcalling, especially in the red zone.

With Philbin/Sherman they have a better QB, a potential better #1 WR in Wallace, and they're scoring more TDs than FGs in the redzone. BUT, the running game is worse, the playcalling between the 20s is worse, I believe they're reaching the red zone fewer times than the old regime, and the o-line (and blocking RBs and TEs) are missing way too many blocks leading to a slew of sacks in 3 games.

I truly believe that this team would be better off by getting rid of Sherman and his entire offensive philosophy. His playcalling is vanilla... and that's about all he does. Where are the screens? Where are the roll-outs? If the current blockers are not doing a good job of blocking according to Sherman's scheme, then there are only two options: 1 - Get linemen who fit the scheme (which isn't going to happen; even Ireland neglected to REALLY upgrade the o-line), or 2 - Change the scheme to fit the strengths of the players that you have!

Maybe I'm wrong and Sherman is actually a good OC, but I just don't see it. If he was any good, then Tannehill wouldn't be hit as much as he has been so far. The only positive thing that I've seen is the improved red zone offense, but I give the credit for that to the players, not Sherman.

A bit premature...I think Sherman has done a great job play calling since trying to force the run at Cleveland.

How are you going to get rid of his entire offensive philosophy when it's the same as our HC's offense?

I am not thrilled with the line play but it's a little early (or late) to be switching blocking schemes.
